As mentioned elsewhere I will be in the Windy Apple from Wednesday 28th until the following Sunday. I'll be checking the old threads for suggestions and recommendations on stuff to check out but feel free to make additions/updates here anyone.

If anyone wants to meet up that would be WONDERFUL - and in fact I may cry if you don't. My evening plans so far only revolve around the following:

Wed 28: 2 Many DJs & James Murphy at Smart Bar
Thurs 29: John B's 'trancey drum n' bass' at Smart Bar
Fri 30: BASEBALL now looking likely - anyone up for joining us?
Sat 1 May: Evan Dando gig

So I'm thinking the Saturday may be best night for beers and stuff - if not takers for the baseball...holler back as they say

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

u r going to Chicago? It's freezing up there, y'know.

Just kidding - enjoy!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I started a few threads that have some great advice on them - search function est U&K.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 13:12 (twenty-one years ago)

i know i did a search already and it's plenty good

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 13:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Mmmmmm...baseball. So long as it's the Cubs. Not that I'm a huge Cubs fan, but I have moral problems with the designated hitter.

m.e.a. (m.e.a.), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 13:13 (twenty-one years ago)

This one! This one!

(Yet more) tips-Chicago!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 13:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey stevem, I'm interested in both the 2ManyDJs/JamesMurphy thing-o at SmartBar and the baseball game. (I'm assuming you're talking about Cubs vs. Cardinals?)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

The big question re: the game, though, is are there tickets available? Do you have them already?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, wait, that Cubs-Cardinals game is in St. Louis. So you mean White Sox-Blue Jays, then. Yes? In which case getting tickets won't be a problem at all. (You can probably just walk up an hour before the game.)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

i am totally clueless about baseball but am guessing the White Sox are the suck team, oh well i'm sure it will be a fun experience anyway - will ask my friends about tickets but as you say it doesn't sound like a problem

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, the white sox are the suck team

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

But suck teams are cool, right?

...right?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

the sox dont suck, they got second in their division last year, which is quite far from sucking. everyone just likes the cubs. blah

todd swiss (eliti), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Sox Park feels really weird, though.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, as it turns out, I may not be able to go, anyway.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Broheems, Kerry, and others illustrate the sociological differences between Cubs and Sox fans here:

Your Chicago Cubs

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 7 April 2004 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

three weeks pass...
Abbey Pub, this Saturday. It's uh Evan Dando live so if anyone wants to come down for that cool. Or suggest somewhere nearby for a few beers?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 29 April 2004 13:03 (twenty-one years ago)

btw I fucking over-slept (having got only around 5 hours sleep in the previous 48 hours) and missed 2 Many DJs. But will still be at Smart Bar for John B tonight...

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 29 April 2004 13:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Steve, I've been sick all week and probably can't go. Sorry!

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 29 April 2004 13:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm. I missed this. Hi stevem!

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 29 April 2004 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry to hear that, shame. also sorry for being so unorganised and only reviving this thread just now and not sooner.

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 29 April 2004 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

going to White Sox game tonight now as well. It's such a nice day out here that we're gonna wait til the weekend (which is supposed to be colder) to do indoor stuff like the Art Institute etc.)

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 29 April 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I have no particular interest in Dando, but would be willing to get together for beers if we can drag others out.

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 29 April 2004 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

stevem, if you buy tickets on the 100 level (lower deck), make sure you stop by the "Fan Deck" in Center Field; it's really nice. Also stop by the "Beers of the World" stand around Section 157-158, where you can get non-Miller product like Goose Island, Fosters, Heineken, and even my favorite swill, Old Style!

Go Sox!

Baked Bean Teeth (Baked Bean Teeth), Thursday, 29 April 2004 13:51 (twenty-one years ago)

cool NA hope you can make it, and thanks BBT

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 29 April 2004 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

The park looks beautiful now, they made a lot of improvements, don't listen to the hatas. I was there yesterday. The weather is nice, too.

Kerry (dymaxia), Thursday, 29 April 2004 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

i think that you can drag me out since i will be in town

todd swiss (eliti), Thursday, 29 April 2004 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, i am up for beer on saturday... and maybe the dando gig if you are good at convincing.

todd swiss (eliti), Thursday, 29 April 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't remember exactly what's near Schuba's specifically, but there are a hell of a lot of bars and restaurants in that area.

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 29 April 2004 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

nick, the dando show is at the abbey pub, so it could possibly convenient to just get drinks at the pub, unless it is expensive haha

todd swiss (eliti), Thursday, 29 April 2004 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh. There isn't much around Abbey Pub, it's mostly residential, isn't it? So yeah, maybe at the Pub, as long as we don't have to pay to get in if we don't want to see the show.

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 29 April 2004 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

You don't. When you walk in the main door, you can go right to see the show, or you can go left to just drink in the main pub area.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 29 April 2004 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, there really isnt much around the abbey, so i do think it is the best place to hold this event.

todd swiss (eliti), Thursday, 29 April 2004 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

ok. so, what is the deal?

what time will we meet?
where? (i assume the abbey)
is this still on?

email me! haha

todd swiss (eliti), Saturday, 1 May 2004 05:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Abbey pub, show starts at 10 so am gonna try and get there for 9.30 at the latest (was thinking of going to football match but can skip this to meet you guys earlier) but will aim for 8.30 now - sorry about the vagueness. hopefully we will recognise each other from the wealth of photos on the board. i don't have a phone with me sadly. really hope you guys can make it (jaymc are you still ill??)

Schuba's is a nice bar. we were in the oddly named Bottom Lounge last night.

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 1 May 2004 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Um, so yeah, we're not going to go to the show itself, but we'll come and drink some cokes or something (I'm kinda hungover so probably won't be up for literal pints). I think Todd has our phone numbers from last time. So are we aiming for 8:30 or earlier? We will be the couple wherein the woman (Sarah) is kinda tall, like 5'11" and has brown, curlyish hair and the dude (Nick) is a little shorter and is wearing a black shirt with red and white parts around the collar and pockets and also has brown hair but his is kind of greasy. Keep in touch fools. Oh yeah, I sent a link to this thread to Kenan, since I didn't know if he had seen it.

NA (Nick A.), Saturday, 1 May 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks Nick, i'll try and get there for 8 now :)

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 1 May 2004 15:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i will be wearing a white button up shirt and some jeans. i am like 6'2 and i have a mess of hair on my head. i will try to show up around 8 pm.

hope to see everyone there!

todd swiss (eliti), Saturday, 1 May 2004 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm afraid I still won't make it. A combination of being ill and having other plans I forgot about.

jaymc (jaymc), Saturday, 1 May 2004 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Are they indie plans? Are you ill with indie disease?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 1 May 2004 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

if anyone in chicago has the indie disease, its me.

todd swiss (eliti), Saturday, 1 May 2004 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I know, but I haven't met you yet, Todd. Thus I cannot mock you.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 1 May 2004 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

hahaha

todd swiss (eliti), Saturday, 1 May 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

We'll be there at 8.

NA (Nick A.), Saturday, 1 May 2004 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

IT WAS AWESOME!!! WOOOOOH!

NA (Nick A.), Sunday, 2 May 2004 12:30 (twenty-one years ago)

YES!

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 2 May 2004 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

HOLY CHRIST, THIS WAS AMAZING.
MY LIFE HAS CHANGED!

todd swiss (eliti), Sunday, 2 May 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

ha ha, it sounds like we are all being sarcastic, and perhaps some of us are but hey -I- enjoyed meeting you guys and I'm sad it was so brief
