fritz, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

This one about Moose in the artic, I dont know the title but they showed it at the local film society event and it actually held everones attention for almost two hours. Though it feels kinda wierd to be mentioning Moose with a thread on Holy Grail so near by.

Mr Noodles, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

oh oh and Project Grizzly!

and Vernon, Florida!

fritz, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That John Huston documentary about shell-shocked soldiers coming back from WW2.

Michael Bourke, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

American Movie! Also, was that film about people living in subway tunnels any good?

james, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I really liked Fast Cheap and Out of Control - v. ambitious if not relevant to much of anything. Doc that Errol Morris keeps making but never by this name: Wisconsin Death Trip.

Tracer Hand, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

dark days! i have the dark days 7". never saw the movie though.

ethan, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

1. The Cruise 2. Crumb

Dan, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

crumb, yes! that and thin blue line are the best documentaries ever. hey, is sick any good, the sadomasochist one? i've wanted to rent it for years but i'm always afraid it will give me nightmares. i want to rent the nambla documentary too but people will think i'm a pedophile.

ethan, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"I am the / Midnight Nambla!" Surely "Turbonegro: The Movie" is tops.

Kris, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sherman's March is another amazing doc.

dan, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What was the Buñuel film about the dirt-poor Spaniards? Las Hurdes, I think? Classic surrealist documentary.

Harlan County, USA (about an extremely violent coal miner's strike in West Virginia during the Seventies) is also a must-see.

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

HEAVY METAL PARKING LOT! This truly is the best fucking documentary EVER MADE!

chaki, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Heavy Metal Parking Lot is pretty awesome. Thanks for reminding us!

Fans of same should also check out "Metallica Drummer"!

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Friday, 26 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

if you have 15 minutes to spare and have a fast connection you can watch this 1986 classic doc , filmed in a parking lot before a Judas Priest concert in south carolina, here

celluiod closet
and that judas priest concert video was scary as fuck

anthonyeaston, Saturday, 27 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Errol Morris fans should check out Gates of Heaven, which is (I think) his first feature, and pretty much my favorite movie of all time, documentary or otherwise. About pet cemetaries and the California dream and how we construct reality out of language, not necessarily in that order. High tragicomedy, transcendent weirdness.

E. Kraft, Saturday, 27 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"Madonna's a dick!" Anyone ever seen Neil Diamond Parking Lot? It's nowhere near as good, how could it be? What other parking lot documentaries would you like to see? Goth parking lot? Nu Metal Parking Lot? IDM Parking Lot?

I love The Decline #2: The Metal Years. The first one's a bit overrated. I also liked the Reno Dakota film American Fabulous. And the Nick Broomfield documentary about Heidi Fleiss says so much about the city I live in. And three cheers for the IMAX movie Beavers.

Arthur, Saturday, 27 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

the strokes parking lot is currently taking place a block from my apartment.

ethan, Saturday, 27 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The strokes suck

Mike Hanle y, Saturday, 27 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

How about Hanle y Parking Lot?

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Saturday, 27 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i forgot about the beavers one. it was hellacool !

anthonyeaston, Saturday, 27 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

chaki, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"Jack and coke- what else?" Except coke is pronounced "cake".

I forgot Theremin: An Electronic Odyssey.

Arthur, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You are all wrong because the best documentary film is When We Were Kings.

JM, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Watched a bunch of Les Blank films recently. What a treasure!

1968 - The Blues Accordin' to Lightnin' Hopkins
1968 - God Respects Us When We Work, But Loves Us When We Dance
1974 - A Poem Is a Naked Person
1978 - Always for Pleasure
1980 - Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe
1980 - Garlic Is as Good as Ten Mothers
1984 - In Heaven There Is No Beer?
1985 - Cigarette Blues
1987 - Gap-Toothed Women

nicky lo-fi, Tuesday, 2 April 2019 01:38 (seven years ago)

haven't seen any of those, I like the titles

my favorite documentary is The Act of Killing

Dan S, Tuesday, 2 April 2019 02:17 (seven years ago)

or maybe on second thought The Times of Harvey Milk

Dan S, Tuesday, 2 April 2019 02:30 (seven years ago)

I love the Milk film too, very moving.

I think my favorite doc is "Crumb"

Most of the Blank films serve to preserve a time and place instead of telling a specfic story.

nicky lo-fi, Tuesday, 2 April 2019 02:34 (seven years ago)

also really loved Paris Is Burning

Dan S, Tuesday, 2 April 2019 03:41 (seven years ago)

two years pass...

"This home movie found at a garage sale in Western Michigan documents a Memorial Day weekend trip that quickly devolves into Lord of the Flies-like debauchery. Burn the couch, everybody!"

Yeah the Sup Doc crew did an episode on this a few years back for Sketchfest -- live taping, I was there! Chaki was part of it!
