I'm a loser and quite proud of it. Almost everyone is, and it makes me feel part of humanity. The older I get, the more fun it seems to be a loser, and the less I envy winners like Tony Blair, the jockey Tony McCoy - who always seems miserable, David Beckham (with his constant worry about his children's safety), J.K. Rowling, Roy Keane - I wouldn't want it, frankly (to make a virtue of necessity).

Yes - take pride in what you can't do.

I always liked the Pet Shop Boy's attitude of being proud of "not be able to hack it live". As if it matters .... so they do somehting more interesting instead.

In the same way, I'm proud that I completely flunked the outward bound element of my fast-stream development programme. I saw a whole load of people losing their tempers in a range of competitive activities whilst running round a field.
