In the last few days, when I try to logon to ILX via my office computer, I'm presented with this screen:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access / on this server.

Apache/1.3.26 Server at ilxor.com Port 80

What does this mean? What has changed?

They've finally caught you!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 8 April 2004 20:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, sounds like you've been rumbled.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 8 April 2004 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

firewall!

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Thursday, 8 April 2004 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Seriously, though, I haven't seen that message at all, just occasionally the poxy fule thing. Does your employer typically restrict access? (though the Apache @ ilxor.com thing seems weird, makes it look like ilx that's doing it)

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 8 April 2004 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

did we finally work out how to ban people, properly, from specific locations?

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 8 April 2004 20:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Well I've been banned from the girls' changing rooms.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 8 April 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess I mean unjustified banning.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 8 April 2004 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, we have always had the ability (the people with access to the back end, anyhow) to ban specific IP addresses or ranges, but it's been done so sparingly because banning many of the ...troublesome posters would also result in too much collateral damage with other valued posters.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 8 April 2004 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

So is this more like friendly fire?

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 8 April 2004 20:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't see why this would be, but I'll look into this anyhow.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 8 April 2004 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Or maybe I should just invoke Andrew and Noodles....what up?

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 8 April 2004 21:02 (twenty-one years ago)

andrew still hasn't told me what was up. maybe I should e-mail him.

invoke, please.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 8 April 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

How odd. Sounds like firewall to us. That, or your bosses have finally caught on that you've been having your own cyberparty during work hours.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Thursday, 8 April 2004 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think it's my office intervening (not did my pals in the tech department when I asked them about it). I have no trouble accessing other equally non-work-related sites. And like Sean says above, the Apache tag seems to suggest it's on ILX's end).

Ask the webmaster.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 9 April 2004 13:00 (twenty-one years ago)

This should be fixed up now, Alex. Ping back if there's still a problem.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Friday, 9 April 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Shout outs to Andrew, etc.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Friday, 9 April 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks, Sean & Andrew....I'm back at home now, but I'll check it out at the office this evening. Thanks in advance. The silent nation of fire-honoring Alexinnyc disciples doubtlessly thank you also.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 9 April 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

It's working again! Thanks, guys!!!!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 9 April 2004 23:24 (twenty-one years ago)

How odd! What caused that then? Work - ILX = Suckus Maximus.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Saturday, 10 April 2004 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

That's the true, Johnney!
