What type of jeans look good on a guy and actually fit well enough to show off a trim figure?

Billy, Friday, 9 April 2004 04:29 (twenty-one years ago)

it's not the jeans, it's the chaps.

hstencil, Friday, 9 April 2004 04:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Stop lying, Billy, you're a fat slob.

Skottie, Friday, 9 April 2004 04:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Andre Agassi's new look may work for you:

hstencil, Friday, 9 April 2004 04:33 (twenty-one years ago)

that really chaps my ass

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Friday, 9 April 2004 04:35 (twenty-one years ago)

the following comes up when you google "ass chaps:"

You don't wanna know what else "comes up."

hstencil, Friday, 9 April 2004 04:37 (twenty-one years ago)

ok.....u got me skottie....i'm inconceivable gross

actually a serious question sort of.....going on a shopping frenzy

Billy, Friday, 9 April 2004 04:37 (twenty-one years ago)

APC!@#$%^&

A.P.C.

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 9 April 2004 04:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Levis 501s, Billy. If you're really a slim young thang. They're the universal paradigm.

Skottie, Friday, 9 April 2004 04:42 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks skottie

ive worn ralph lauren and guess for the last couple of years and they always end up feeling like either a tablecloth or paper towelling

it's pretty primitive down here (sydney, aust)

Billy, Friday, 9 April 2004 04:47 (twenty-one years ago)

APC yes! Also Diesel, Mavi, italian ones as long as they're not the freaky tapered leg kind, even Abercrombie & Fitch, etc. Try to find ones with a high thread count (I think that's what it is, I don't know jack about cloth), 'cause they hang so much better and they're nice and soft.

It's possible to find jeans that show off your "trim figure" without making your ankles look stupid, I'm wearing some right now.
I even read a posting from someone on here recently that suggested a certain type of women's jeans for slim guys, but it's risky (ever see that episode of Will & Grace where all the chicks keep asking Will where he got his jeans?).

Dan I. (Dan I.), Friday, 9 April 2004 04:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i wear gap jeans. i like em, but they are made in sweatshops.

todd swiss (eliti), Friday, 9 April 2004 05:09 (twenty-one years ago)

H&M Divided!

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 9 April 2004 09:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Why is it "risky" for chicks to like your jeans? Billy the answer to your question is "women's jeans!" Any and all!!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 9 April 2004 10:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Uh, because if women are asking you where you got your jeans it means that everyone can tell you're wearing women's jeans.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Friday, 9 April 2004 11:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean you might be comfortable with that but it's a big step for some people.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Friday, 9 April 2004 11:09 (twenty-one years ago)

(shit that sounded way more confrontational than I intended it)

Dan I. (Dan I.), Friday, 9 April 2004 11:09 (twenty-one years ago)

give in to levis TWIST jeans.

I picked up a pair last year, so comfortable and nice, also my mum complains about them! "They're not lined up properly. And how are you meant to fold them????"

It's not natural I tell you!

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 9 April 2004 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Are those the ones with only one pocket in the back? I have a pair of those but I'm afraid to wear em cause I get paranoid they make my ass look funny. heh.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Friday, 9 April 2004 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

but hey knowing now that someone else in this world respects them (I always liked them too), I think I'll start wearing my pair again.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Friday, 9 April 2004 12:14 (twenty-one years ago)

They are cool I think, though many's the time I searched in vain for the second pocket.

Mine have little black lines at the shin and on the pocket, they seem to look nicer each time they get washed.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 9 April 2004 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I only wear jeans designed for asian schoolgirls, unless I need something suitably festooned with knee-pockets &c. Random useless straps & purple stitching = urgent & key.

etc, Friday, 9 April 2004 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

RESPEC

Dan I. (Dan I.), Friday, 9 April 2004 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I have had success with Calvin Klein and Caterpillar.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 9 April 2004 13:04 (twenty-one years ago)

What type of jeans look good on a guy and actually fit well enough to show off a big ass?

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 9 April 2004 13:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Re: sweatshops

I'm afraid you'll find that most if not all off the rack clothing is produced in sweatshops. Even San Francisco-based Levi Strauss moved mfg off shore a few years ago, I believe (may be wrong). Singling out the Gap is, while not incorrect, missing the point in a lot of ways. Of course because they're so big, it's a useful symbol.

Skottie, Friday, 9 April 2004 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

hi skottie, levi's has been making clothes outside of the US for about 30 years now. levi's is a global company with manufacturing operations on 6 of 7 continents. although they are HQ'd in san francisco, but it would be expensive to make clothes only in one country and then ship them all over the world.

i find it interesting that you assume that all factories outside of the US are sweatshops, you'd be surprised how many sweatshops are in the US.

poster x, Friday, 9 April 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

didn't Levi's close its last remaining US factory in San Antonio?

hstencil, Friday, 9 April 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

shipping costs don't really matter. that's why pretty much everything you buy in the us comes from places strewn about the globe. the only important thing is finding a place where you can hire thousands of people to work for little money. if they found martians who would work for one cent a day, levi's or the gap would pay the money to start their own space program and fly jeans across the solar system.

Magic City (ano ano), Friday, 9 April 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

also I think Levi's 501 circa 1976-1983 are the best men's jeans. The years are a rough estimate, of course.

Magic City (ano ano), Friday, 9 April 2004 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

space jeans!

Kim (Kim), Friday, 9 April 2004 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

oh no an illegal jean maufacturing ring being run out of my carhole.

Magic City (ano ano), Friday, 9 April 2004 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

they closed 2 factories in san antonio (800 employees) in january but have about 20 manufacturing facilities remaining in north america. there was another thread on this. there is some very small production being handled in the US but it is for premium product only (mostly for export).

but yes, most people can't afford or choose not to support clothes made in the USA. levi's was the last major manufacturer of clothing to move their manufacturing 100% overseas. it was an extremely tough decision for the owner to make.

i prefer 1944-1947 501XX. you can find some great deadstock at the rosebowl swapmeet in pasadena, california every once in a while.

poster x, Friday, 9 April 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Why doesn't someone answer Jordan's question?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 9 April 2004 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

but have about 20 manufacturing facilities remaining in north america...

North America /= the United States. How many of these are in Mexico?

hstencil, Friday, 9 April 2004 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

North America /= the United States. How many of these are in Mexico?

thanks for the geography lesson hstencil. about 80%.

do you only buy american made clothes?

poster x, Friday, 9 April 2004 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

no I don't. It was just a question, poster x, er I mean [xxxxxxx].

hstencil, Friday, 9 April 2004 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

haha! oh brother.

poster x, Friday, 9 April 2004 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry!

hstencil, Friday, 9 April 2004 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it's unanswerable, @d@m.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 9 April 2004 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i really dont know which jeans fit a big ass because my ass is non-existant

todd swiss (eliti), Friday, 9 April 2004 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I am thinking of buying a new pair of jeans soon and am dreading it..there are just too many fucking styles to choose from. I've been wearing various kinds of boot cut for the last eight years (last pair was Gap..before that Levis) but I think it's time for a change but I'm not quite sure to what. I see Lee has not long ago opened a superstore in Carnaby Street (London) and I thought I might give them a try as I've never bought them before (although I do have a 'Storm Rider' jacket that I no longer wear). Anyone have any opinion on Lee's quality?

David (David), Friday, 9 April 2004 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

i always looked at lee as being the dorkier version of levis, but thats just me

todd swiss (eliti), Friday, 9 April 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Leee's not dorky!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 9 April 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

They seem to be having a bit of an image push recently. As I say a fancy superstore just opened. The Storm Rider is a classic of course.
I believe the Rider is their '501', not sure about the general quality of finish or cut though.

David (David), Friday, 9 April 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to have a big Lee jeans belt buckle when I was little in the '70s. Kinda retarded now that I think about it--a kid named Lee walking around with a big Lee belt buckle. I have no idea what kind of jeans it was holding up. Cheap, no doubt.

Jonathan Richman swears by Wrangler (see his song "My Jeans"). I swear by Levis, most recently 505s, but I'm due for a coupla new pairs and am also flumoxed by what to buy next. I hate pretty much all of these nuevo "finishes," but can hardly face breaking in more of the stiff, dark stuff.

Lee G (Lee G), Friday, 9 April 2004 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i think i mentioned this on another thread, but evisu women's jeans are good for skinny guys. my friend has a couple of pairs, and i wouldn't have noticed if he hadn't confided in me. the drawback is probably price - he got a big discount from our friend's store, but i think otherwise they're stupidly expensive.
phil is totally otm about apc.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 9 April 2004 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Second try... somehow I put this in the Mary Janes thread.

Built by Wendy is doing a line for Wrangler. Good looking jeans, but I hope they're not all boot cut.

Dickerson Pike (Dickerson Pike), Saturday, 10 April 2004 00:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Levi's Engineered jeans make me look passable. (image)

Andrew (enneff), Saturday, 10 April 2004 00:53 (twenty-one years ago)

What Jordan said. Big assed men need jeans too!

Ricardo (RickyT), Saturday, 10 April 2004 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

uhm
Levi's suck.

Best guy jean brands around -

Diesel, Seven, Paper Denim Cloth ... those are all fairly easy to find and work well for most builds. Other brands specialize in a certain look like JustUs and such.

Dillon, Wednesday, 14 April 2004 02:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never seen a pair of Seven jeans without some sort of goofy wash or wear or, like, fucking patches (!) or something sewed onto them.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 03:06 (twenty-one years ago)

ha but now of course I look on ebay and see tons of decent non-weird ones.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 03:07 (twenty-one years ago)

5-0-fuckin 1!!!!

Orbit (Orbit), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 03:46 (twenty-one years ago)

BLUE CULT make the best men's jeans I've ever seen. Not that easy to find, but my hubby got his at Barney's. Really flattering, slim fit that looks young but quality.

princess threads, Wednesday, 14 April 2004 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

The best modern jeans I've seen/worn are by DENIME (Japan). They will cost you a fortune ($500-$1000) but they have the best quality, design, handiwork, and ridiculous handmade attention to detail I've ever seen.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't get the point of those worn look jeans or those new levi ones that those annoying justin timberlake-esque people keep advertising. The best jeans I got recently were 20 quid from uni-qlo.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I am currently wearing navy levis cord jeans, the cords are diagonal lined, they're very comfy and pretty cool.

I used to really hate levis but I think it's just a question of finding the right pair.

I like Carrhart jeans except they're not the comfiest really, very starchy and rigid.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

sevens are made in america. I have (I think) the New York finish, which is dark denim not faded or treated at all except for creases down the front and back which are just a bit faded/worn. I was wearing them last night when I was told to eat a fucking meal, bitch, so I guess they make you look skinny.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I have to take my big ass jean shopping very soon. I usually go to Express for jeans, but the closest one is in Milwaukee (although I do have to fly out of there next week!).

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

the 20 quid uni-qlo jeans got the widest size range i seen. if this makes sense, caus usually my jeans trail whenever i take my shoes off.

i like the iceberg jeans i bought. i second wrangler and evisu.

luigi, Wednesday, 14 April 2004 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

H&M Divided seconded - a snip at £20 and really nicely (boot)cut.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

IF u can find AK denim, they make some absolutely AWESOME jeans. Try crappy stores like HIZZ and stuff, I know I know, "crappy store he says" but trust me, these jeans are awesome. Buy 1 size bigger than usuall and let the bottom frey naturally.
Thats A.K DENIM. Dynamite

TOM VALE, Wednesday, 21 April 2004 05:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Im in need of some new jeans at the moment. I currently wear the levis twisted enginereed jeans with two pockets at the back. The trouble with these is my ass looks like its not there and they are a bitch to iron and fold! Cuz im skinny i have to wear loose fit jeans but the shops nowadays are mostly selling regular bootcut jeans that have a very low rise which i dont like. I might just get some new levis 501 jeans.

Beast, Friday, 23 April 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I really, really like David Bitton's line (Buffalo), although they discontinued my favorite style/color.

minolta (minolta), Friday, 23 April 2004 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

501s period. This is non-controversial.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Friday, 23 April 2004 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I love how Tom Vale's post reads like a radio script!

WHY IS WRANGLER GETTING NO RESPECT.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 23 April 2004 17:52 (twenty-one years ago)

levi's = no imagination.

vahid (vahid), Friday, 23 April 2004 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
Gap bootcut 36"x36"-ers are a pretty superb fit (comfortable, not ridiculous-looking), but they only seem to exist in overdyed heavy heavy black or weird pinstripe pale-blue-that-goes-grey effect or 'desert wash', which is the one that I just barely favour but which have that faded thighsmear thing (and the horizontal lines across the crotch) and which change colour quickly to pretty dodgy frosty navy after one wash.

SO: who else in the UK does men's jeans in a 36" leg? I thought maybe Uniqlo (the non-london stores all seem to no longer exist, but I would make a pilgrimage for this). Urban Outfitters? (I have no idea what their reputation is). Levi's, sort of, I'm looking into this, but ideally would not be paying in the region of £70 a pair.

(I do not have a 36" waist but lo-slung woo yeah/need all the length I can get/like a little room around my arse, if not excessive amounts)

Alex in Sheffield (Alex in Doncaster), Friday, 19 August 2005 10:35 (twenty years ago)

Why all the love for 501s? Surely the rankest jeans ever.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Friday, 19 August 2005 11:17 (twenty years ago)

the old levis twists were the greatest jeans ever.

having said that I got a pair of Maharishi jeans recently and they are fucking amazing, so comfy and so many nice little extra bits of stitching and stuff, like camoflage turn ups.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 19 August 2005 11:22 (twenty years ago)

My favorite jeans.

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Friday, 19 August 2005 15:48 (twenty years ago)

four years pass...

i feel like this is hard time to find men's jeans

like bootcut has kinda jumped the shark, i have a couple pairs but i start to feel like i'm a waitress at a suburban chili's

but i'm too old to really rock Tight Ass Jeans
