This is seriously the best thing I've seen on the internet:

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Sunday, 11 April 2004 12:19 (twenty-one years ago)

It actually works! I just asked, um... 'him' to "do the worm", and he did it! Please somebody tell me there is some fancy-pants code that just searches terms and calls up video clips. SURELY HE CAN'T BE DOING WHATEVER I SAY.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Sunday, 11 April 2004 12:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Sweet merciful crap I just realized this is brought to you by the good people at burger k1ng. Marketing people really are losing their edge (or gaining it?).

PS - Can any of youse Americans confirm if this is part of some big BK promo campaign or something? I'm temped to be much more cruel to the chicken now...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Sunday, 11 April 2004 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

HOLY FUCK i just asked it to moonwalk, flash a gang sign, rave, EVERYTHING. IT's doing EVERYTHING

LC, Sunday, 11 April 2004 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

OMG say "KARATE"

LC, Sunday, 11 April 2004 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

ALright fuck this, this is the last thing I need at 6:35am, I'm going to bed. I really hope it's a really extensive video database too, because I just say the guy sleeping and he got up when I re-entered text.

LC, Sunday, 11 April 2004 12:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I asked him to build a fort out of the cushions and he did it.
I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE WORLD ANYMORE.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Sunday, 11 April 2004 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to eat at Burger King a LOT more. Seriously.

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 11 April 2004 12:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Telling it to "get drunk" was a bit scary

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 11 April 2004 13:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Please somebody tell me there is some fancy-pants code that just searches terms and calls up video clips.

Yeah, it is. If you reload it a few times, you see a few of the same clips repeated. Plus, I just asked the chicken to throw the books (the ones in the bookcase) across the room and he just picked one up, thumbed through it a little, then put it back.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Sunday, 11 April 2004 13:06 (twenty-one years ago)

he won't turn the light off.

MikeB, Sunday, 11 April 2004 13:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I also asked him to "leave a cushion on the floor," and he took two cushions, made a "chicken sandwhich," then put the cushions back.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Sunday, 11 April 2004 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

In other words, whatever you ask the chicken to do, he always leaves the room in the same state as before, thus allowing a smooth segue into any other small filmed segment.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Sunday, 11 April 2004 13:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh christ!

I types simulate anal sex!!!

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 11 April 2004 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry that's so childish I know but a message came up saying "chicken may be performing actions unsuitable for most audiences"

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 11 April 2004 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

this is too much for my eggshell mind this morning

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 11 April 2004 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

damn it, he wouldn't smash the tv. i dont believe in anything anymore.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 11 April 2004 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, this is stealth marketing by BK, pretty genius innit?

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 11 April 2004 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

he does too turn off the light mikeb!! (for ronan: http://boingboing.net/2004/04/08/subservient_chickens.html)

m., Sunday, 11 April 2004 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

he does a mean tai-chi.

m., Sunday, 11 April 2004 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I asked him to do "the chicken dance". It's a cool dance but I don't think it's THE chicken dance.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Sunday, 11 April 2004 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

he won't breakdance but he will "riverdance"

m.e.a. (m.e.a.), Sunday, 11 April 2004 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

it doesn't want to make me eat at Burger King more, so they're all fired

impressive gimmick nonetheless

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 11 April 2004 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I was going to say we should be calling this chicken a "she" but when I asked it to lay an egg, it squatted but nothing came out. Also when I asked it to do a somersault it rushed the camera and gave us a closeup of its groin...and it's a bit hard to tell.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Sunday, 11 April 2004 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I just asked him to perform "The House of Jealous Lovers" and he just bowed towards the TV a couple times. Obviously this is not a real chicken we're dealing with here.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Sunday, 11 April 2004 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

If you asked me to perform House of Jealous Lovers, the actiosn I'd make would probably look a lot like a chicken bowing towards a TV a couple of times.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Sunday, 11 April 2004 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

He has a weird way of humping the couch.

Carey (Carey), Sunday, 11 April 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

If you asked me to perform House of Jealous Lovers, the actiosn I'd make would probably look a lot like a chicken bowing towards a TV a couple of times.

Hmm. Are you delicious in nugget form, too?

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Sunday, 11 April 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Any one ask it to fly?

Aja (aja), Sunday, 11 April 2004 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

It dies well.

m.e.a. (m.e.a.), Sunday, 11 April 2004 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

It looks like it's having a heart attack when it dies!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Sunday, 11 April 2004 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

His flying isn't very impressive. But then again, chickens can't fly.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Sunday, 11 April 2004 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

What if you ask it to play an instrument?

Aja (aja), Sunday, 11 April 2004 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

It looked like it was playing a trombone when I asked it to "play dead".

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Sunday, 11 April 2004 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I really wanted to believe that this wasn't a trick, but I guess like so much in life, it was too good to be true. It nearly had me when he did a pretty good 'worm' and followed my command to 'watch TV' though.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Sunday, 11 April 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Aja, ask him to 'do air guitar'

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Sunday, 11 April 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Haw! Look at the chicken! It thinks it's Angus Young!

m.e.a. (m.e.a.), Sunday, 11 April 2004 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Whoa. Ask it to "rock out." It's creepy.

m.e.a. (m.e.a.), Sunday, 11 April 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

so is asking it to kiss the camera!

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 11 April 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.xeni.net/images/bb/clipData.html

alan banana (alan_banana), Sunday, 11 April 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I like what happens when you click on any of those video files, though...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Sunday, 11 April 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Aja, ask him to 'do air guitar'

I would but my mom won't let me download what ever it is that is needed on this computer to veiw the chicken. :,(,,,,

Aja (aja), Sunday, 11 April 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

"Preen" is ok, but "lay egg" looks the same as constipated chicken. and no egg.

Hunter (Hunter), Sunday, 11 April 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

How about butcher??

Aja (aja), Sunday, 11 April 2004 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey how about "Whip it"?

It's on the radio now so, why don't you try it?

Aja (aja), Sunday, 11 April 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I just asked it to piss on the sofa. And it did.

C J (C J), Sunday, 11 April 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I asked it to:

stand still

operate heavy machinery (this was terrifying!!!)

recite plato

display wrath

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 11 April 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I like what happens when you click on any of those video files, though...

They changed it! A few days ago they showed all of the clips. Anyway you can just type the commands into the main prompt and still see everything.

alan r. banana (alanbanana), Sunday, 11 April 2004 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think I'm more inclined to eat at Burger King though.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 11 April 2004 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

if you tell him, "Dude, that's awesome!", he bows to the camera.

he won't do the Robot, tho. just some generic dance.

Kingfish Balzac (Kingfish), Sunday, 11 April 2004 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

try typing 'vomit' instead of 'barf' .... that works!

C J (C J), Monday, 12 April 2004 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Jumping jacks are nice.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 12 April 2004 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

he wouldn't go medieval or re-arrange the furniture

jel -- (jel), Monday, 12 April 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

he did the monkey¡

dyson (dyson), Monday, 12 April 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

he did the finger waving thing when I asked him to touch the ceiling, and his impersonation of axl rose was rubbish. I give up.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 12 April 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I asked him to head-butt the wall, and obligingly he did so.

C J (C J), Monday, 12 April 2004 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Ummm, if you say "Kiss me you fool!", he makes out with a pillow.

You have no idea how similar to my adolescent dating experience that is.

C J (C J), Monday, 12 April 2004 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I told him to "be the ball" and he rolled. I screamed.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 12 April 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I tried that twice. The first time he bowled (like cricket) the camera, the next he took a rugby free kick at it. This is possibly the best thing on the internet ever.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 12 April 2004 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

BE A MATADOR

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 12 April 2004 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

It doesn't always do the same thing when you ask it to do something though, which is a bit baffling.

I typed in "John Travolta Night Fever" and the first time it did a brilliant Night Fever dance. The second time I asked it, it just wandered around aimlessly. How odd.

C J (C J), Monday, 12 April 2004 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

KICK IT OLD SCHOOL!

He kicked it old school.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 12 April 2004 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

BE JESUS

Prude (Prude), Monday, 12 April 2004 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

The chicken is male. He pees standing up.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 12 April 2004 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

SHAKE IT LIKE A POLAROID PICTURE

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 12 April 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

this chicken has ideas above its station.

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 12 April 2004 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

"run away" causes problems.

"die" it does, but not permanently

"clean room" is my fave.

Nik (Nik), Monday, 12 April 2004 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

since when is "lick balls" a baseball term?

Nik (Nik), Monday, 12 April 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Poke your eye out is violent and disturbing

zaxxon25 (zaxxon25), Monday, 12 April 2004 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

pick your nose applies, even though he only has a beak. weird.

Jay Kid (Jay K), Monday, 12 April 2004 20:41 (twenty-one years ago)

OMG it does walk like an egyptian!

Jay Kid (Jay K), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 09:33 (twenty-one years ago)

YMCA!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 09:38 (twenty-one years ago)

It knows what "choke the chicken" means.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 09:46 (twenty-one years ago)

It doesn't know how to scissor kick though.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 09:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Or cancan. And when you tell it to pick up that thing on the floor it lies on its side and does leg lifts.

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 10:05 (twenty-one years ago)

it does do a can-can! (use the hyphen).

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

But not the Macarena.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 10:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Anda tu cuerpa, querida pollito?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Try 'Seduce Me'

Joe Kay (feethurt), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 11:39 (twenty-one years ago)

That was nice. If you say "You're so money!" he shakes his ass right by the lens. Wow.

I'm disappointed by his attempt to "do the hokey-pokey". He just runs in a circle. Where's the leg-shaking?

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 12:05 (twenty-one years ago)

two commands to try

"Taco Bell" (gets a girl on camera which he dances with)
"Mosh" (self explanitory)
"eat at mcdonalds" (mimics vommiting)

rsm99833, Thursday, 15 April 2004 00:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Does it have anyone to mosh with?

Aja (aja), Thursday, 15 April 2004 01:01 (twenty-one years ago)

"go ape crazy" is a good one.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 15 April 2004 01:08 (twenty-one years ago)

i think sometimes the commands are deliberately disobeyed/randomized to keep up the appearance of, er, authenticity? 'make a chicken sandwhich' didn't work at all for my friend, 'do the hokey pokey' *did* get me the hokey pokey etc

m., Thursday, 15 April 2004 08:11 (twenty-one years ago)

the Stanmore signal (nordicskilla), Friday, 17 June 2005 20:38 (twenty years ago)

Its response to "make porn" has totally scarred me for life.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 17 June 2005 20:43 (twenty years ago)

Er, all it did was strut around and look silly.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 17 June 2005 20:47 (twenty years ago)

Also it appears that it'll give you a thumbs-up for any command that has "Burger King" in it -- including, say, "Burger King sucks," "Burger King sucks ass," "Burger King is poison," or "I hate Burger King."

"BK tastes like dollar-store vomit" makes it fake-vomit, which seems interpretable as agreement.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 17 June 2005 20:47 (twenty years ago)

This one is still my favorite.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Friday, 17 June 2005 20:59 (twenty years ago)
