Panhandling - C or D?

I did it a lot in high school while living at a squat for awhile, and recently played on the street between gigs on tour, and always seem to make a bit of cash. The dudes on the subways here in NYC must clean up! Think about it - an average of $2 a train car (and that's conservative), twenty train cars an hour - $40/hr tax free!! Why don't more folks do it? Is it the supposed 'shame' involved?

busking and panhandling are two different things. which one are you asking about?

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Monday, 12 April 2004 00:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Both, I suppose. You know, sponging off society. That kinda thing.

samantha's right ... by busking, you are (arguably) providing a service. just sticking yer hand out and saying "gimme some change," what are you doing for anyone else?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 12 April 2004 00:17 (twenty-one years ago)

and oh yeah ... TOTAL AND COMPLETE DUD for anyone of able body and sound mind, who could BE WORKING INSTEAD.

B-b.but...the ECONOMY!!'

Doesn't being drunk all the time count as being disabled?

If so, get me a wheelchair and a bucket of decoy change baby

Classic, regardless of health issues or services rendered or anything else.

and you wonder why no political candidate that you support can break the mendoza line?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 12 April 2004 00:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't wonder at all.

But what could possibly be dud about it? You're not harming anyone, no one is forced to give you money. 'Not harming anyone' is a lot more than we can say for many professions.

dallas and houston aren't THAT far from you, are they? it's obvious that you've NEVER had an obviously mentally disturbed street person spit on you, threaten yer life, or otherwise act menacingly b/c you won't give 'em a cigarette or a quarter.

'Not harming anyone' is a lot more than we can say for many professions.

why not drop out of school right now, go move into a cave, and learn to like eating worms and leaves?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 12 April 2004 00:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I just had some spinach, does that count?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 12 April 2004 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

roger adultery (roger adultery), Monday, 12 April 2004 00:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Attacking you for money != "panhandling"

why not drop out of school right now, go move into a cave, and learn to like eating worms and leaves?

"And if you don't like George Bush/the war/the GOP-in-power why don't you just get the hell you, commie?!"

I thought this line of thinking was beneath you.
