I am doing a private survey and would like honest answers please. I have a good reason for this survey, and I will reveal it to all of you soon. Hugs, The nutty lady Gale

Gale Deslongchamps, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

BA and MA in English lit. So educated, but whether I was well educated is another matter. ;-)

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

BA Business Administration. MA Mass Communications. Unemployed.

james, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

University dropout. Psychology so I can help you halfway, Gale. ;-) Now I take university courses for fun (Japanese I and Art History).

nathalie, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have a BA in Disco Studies, as Prof. Easton pointed out to me the other night. Took me 12 years to get it, sigh.

It's actually Dramatic Literature, Theatre History & Cinema. I don't remember much of it, to be honest.

Arthur, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

BA and MSci in Physics and an MSc in Computation. The BA is officially an MA now, but it feels dud referring to it as such.

RickyT, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm a high school drop out.

Ally, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i'm an unemployed high school drop-out.

ethan, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i'm a beauty school drop out.

jess, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

B.S. in Information and Computer Science at University of California, Irvine... (read either as Bachelor's Degree or Bull Shit.. heh heh)

Brian MacDonald, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I haven't finished high school, and the education I'm getting isn't worth much.

Maria, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I knew it Jess........

Ronan, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't like this question much.

But anyway, I'm graduated from school and I am doing a BA in Journalism. Will that do?

Ronan, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

BA Political Science and English. Juris Doctorate.

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

working to a M.Ah and have a B.Ah. As well working ona B.A. in English

anthonyeaston, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

BA philosophy, BS math, MS math that I haven't finished the paper for so technically I don't have it yet, shit, and working toward my Ph.D. (and probably MA along the way) philosophy. This is only making me feel poorly educated, though.

Josh, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i feel highly UNeducated at this point (mostly because i am), being an ART school drop out (ye gods)...(actually i was kicked out, but that's a whole story in and of itself.)

jess, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I did drop out of a history of art degree after three weeks.

james, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm doin a BSc in Media Technology. However I'm being partly taught it by Father Stone*, which in my system does not qualify as "well".

* The very boring priest

Graham, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Off to hide in the attic for three weeks with you, then.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

B.A.S. genetics and english (U.C. Davis); currently working on a molecular biology PhD (UC Berkeley). I really don't know shit though.

Kris, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

So tell us about getting kicked out of art school, Jess! Where? When? How? Come on!

Arthur, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

B.A. in economics from UCLA.

dan, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

B.A. in music, pursuing my M.A. in same sometime next year.

Phil, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

wellllll...

i'd like to think it involved some crazed piece of performance art involving dildoed dummies and green paint, but really i was just fed up, stopped going to classes, and they kicked me out...

BUT...

i still crashed the end of the year party for my major, piss ass drunk on several 40 ozs. of miller, made several lewd advances at a female professor i was majorly infatuated with (sample: "i couldn't tell you this when i was a student, but i think the fact that you don't shave your armpits is sooooo attractive." whoa there, romeo.), broke a chandilere, sang "pour some sugar on me" with the "band," stuck my buttocks in the dip, made ass print lithographs all over the walls, and was forcibly ejected from the hotel ballroom it took place in. which more than makes up for any missed opportunities at a "scene."

jess, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

B.A. in Art History, grad school drop-out, currently working on a degree in interior design but I'm disillusioned with that and would drop it if it weren't the only thing that gives my life a sense of purpose, even though I can tell it's going to make me miserable. I'm so sick of going to school. Academia is extremely overrated.

Kerry, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I was going to go to art school back in 92. I bailed on the interview at the last minute when I had a panic attack over being on my own with no money and just not feeling eccentric enough to make a living with a fine arts education. So I went staight out and got myself a dead end job that paid the bills. Now I'm taking night courses towards a business management degree. My creative side is something of a skeleton in the closet. But at least it's mine.

Kim, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh, don't be so hard on yourself, Jess. That's just as good as a crazed piece of performance art involving dildoed dummies and green paint.

Arthur, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I would count it as performance art, and the butt lithography is impressive.

Maria, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have four GCSEs and a bad attitude...or something.

DG, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

bA in English(post sexuality studies) and Spanish, trying to get through honours in eng(greative writhing)

Geoff, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I got into Berkeley off a lazy high school legacy and a "weird" college essay (so I'm told). So now I'm in college fooling around thinking maybe I'll be an artist, or drop out and be a musician. That's probably enough information to demonstrate how educated i was.

Honda, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It's 2 A.M. (E.S.T.) in the morning and I'm up preparing for trial later this morning (10 A.M.) Lesson: don't get that J.D., or if you do don't become a litigator!

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

a good reason for this thread? hmm. well i'm BA in Natural Sciences -- mostly History and Philosophy of Science, a chunk o physics and some other weird crap. the uni i went to gives you this fake MA upgrade-for-free kit if you manage to stay out of jail for 3 years too, but i stick with the BA. i'd say "broadly" edjemacated.

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I got 4 A-levels but one being in General Studies don't really count do it chaps? I did a year and a half of Politics with a little bit of English Lit in the mix, but dropped out due to mentalism and thinking it was a swiz and a skandal. I R not being contacting the university to see if I get anything for doing that so it was a waste of time and money and I regret it utterly. I'm depressed now.

Sarah, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

There's a great song by Ed's Redeeming Qualities called "Lawyers and Truckers" which I thought of with regard to Tads post. It's written from the point of view of a trucker in WUV with a GURL who only likes lawyers and quite rightly so sticks up for the truckers. They're good guys! I never met a lawyer who wasn't rotten. Truckers have better songs anyway. Although my punk rock band will have a song called "Ascertaining the ratio decidendi". I don't know what it means but my legal friend mentioned it. Sadly it sounds goff doesn't it. Bah, my lots with the truckers.

Sarah, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

alexei sayle had a truckers song/poem that went something like

Dorris Lessing, Dorris Lessing,

She's alright, she's alright

When it comes to Dorris Lessing

There really is no messing

and so on, or something like that.

Alan "Boil your cat, sir" Trewartha, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Alan, does bunch of other weird crap = Crystalline Materials by any chance?

RickyT, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

bah, rumbled. chemistry too. (isn't "bah" grate)

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

ba in english lit and philosophy. Yes people, i am good at writing crap.

Menelaus Darcy, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

art history , good at making comlex bullshit for simple things

anthony, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I dropped out of highschool at the end of Grade 9 but since then I've started: an electrician apprenticeship, a precision manufacture apprenticeship, fashion design, clerical administration, modern languages and electrical engineering and I finally actually finished something which was a BAppSc (Bachelor of Applied Science that is) and now I am into massage and have done and am still doing various massage courses, and reiki. In the future I will study teaching, Indonesian, Japanese, linguistics, osteopathy, medicine (haven't decided between allopathic and homeopathic yet) and myotherapy. Oh and nutrition too. I have lots of fun.

toraneko, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

BA in Business studies i.e. the degree for people who have no idea what to do with their lives when they leave school, I hated approximately most of it.

chris, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

mine's quite interesting: BA (hons) Popular Music Studies from Leeds.

chris, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

BA in English! Was going to do MA but got UTTERLY fed up with all the bullshit that goes along with academia. plus as Ricky T is fed up with me pointing out, arts degrees are NO GOOD unless you want to be a teacher, and i don't.

katie, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

BA in Ancient and Modern History.

Tom, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

In my final year of an undergraduate MEng in Mechanical Engineering and Italian, want to do a an MID or MA DIC in industrial design (depends o n where I go).

Ed, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Katie, that is soooooo not true. Folks w/arts degrees are just as employable as those w/science ones.

RickyT, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have BA in Art History. I spent last year working on an MA in Cultural Studies but I have no idea when I get my results. I can't decide whether to do further study or not.

rosemary, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

BA in English (who'd have thunk it eh?) and am working part-time on a MLIS, which I should finally done with next May.

Nicole, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

BS Chemistry MIT

I am hoping to get a MBA sometime.

marianna, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Honor society- something nice for your resume and a newsletter a couple of times a year. PBK is one of the oldest such societies in america.

Samantha, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

BA Media and Communications, Goldsmiths College, University of London. I might as well have 'time-wasting chump' written on my CV.

Andrew L, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

AB (which is BA in Latin, ho ho) in computer science. I think I should have gotten an honorary degree in Glee Club, though, considering how much of my time it took up.

(Glee Club: a choir/singing group, traditionally all-male, that sings a type of song called a "glee", which sounds a lot like barbershop music. Most modern glee clubs are associated with universities and have much wider repertoire than this. The Harvard Glee Club is officially the oldest university singing group in the US. I was the vice-president my senior year; this is my LEGACY. Sarah, I am SO down for creating the international IL* Glee Club next time I'm in London!)

Dan Perry, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

BFA = big fuckin' attitude

Nude Spock, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

BS computer science. If I'd have known how boring a career path this is I'd have probably explored my options better. At least I can afford the music I want.

nickn, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm sorry Nickn. I think though that every bit of education you can get today is very valuable. In fact more valuable than money. :) I'm proud of you! :)

Gale Deslongchamps, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

BA Gender and Womens Studies. if having a degree counts for anything. i think not

di, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

If I frighten you now Nick, wait till you see my hallowe'en costume. Heh.

Eds Redeeming Qualities: my friend saw Eds Next Move, wuvved it, bought Eds Redeeming Qualities albums, taped for myself. Is that so scary? Just wait till I give some serious thought to my love of trucking records and then some frightening recesses of my mind will no doubt will be revealed.

Sarah, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

time to reveal all me thinks gale.

Geoff, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Go for it Geoff... What do you want to reveal? Gale

Gale Deslongchamps, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hi Geoff :) I'm sorry I think you meant about my survey... Ok but as I said I may get the BOOT from the list! :( But here goes. I took this survey for only one reason. I wanted to ask you all this Question. If all of you are as well educated as you say, then why do you all swear when you are well educated and can use correct language? You may notice that I didn't state my qualifications. The education I received in school stopped in grade 8. After that I was educatated in life! Please all of you that thought you didn't have the best of education, think of me! I hope you all do well. :)Hugs Gale.

Gale Deslongchamps, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Gale, we swear due to our appreciation of Anglo-Saxon richness of the words in use.

BA in Humanities from SLC. Wanted to do more but cacademia lost out to highly lucrative writing for magazines and doing books-type stuff (cough).

suzy, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Thank you Suzy .. I'd also like to add very well put! :) Gale P.S I hope you hold no ill will towards me for conducting this survey.

Gale Deslongchamps, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Gale, there's knowing, and then there's doing. Freedom is the ground in between.

Kim, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Jinkies, who in tarnation said that? It sure doesn't sound like something I'd say.

Kim, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

maryann is a rocket scientist.

duane, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Actually I am an MA (Murderer (Axe))

Duane is a brain surgeon

maryann, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

yeah I just did the Budgie Crash Course.

duane, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

fuck no, i ain't worried by yr survey - it intrigues me. fuck is a wonderful paart of the englsh language, and all other languages have similar expressions of joy, disgust eetc. fuck in english can be verb, noun, adjective etc, can be a conjunctive, as in i so don't fucking care, or super-fucking-duper. it's a beuatiful word, in my opinion.

Geoff, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Fucking A, dude.

Josh, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I guess I shouldn't use my Masters in Fucking Around line.

bnw, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It's a little known fact that I have a Certificate of Completion in the art of glass blowing. This is not cooky glass though, that costed more.

rainy, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I think she had to sit the practical though.

Maryann, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

and lemme tellya, that sucker was TWISTY!

rainy, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am a certified reverend, and I have the certificate to prove it.

Menelaus Darcy, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i got my driver's licence off the back of a corn flakes packet

duane, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

are you doubting my legitimacy as a reverend? The best thing I ever received from a cornflakes packet was a picture of some celebrity or another. What brand do you eat to get such great prizes? :)

What was the point of this survey again?

Menelaus Darcy, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

four months pass...
I like that MFA joke, still

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Thursday, 22 July 2004 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

5 A Levels, attended Cambridge briefly, then got a 1st in computer science, but only from De Montfort. I think I'm better educated from reading and thinking outside academic contexts than what I gained from school and uni, personally.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 22 July 2004 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

if by educated you mean stoned, yes.

j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Thursday, 22 July 2004 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a BA in Theatre (in Acting/Directing specifically, I sucked at the stage management kind of stuff when I did that) and a BS in Computre (sic) Engineering.

I guess that makes me well-rounded if not well-educated.

I was Phi Beta Kappa too, bitches! So fuck all y'all.

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 22 July 2004 21:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Honours degree (M.A.) in Philosophy and a post-grad in IT and Management. But I don't think I was well educated. Or rather I don't think I made the best of the education I was offered. But I'm doing OK.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 22 July 2004 21:25 (twenty-one years ago)

imagine what my creative writing / english degree's done for me.

j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Thursday, 22 July 2004 21:49 (twenty-one years ago)

B.S. Molecular Biology, M.S. Microbiology and Immunology, which they gave me as a consolation prize after dropping out of a Ph.D. program about four years into it.

I think it would have been difficult for me to learn the science stuff outside the context of formal academic programs -- one needs a lot of fancy & expensive equiptment to do research. And I do use my science background every damn day. But all of the medical writing/editing stuff I now do I figured out sans formal education, and I certainly agree that being well educated has little/nothing to do with degrees, etc.

quincie, Friday, 23 July 2004 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)
