OK, the FAP thread in now official.

THE PLAN THE PLAN THE PLAN!!

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

You should all fly to Boston and see the opera I'm in!

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

No! We mock you!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

We spank you... BOONGA BOONGA BOONGA!

Anyway... Seattle FAP.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

yes...are there any details? I suggest thrift shopping (duh), in addition to record shopping

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, we shall let Gareth speak, and decide from there. But a dinner type thing is certainly a good idea.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 20:58 (twenty-one years ago)

dinner dinner dinner, yes. Cap Hill? Fremont? that sushi place? Thai? I'm down for anything at all. it will be GREBT to have him here. maybe for lunch I can bring him to Salumi, that'd be fun. unless it's on a weekend, which I'm thinking it is.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

April 30th is a Friday. May 1st is a Saturday. I have no idea if Gareth can stay longer than that.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

BTW, Gareth, just to save you some money, there's a bus that will take you to downtown Seattle from the airport that costs just $2.. don't be fooled into paying over $30 for a taxi.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

if he's able to get to downtown early afternoon Friday I could totally treat him to Salumi.

I usually take taxis just because they're faster but DB is totally OTM.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, your bus takes off before 6:45pm, you get to go inside the uber cool undeground bus tunnel, which is half spooky, half funny.
(It's like a subway, except.. you're just in a bus! WOOOOOO!)

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 21:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Depending when you get in Gareth, you might be able to say fuck the bus and the taxis... Jen and I live pretty damned close to the airport and have wheels. It's possible we can work something out.

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I have taken this tunnel/bus thing. MY SOUL WAS SHRIVEN FROM MY BODY. But there wasn't much of a soul there anyway. Or a body.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Hell no, the bus tunnels are FUN. I've half a mind to not even bother to try to work something out picking Gareth up, just so he gets to experience them.

Best thing to think about while in the tunnel is the fact that you are BELOW SEA LEVEL UNDER CONCRETE IN A BUS.

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 21:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, it's still quite bright out before 7pm... taking photos of the graffiti in the bus only road right before the bus tunnel is UBER U+K!!!!!

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

i arrive at 909 pm on friday30th, i havent sorted anything out at all yet, i only just confirmed the flight!

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 22:36 (twenty-one years ago)

909!!!! EXCELLENT!

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 22:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Revolution 909!

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 22:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyone interested in Saturday AM brunch? Top Pot?

lyra (lyra), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 22:40 (twenty-one years ago)

oooh, good idea! doughnuts!

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 22:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck. Well now that Coachella's out, maybe I should come to this thing. OH CRUEL TEMPTATION.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

why is Coachella out?

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 23:00 (twenty-one years ago)

(Day one of the show sold out)

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 23:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, if Gareth is arriving at 9:09pm, the last express bus out of SeaTac is 9:12pm... which means he probably won't be able to make the bus. :( hmmmm, maybe someone should pick him up at the airport?

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 23:04 (twenty-one years ago)

And Top Pot sounds great!

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

(Day one of the show sold out)

Much to my continued surprise. Still, with those headliners I should have guessed.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 23:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought it was in the middle of the desert and couldn't sell out! wow!

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 23:16 (twenty-one years ago)

ned, don't they know who you are? you're ned!

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 23:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned, look at it this way. If that amount of acres can actually sell out, day one looks like it will pretty miserable if you're not into rubbing against sweaty sunburnt people every second of the day.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

so, what about the 1st may? do we have any concrete ideas/suggestions yet?

i think i will be around until maybe the 3rd, before heading down the coast, though nothing is set in stone by any means

gareth (gareth), Monday, 26 April 2004 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

all this concrete/stone talk :) granite last much longer?

stevem (blueski), Monday, 26 April 2004 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

if needed, i could probably do an airport scoop. i may not be avail for friday night hangout but saturday AM sounds good, plus i have never been to top pot!

ron (ron), Monday, 26 April 2004 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought it was in the middle of the desert and couldn't sell out! wow!

Officially it's on a polo ground. I guess that can sell out!

ned, don't they know who you are? you're ned!

I fear this is why they're not letting me in?

Ned, look at it this way. If that amount of acres can actually sell out, day one looks like it will pretty miserable if you're not into rubbing against sweaty
sunburnt people every second of the day.

You bring the romance back to seeing bad indie rock at 3 pm under a blazing sun.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 26 April 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Well now that Coachella's out, maybe I should come to this thing. OH CRUEL TEMPTATION.

Go for it Ned! Seattle is likely to be much more enjoyable and fun than Coachella would be anyway.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 26 April 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

join us, Ned...it's blissssssss

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Monday, 26 April 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

hmmmm, maybe someone should pick him up at the airport?

As mentioned before, Jen and I live close to the airport and shouldn't have any trouble providing a pick-up if necessary.

martin m. (mushrush), Monday, 26 April 2004 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd still love to go up! Hm. MAYBE if I swing a last minute cheapo ticket. I'll do some checking around. And Seattle is always fun, yus.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 26 April 2004 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned will spend May yoyoing up the west coast.

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 26 April 2004 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 26 April 2004 18:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned is the bright elusive butterfly of tourism.

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 26 April 2004 18:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Do I sparkle and twinkle in the breeze?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 26 April 2004 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

(Thank god for the letter 'w'.)

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 26 April 2004 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, yes.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 26 April 2004 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

So what's happening, where? Where is Gareth from? Ned are you coming?

bimble (bimble), Monday, 26 April 2004 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I would love to, I cannot be sure. I have to set aside some cash for my Portland trip on Memorial Day, so it's likely I can't spare any for this weekend -- I'm going to have to check prices, do some calculating when my paycheck arrives on Friday, and maybe consider some sort of insane fly-up-Saturday-morning fly-back-Sunday-night thing. MAYBE.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 26 April 2004 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned, what's the use of having winged monkey if you never USE them?

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 26 April 2004 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

(I have no idea where that came from, either.)

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 26 April 2004 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned, the time has come for you to learn do DRIVE.

For crying out loud.

martin m. (mushrush), Monday, 26 April 2004 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

DRIVING FROM OC TO SEATTLE???????

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 26 April 2004 19:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I was about to say, Martin, I'm not doing THAT. I've BEEN on that drive, twice, and even as a passenger it was...wearying.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 26 April 2004 19:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I wondered. The Mix was where we heard Zeppelin!

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

"Immigrant Song" >>>>>>>>>>>>> "Do You Realize"

Especially when four ILXers bob their heads simultaneously to the former...

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 19:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Castle in the Sky AS YOU'VE NEVER SEEN IT BEFORE.

This thread gives me the envy.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, that restaurant looked amazing.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 19:34 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a fantastic place, went to it last time I was in Seattle visiting DB. Food's good, the setting compelling.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

i am at this point completely shamed by the fact that i have never been to thai tom

Let's Thai Tom this joint this week. What do you say?

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 00:39 (twenty-one years ago)

(Layna, Bimble, Scott CE, and anyone else who hasn't been Thai Tomed yet -- if you guys are indeed Thai Tom virgins, the same goes for you...)

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 00:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey great pix DB! :)

Man... is it Gareth's aim in life to meet EVERY ILXor EVER? Has he ever been to Melbourne? (He probably has and I missed it or something).

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 00:47 (twenty-one years ago)

(insert photoshop of gareth with kangaroo here)

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 01:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahaha!!!!! GET SPICY!! fuX0rs!!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 01:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Man... is it Gareth's aim in life to meet EVERY ILXor EVER?

He and I are ranking up there, I think. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 02:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't THINK we've been to Thai Tom... when when? I am always up for Thai food.

Layna Andersen (Layna Andersen), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 02:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Cool. It's my birthday this weekend, so I can turn old eating Thai. :-)

lyra (lyra), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 02:55 (twenty-one years ago)

sounds good...I've not been, so there you go

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 02:57 (twenty-one years ago)

i am free friday night, and probably a good part of sunday

ron (ron), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 03:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Thai Tom was sosososo good that I think Martin and I would be up for it two weekends in a row. Even if I vowed that all we were going to do this upcoming weekend was finish unpacking and cleaning the house.

Jen (nstop), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 03:52 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, right :)

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 03:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I am a Thai Tom vet (mmmmm...swimming rama) but inexperienced fap-wise. I could do late friday (like after 9), or Sunday. Otherwise I will wait till the next time (Mountain Goats Mountain Goats Mountain Goats). That's OK; if you have more than 4 or 5 people, the wait at Thai Tom's can be a little opressive, anyway.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 05:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd be happy to do Thai Tom, never been there. I'm free Friday or Saturday. This is in U-district right? Hey - I almost forgot to ask you guys/gals - you said Cellophane Square had VINYL? I don't recall ever seeing vinyl in there! Unless it's...upstairs or something? Hmm...

bimble (bimble), Thursday, 6 May 2004 03:05 (twenty-one years ago)

It was my first time in there, but yeah, they have vinyl... it's kinda right up front when you enter. There are three small bins of "recent arrivals" and then the rest of the stuff is on low shelves.

Perhaps they've remodeled and moved the vinyl recently?

Thai Tom is pretty much across the street from Cellophane Square. In fact the only reason we went into Cellphane Sq is cause we had a 30 minute wait to eat at Thai Tom.

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 6 May 2004 03:10 (twenty-one years ago)

That CS has a small vinyl section right in front.. there are the "hot" records which are displayed better, and then the more common ones where you have to crouch down in a weird fluorescent lighted shelf. But the vinyl is there.. and I won't get into the jealous rage I had when I saw what Jen discovered there.

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 6 May 2004 03:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Nah, that store has had a vinyl section like that for years. Their section is like a fruit tree. You just have to go about once a season or so, if you're a vinyl junkie.

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 6 May 2004 03:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm up for a Thai tom early dinner this Friday

Thing is: we'll have to break up into parties of 4 or less for anyone interested. It's just impossible to fit a party of 5 or more given how tiny the place is. Thankfully there should be plenty of ways to kill time around that block (up the Ave from 45th st. on the west side of the street), like, oh, RECORD SHOPPING at Cellophane Squared! Or getting gargoyles at the Gargoyles store. or stuff like that.

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 6 May 2004 03:19 (twenty-one years ago)

those are gorgeous.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 14 May 2004 18:34 (twenty-one years ago)

They are really beautiful.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Friday, 14 May 2004 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Marvellous stuff. :-) I recognize many of them locales, right down to the troll statue dude under the bridge.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 14 May 2004 19:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't know about this until I saw the picture! I'm kind of pissed I miss this when I was in Seattle -- it would have been preferable to being attacked by bees (sadly, this is my most vivid memory from my trip to Seattle).

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Friday, 14 May 2004 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Eep! :-( How blah.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 14 May 2004 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I am grateful for the inside-the-ferry picture

gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 14 May 2004 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Nicole, when were you in Seattle? (before I got here obv. but still curious)

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Friday, 14 May 2004 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

2001 -- pretty long ago.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Friday, 14 May 2004 19:11 (twenty-one years ago)

probably after I left last time, actually. I lived here Aug 99-March 01 before coming back June 03.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Friday, 14 May 2004 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I vaguely remember Nicole telling me she would be in Seattle but unfortunately not available for any FAPping due to family reasons. (Nothing against her family, mind you!) And I also remember that weekend being the most ridiculously hot weekend in Seattle ever, and thinking "wow, what a.. uh, weird weather time to visit Seattle"

Gareth.. those pics are great. f'in great.

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 15 May 2004 00:27 (twenty-one years ago)

gabbneb, it was the perfect ferry picture opportunity. Washington state just closed the snack bars in the ferries (due to being too expensive and not breaking even) but haven't gotten quite rid of the equipment in the snack bars yet.. hence the rather still lonely ghostly feel of the upper deck in question.

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 15 May 2004 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I like that one w/me and DB and Donna in it--a couple of my coworkers as well, haha.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Saturday, 15 May 2004 00:31 (twenty-one years ago)

the ferry picture would have been slightly more perfect if it displayed the Big Cookie i used to insist on buying and eating on the ferry, but it's close

gabbneb (gabbneb), Saturday, 15 May 2004 00:32 (twenty-one years ago)

(sad that they're closing though; seems to be a lot of cost-cutting in the system)

gabbneb (gabbneb), Saturday, 15 May 2004 00:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Aw, I've gotten soda on those ferries (I think). Oh well.

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 15 May 2004 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

They still serves snacks and soda on the ferries, just now in vending machines. You can even get boutique vending machine coffee on the Washington state ferries (gasp, shockah.) Gareth was really amused that buttons that referred to the extras for the coffee vending machine were called "Compliments".

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 15 May 2004 01:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Not "complements"?

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 15 May 2004 02:23 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, I was arguing with Gareth that maybe they misspelled that very word! which would make some sort of sense.

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 15 May 2004 02:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Then again I guess it was free -- compliments of the great state of Washington!

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 15 May 2004 02:29 (twenty-one years ago)

i like these pictures. they remind me of a well-laid-out SimCity level.

Kingfish Disraeli (Kingfish), Saturday, 15 May 2004 08:29 (twenty-one years ago)

lovely pics, gareth.
