In brief -- Serge and Whitney end up on French talk show. In the midst of inanities, host asks Serge, "Anything you want to say to Whitney?" Responds Serge in French, "I want to fuck her." Host embarrassedly tries to translate that into something polite, at which point Serge repeats the phrase...in English. If anyone has more accurate details, please share!

I was subjected to a Gainsbourg approach of sorts once. I was invited to a flat to listen to records (ahem) and the first record played was Histoire de Melody Nelson. Did it work? What do you think?

I love Serge Gainsbourg! All of his songs are classic. Well, maybe not 'Lemon Incest' - which carries the perviest lines of ALL TIME: 'Delicious child, my own flesh and blood' - Yeah, alright Serge.

Apart from that '69 annee erotique', 'Bonnie and Clyde'...

There's a really good album of cover versions sung in English by Bad Seed Mick Harvey called 'Intoxicated Man'- it rules.

Love all things Gainsbourg, and have interviewed Charlotte (now on cover of the Edgy Style Mag I work for) and the direct approach is marvellous if you're my type of shy/bold combo.

very good 12" of minimal gainsbourg remixes at the moment. excellent herbert remix of bonny and clyde on it. 'Aux Armes etc.' is probably my favorite gainsbourg tune (Sly and Robbie produced laid back galouise smoking roots rock version of the marseillaise), bonnie and clyde following on shortly behind.

(suzy I'll read your pice just as soon as local trendy bar gets a new copy of Edgy Style Mag (you didn't think I'd actually buy it did you ;-)))
