I'm just about sure they're the worst thing in the world

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Saturday, 1 May 2004 03:34 (twenty-one years ago)

they might be giants

the surface noise (electricsound), Saturday, 1 May 2004 03:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a soft spot for them, actually. Not a big one though.

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Saturday, 1 May 2004 03:38 (twenty-one years ago)

The Squirrels are utterly rock. And utterly funny.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 1 May 2004 03:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Search: The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band
Destroy: All the others ¡

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 1 May 2004 03:42 (twenty-one years ago)

b-b-but the ramones!!

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Saturday, 1 May 2004 04:02 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a difference from being funny and being a 'comedy band'.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 1 May 2004 04:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Alex, you said what I was going to!

latebloomer (latebloomer), Saturday, 1 May 2004 04:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Happens too much. but then again, I probbaly just have a really obvious mind.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Saturday, 1 May 2004 04:16 (twenty-one years ago)

were sam the sham and the pharaohs a 'comedy band'?

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Saturday, 1 May 2004 04:25 (twenty-one years ago)

sometimes they work, sometimes not.

Kingfish Disraeli (Kingfish), Saturday, 1 May 2004 04:28 (twenty-one years ago)

x-post

Probably not in the true sense. Their songs could be considered almost hard rock of their day. But they did make you realize there are other styles than just The Beatles.

jim wentworth (wench), Saturday, 1 May 2004 04:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope no one mentions Ween. They're too good for this thread.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Saturday, 1 May 2004 04:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Once again, just because a band happens to be funny -- and Ween are seriously damn funny -- that doesn't render them a "comedy band" (ala Weird Al Yankovic).r

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 1 May 2004 05:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I know. That's what I'm saying. I didn't want someone goin', "Ween's a really good comedy band" or something. They're way better than just a comedy band.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Saturday, 1 May 2004 05:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I am looking forward to Goldy Looking Chains duet with the Darkness, performing Walk This Way. N.B I got this info from CD:UK.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 1 May 2004 10:45 (twenty-one years ago)

the shirehorses.

g-kit (g-kit), Saturday, 1 May 2004 10:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Half Man Half Biscuit?

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 1 May 2004 11:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Search: I Ludicrous
Destroy: The Macc Lads

Run away from: The Barron Knights

holojames (holojames), Saturday, 1 May 2004 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

The barron Knights sounded pretty good when I was seven. Maybe seven yr olds are their target audience.

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 1 May 2004 11:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Arrogant Worms have their moments. Much like Corky and The Juice Pigs did. But if I have to hear Moxy Fruvous once more I'll scream.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 1 May 2004 11:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Are the Toy Dolls considered a comedy band? Cuz I love them a lot. I've never seen any love for them on ILM.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 1 May 2004 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

And they have some of the greatest song-titles of all time.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 1 May 2004 12:05 (twenty-one years ago)

One day I'll have to pick up a compilation of the Toy Dolls' stuff. I've only seen them live enough back in 1992 but it was to a packed house of about 3000 and they owned the place. At one point the guitar amp cut out but Olga just kept smiling and playing and shouted, "Keep going!" as they got it fixed!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 1 May 2004 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

mojo nixon? the dead milkmen? are they comedy or just funny? I think they trend toward the former.

kyle (akmonday), Saturday, 1 May 2004 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

If that's your way of saying the Dead Milkmen aren't funny, then yeah, they're comedy.

Nate in ST.P (natedetritus), Saturday, 1 May 2004 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

they might be giants

I hate that people always consider them a joke/comedy band. Comedy bands don't usually have lyrics like:

"No one in the world ever gets what they want and that is beautiful. Everybody dies frustrated and sad and that is beautiful."

nickalicious (nickalicious), Saturday, 1 May 2004 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Nickalicious otm, TMBG is far from a comedy band. They're kinda quirky, but the overall tone, at least on the older stuff, is more often sad than funny.

NA (Nick A.), Saturday, 1 May 2004 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I wouldn't call TMBG strictly a comedy band (although tracks like "Put Your Hand in the Puppet's Head", "Particle Man" and "Minimum Wage" don't aid that argument), but they're certainly a comedic band.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 1 May 2004 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned, their is a great Toy Dolls comp put out by Castle called "we're mad!" that is great and about all you will ever need. It's comprehensive and then some. (2 cds) If you see it used, buy that. It's got all the classics: "Nellie The Elephant", "Carol Dodds Is Pregnant", "Yul Brynner Was A Skinhead", "I'm A Telly Addict", "The Devil Went Down To Scunthorpe", etc.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 1 May 2004 19:58 (twenty-one years ago)

But if I have to hear Moxy Fruvous once more I'll scream.

This would assume that Moxy Fruvous were even a tiny bit amusing, which they are not.
