and before the usual suspects pipe up, i'd be upset if justices thomas, rehnquist, or scalia were also attacked and beaten.

< insert gabbneb conspiracy theory here >

good that he's ok. evidently a big jogger. was running near the water in SE, presumably along the bikepath, and two guys assaulted him.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Saturday, 1 May 2004 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Was it the same guy who got Kevin Spacey???

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 1 May 2004 18:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Kevin Spacey didn't get attacked. Just "conned."

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 1 May 2004 18:23 (twenty-two years ago)

<<tries hard not to presume sexual motivations for either attack>>

Layna Andersen (Layna Andersen), Saturday, 1 May 2004 18:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm surprised that the Justices don't have some kind of Secret Service protection post-911.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Saturday, 1 May 2004 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Milo, you beat me to it. But I naively assumed that they'd have some sort of security detail even pre-911, given their standing.

the krza (krza), Saturday, 1 May 2004 18:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Layna actually said EXACTLY what I was thinking when I first read this. I've heard rumors floating about Souter for a while, but I'm not sure it's the conservative machine trying to soil one of their enemies.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Saturday, 1 May 2004 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Wouldn't be the first time, but I doubt you would really stoop to beating down an opponent just to get your name in the paper. That wouldn't improve the conservative image

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Saturday, 1 May 2004 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh no, I was talking about them spreading the rumors of sexual piccadillos, not them beating him.
