because i'm a lazy slattern. because it's more fun to listen to roy orbison and stare at the wall, or to go out and buy impractical shoes than it is to sift through piles of junk that have been sitting for several years.* motivate me!!

* fact: there is a suitcase from summer 2002 under my bed that i still haven't fully unpacked.

lauren (laurenp), Saturday, 1 May 2004 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

this is so the story of my apartment, too ... i need some encouragement as well!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Saturday, 1 May 2004 20:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I regret that I cannot help you.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 1 May 2004 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

remember last night when i said i was going to drink vodka tonics and do laundry?

i never got past the vodka tonics.

now i'm drinking again, against my better judgment.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 1 May 2004 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

come on, guys! up and at it!

lauren (laurenp), Saturday, 1 May 2004 21:02 (twenty-one years ago)

dude, i am the absolute worst person in the WORLD when it comes to cleaning my house, but i did it last week and felt so much fucking better about my life, about everything. you should totally do it.

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 1 May 2004 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

My wife gave our apartment some organization last night. It's so much of a relief to have it a bit cleaner, and I'm usually the kind of person who functions well in a mess. It just feels so good to have that extra floor space.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Saturday, 1 May 2004 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

s1ocki OTM. i'm terrible about cleaning regularly, but when i do get my shit together it's great relief for major crankiness/minor depressions.

the krza (krza), Saturday, 1 May 2004 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

jesus christ. i have more pairs of fishnets than you can shake a stick at... and now they're all in the same drawer! whoop!

lauren (laurenp), Saturday, 1 May 2004 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

put on some loud, fast music and do it all in a blitz.

don (don), Saturday, 1 May 2004 21:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I love cleaning my apartment. Instant gratification, physical labor, and the results last for longer than 3 seconds.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Saturday, 1 May 2004 21:23 (twenty-one years ago)

i also have two chungking express dvds! this is what happens when you're hideously disorganized.

lauren (laurenp), Saturday, 1 May 2004 21:29 (twenty-one years ago)

does anyone want a really nice brown pleather minidress? it has a wicked brass buckle belt just above the waist and hits about 4" above the knee. fits a u.s. 4-6, up to 36 bust. i'm too fat & middle-aged to wear it anymore, and the idea of throwing it out breaks my heart.

lauren (laurenp), Saturday, 1 May 2004 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

the nyc chixors should do a clothes swap like the london ladies did.

teeny (teeny), Saturday, 1 May 2004 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

also: a floor-length sleeveless sky blue sheath with gold and cream lace overlay and marabou-trimmed hem.

lauren (laurenp), Saturday, 1 May 2004 21:36 (twenty-one years ago)

anyone need a bass overdrive pedal?

lauren (laurenp), Saturday, 1 May 2004 21:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Lauren, this is the site you need if you want to get up your enthusiasm for house cleaning. Bookmark it now:

gabbneb (gabbneb), Saturday, 1 May 2004 22:00 (twenty-one years ago)

i just found my copy of a shropshire lad, missing ere these last few months!

lauren (laurenp), Saturday, 1 May 2004 22:30 (twenty-one years ago)

and i found two expensive, barely used lipsticks in a bag shoved under the wardrobe. it's like jesus is rewarding me for my industriousness!

lauren (laurenp), Saturday, 1 May 2004 22:38 (twenty-one years ago)

i encourage you all to come and clean my house!

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 1 May 2004 23:43 (twenty-one years ago)

it's not really all that dirty but i have cool stuff!

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 1 May 2004 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)

That FLY website is hideous! It is Oprah like in its sickly sweetness and whats worse, it seems to assume only women with children are messy. I guess the rest of us have no damn excuse and dont deserve help! hehe.

(I am a slob, I hate it, I really need to get some cleaning done. I have boxes of shit that move with me to each flat and I never unpack. Jeezus)

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 2 May 2004 02:33 (twenty-one years ago)

You don't find it erotic?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 2 May 2004 02:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Perhaps we should set up an international cleaning exchange programme, on the premise that we're all too lazy to clean our own homes, but would enjoy being nosey in other peoples homes.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 2 May 2004 09:04 (twenty-one years ago)

dust is my major problem.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 2 May 2004 09:05 (twenty-one years ago)

anyway, clean your house and tomorrow you'll feel better for it.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 2 May 2004 09:12 (twenty-one years ago)

dust is my social life!!

mark s (mark s), Sunday, 2 May 2004 10:00 (twenty-one years ago)

The best way I know - in fact I have just spent the morning tidying and cleaning - is: invite loads of people round for a party, and then realise, at the last minute, that you better do something about the squalor.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Sunday, 2 May 2004 11:02 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, trayce, I thought the site implied only women with children were people, the rest of us are just imaginary or something. Also JtN OTM.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 2 May 2004 13:04 (twenty-one years ago)

JTN OTM (and teeny otm too)

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Sunday, 2 May 2004 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Duster or kebab? You decide.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 2 May 2004 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm clearing out my garage today, which seems to have accumulated lots of junk. Things in the 'chucking out' pile so far include twelve tins of paint containing dried up leftovers (why did I save those?), one broken sewing machine and Battle of the Sexes board game which I don't think has ever been played.

There's something deeply satisfying about clearing out the junk like this, I feel quite invigorated.

C J (C J), Sunday, 2 May 2004 13:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Duster or kebab? You decide.!

hahaha! that looks EXACTLY like a shawarma stack!

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 2 May 2004 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

after a break last night to see mean girls w/ aaron w (who is way too fond of lindsay lohan), i'm ready to resume labor. i think it's time to deal with some lps several feet hight around the tv, blocking access to the video/dvd. but how can you organize things if there isn't any room? i have no idea where any of them can go.

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 2 May 2004 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Put up some shelves!

C J (C J), Sunday, 2 May 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

a clean house always makes me want to get ... dirty## this could be encouragement to your task or not, i'm not sure.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Sunday, 2 May 2004 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

at some point it seems that i decided to see how many stale, half-consumed packs of airwaves i could hoard.

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 2 May 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

also.
q: how many nearly identical, black leather/croc 50s/60s style shoulder bags does a girl need?
a: 11, if your name is lauren.

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 2 May 2004 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

you could probably make do with 5.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 2 May 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

purses or rock-hard pieces of airwaves?

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 2 May 2004 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Bass Overdrive pedal? Aaahh, what wonderfulness. It's so hard to get good distortion for a bass!

I need to clean up this mess before HSA comes home. There's linguistics books all over the floor. At least I did the dishes and the laundry.

Super-Kate (kate), Sunday, 2 May 2004 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

i luv the pedal. unfortunately, i no longer have the bass so it's not much good to me.

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 2 May 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

"He who would write must let the grass grow long." (somebody famous--no doubt a writer--said that. I forget just who.)

pepektheassassin (pepektheassassin), Sunday, 2 May 2004 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Was it Alan Titchmarsh?

C J (C J), Sunday, 2 May 2004 19:53 (twenty-one years ago)

clean your house you dirty slob

CAss (CAss), Sunday, 2 May 2004 22:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you want my bass, then? help me get the junk out of my flat! I always use sequenced keybass these days!

Super-Kate (kate), Monday, 3 May 2004 06:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I just cleaned my house! I didn't find anything more unexpected than ants in the kitchen. I don't think I've actually lived anywhere long enough to find really surprising stuff. Maybe in 1998, in a kind of evil corollary to this I had housecleaners from the anti-universe i.e. THIEVES break into my house. I found stuff on the floor that I'd totally forgotten about (old love letters, to be honest).

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 3 May 2004 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

noooo! kate, no more junk is allowed in my house either! i'm not saying that it isn't tempting beyond belief, but knowing me it would end up as a high-concept coat rack.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 3 May 2004 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd be more than willing to take that extra Chungking Express DVD off your hands for a fair price.
