Bear in mind I'm a chap and cannot therefore go into a boutique or what have you.

Buy her an In the Nursery record. Works for me. ;-)

a vase or something like that...go to an antique shop and get something with a design you like on it.

Or an antique clock.

my mum went for nigel slater cookbooks in a big way, as do I

Ed, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I always feel a bit weird about the prospect of buying my mum a cookbook (although thanks for the suggestion). I would not have appreciated a maths book for my birthday when I was still at school and I think my mum feels the same about cookbooks.

Big huge cable cardi It's Grim Up North sweaters from Uniqlo are £25. And easily look like four times the cost. Happy Xmas, mom.

suzy, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My mum's well easy to get stuff for, a CD will do, last time it was a Destiny's Child album. She also seems to think that Uniqlo place is WICKED.

morning after pill, after i'm done with her.

matthew james, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That's very rude.

Jonnie, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My mom wants a t-shirt with Bat Boy on it. Failing that, usually any random thing I find in a store works, particularly if it involves animals. I bought her a poster of a monkey drinking liquor. It said EVANGELISTA on the bottom, which was disturbing cos I didn't notice it, that's her family name.

Ally, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Take her out to dinner. She'd probably love the time with you.

Samantha, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What do you mean you can't go into a boutique?

Sean, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, you know, I'd probably end up spending an absolute fortune on myself.

Jonnie, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Jonnie you want to get her a voucher for some beauty parlour type thing. That's what I got and she was going on about to all her friends for at least a day or so.

Ronan, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

SATAN! (SATAN... SATAN...)

Oops. Wrong question.

Brian MacDonald, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

my mom always has cold feet so i was going to buy her socks with the toes...gloves for the feet.

ernest, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My mom refuses to give me any ideas, and if she does it's something like "potholders." So I get her jewelry that she almost never wears. That sort of thing.

Maria, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hi Ally, Are you on another list as well as this one by chance? Gale

Gale Deslongchamps, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I buy my Mum rosebushes and occasionally pretty glass vases.

rainy, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hi Jonny :) Is your Mom an older lady? If she is, a gift that is worth it's weight, is a set of corelle dishes. They are light & unbreakable. That is all my Mom uses now. :) Good luck! Gale

Gale Deslongchamps, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

A card you made yourself.

rosemary, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

She liked the pants I gave her last year ;-)

chris, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

show her this thread and prove just how much you have been thinking about it... oh or steal some flowers. I seem to end up getting my mother one of the frederick forsythe novels she is addicted to.

Perhaps you will just have to harden up and go to a boutique

Menelaus Darcy, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Flowers are good. Or spa gift certificates. Or some nice luxury bath stuff, like fancy soaps. My mom is always just thrilled when one of us bums remembers. And she likes Neil Diamond and Bob Seger and Carole King.

bnw, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm not on any lists, not even this one.

Ally, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

anthonyeaston, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)
