Fat bastards in bands: c/d?

I'm just curious what people think on this. Are you harder on bands that have ugly people in them? Do you think fat musicians should hide behind drums? This is actually a serious question.

Did you forget you initials again, Cal?

Also, I saw the Pixies in Spokane a little over a week ago, and no matter how large Frank Black gets, he can still rock. At least in the context of playing with the Pixies...

martin m. (mushrush), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I picked the drums so that I would be free to get fat. Still working on it.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

In Canada you would be the goalie.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

drummers burn off a lot of fat, I would've thought.

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Bass players are more likely to have heft.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Admittedly, I sometimes like bands better that have ugly musicians because I'm less likely to think they're full of themselves.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I did click on this wondering if it was someone I knew, but it's honeslty not...

drummers burn off a lot of fat, I would've thought.

Nah. Maybe at first, but once you get some technique it's all in the wrists and fingers, everything else is for show.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Fat drummers always seem to have hot chops btw...maybe that's why they're fat! All the skinny drummers are busy flailing around needlessly, sounding bad and burning calories.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Drummers get to sit down the whole show! Only the keyboardist gets less exercise.

xpost ha ha "flailing around needlessly, sounding bad and burning calories" = the way I play drums to a TEE

nickalicious is a keyboarder (nickalicious), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Or maybe the music critic!

*burp*

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Case in point. It's a well-documented fact that most clubs, even the seedier ones, provide a hospitality section for critics, stocked with Flim Flam, Mike & Ikes, and corn dogs.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

And 8-year-old virgin donkeys, ripe for a fisting.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

and that's why [name of bigshot rock critic] hated your favourite band's performance: The Flim Flam was stale and the donkey was drunk.

i hate fat people. they just annoy me and none of the people in the bands i know are fat.

CAss (CAss), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

the only muscles that get sore after playing the drums--even after a long session--are the ones on the lower part of my legs, due to trying to do crazy shit on the kick drum.

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 18:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Oops - yeah, me too, especially since I don't play rock or metal that regularly anymore. Oh, and my split knuckle from a missed cymbal choke.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 18:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Cass obviously only knows people in the indie rock 'scene'.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 18:32 (twenty-one years ago)

indie rock????????? are you insane....loser...obviously you dont know what i like so dont bother trying to guess

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Atkins-Rock!

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

its not my genre that is fat free its just none of the bands i listen to have fat people in them and generally they annoy me

CAss (CAss), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 18:51 (twenty-one years ago)

what if the fat dude's parents were married?

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

(That's Michael Bland btw, he was Prince's drummer for awhile).

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

(He doesn't get up from the drum stool on setbreaks. Possibly because he's fat or pondering his parentage.)

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 19:02 (twenty-one years ago)

now that i think about it virtually all my favorite drummers were/are fat. almost makes me wanna hang up my sticks, cause what chance does a skinny white boy have at become a great (non-indie) drummer? What was that dude who played in the Headhunters? Mike Clark?

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 19:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm thinking loads of punk bands must have hefty drummers and CAss is on crack or sommat.

a) indeed, loads of [punk] bands have hefty drummers
b) whether or not she is on crack, CAss is a fucktard

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

thats the first time ive seen someone use that word who doesnt know me. why am i a fucktard?

CAss (CAss), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh man. That exchange is a treasure.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

why am i a fucktard?

Do you actually read anything you post?

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah.im asking you a question?

CAss (CAss), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 21:41 (twenty-one years ago)

CAss, all you ever do is call people out for "not knowing you." On this thread alone you've called someone a loser for making a joke and declared "I hate fat people." You're knee-jerk, not interesting, pissy and not willing to engage in any kind of serious discussion. In short, you act like a twatty 17 year-old girl.

Someone calls you a name and you jump all over it like you can't believe it. I bet I'm not the only one who doesn't care for you regardless of whether or not I know you.

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 21:45 (twenty-one years ago)

okay your right. sorry everyone whom i pissed off. im being serious?
what is a knee jerk?

CAss (CAss), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

it's a dance step, similar to the "Cool Jerk" that the Go Go's sang about.

Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 6 May 2004 13:18 (twenty-one years ago)

why am i the reason? are you fat?

CAss (CAss), Thursday, 6 May 2004 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the dude upthread whose name is close to mine. Perhaps I should put on a couple pounds and find rhythm.

Ive noticed an absence of love for this gentleman from the sountrack of our lives. He wears a fucking robe for christ's sake:

I dunno... does tearing other people down and making them feel like shit make you feel superior? 'cause all the insensitive, prejudicial comments in the world aren't going to change the fact you're an idiotic fuckwit.

Now go away. Go be a little bitch troll on your own damn thread.
