Of some kind, surely?

In his genre, yes. He has such energy and enthusiasm. What puzzles me is, what was he doing before "Local Heroes"? Was this his tv presenting debut, or have I just been very unobservant?

he has written science text books and stuff that was telly based -- progs for schools and colleges sort of things.

definitely a God. it's so good to finally see programmes about history, science, engineering etc which are presently in both an exciting and intelligent way.

he's the Matthew Collings of weird old stuff, I like him. His slight sense of outrafe at the raunchy antics of randy victorians was cool.

i think Local Heroes is slightly better than What The Victorians Did For Us, but both are, ahem, GRATE!

Yes, one of the old school of TV eccentrics in the vein of Magnus Pyke and Jack Hargreeves that appeared to be dying out at one point, replaced by all those mini Jamie Theakstons with scrunchy hair and short-sleeve shirts. But now, with the sudden profusion of history programmes all the dusty old professor types are being wheeled out again.
So we got the Henry VIII obsessed Dr David Starkey, the twitchy Simon Sharma, the day-glo Adam Hart-Davies, that bloke who tries to single- handedly re-create battles by running down a field in a helmet and now Dan Cruickshank on 'Fortress Britain'. All freakishly enthusing beyond the call of duty.
TV Gods all.

Has anyone watched the architecture programme yet? I think me and Mr Number5 caught it a couple of weeks ago, and it seemed rathergood, but I need to see it in more sober circumstances to be sure. Can't remember the name of the presenter but he's supposed to be the fat- tongue of buildings.

I AM YOUR ONE TRUE GOD!

Dear Mark

In answer to the question was Local Heroes Adam Hart-Davis first TV debut the answer is no. He used to appear on ITV presenting "On The Edge" a program very similar to Local Heroes.

Regards

Peter Thomas

AHD (as his fans seem to say) is a popular Googling choice it seems.
