Taking Sides: Traci Lords Vs Meryl Streep

We've seen that Meryl can act really well in a variety of movies - and she seems to gain an Oscar just by being on set - but Traci Lords can not only act but she's also conquered the world of porn in the past. Could Streep also be a big name porn star? Who knows! But as Lord has proven herself in two seperate entities surely she wins?

CRW (CRW), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 12:20 (twenty-one years ago)

She's also made a techno album, so she like, TOTALLY wins.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 12:26 (twenty-one years ago)

if by techno you mean rubbish then yes

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes but on the cover she has two heads.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

we're better than this

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 12:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw T.L. at a party once. She was stunning, despite everything.

Skottie, Wednesday, 5 May 2004 12:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Despite her having two heads, you mean?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Did you ask her to sign one of her old videos? I hear she gets upset at that.

CRW (CRW), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't talk to her. I don't talk to anybody with two heads. I wouldn't have talked to Richard E. Grant in "How to Succeed in Advertising" either. It's just a rule I have. Call me crazy.

Skottie, Wednesday, 5 May 2004 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I got the impression that as she was underage when she made them, she brought the porm world to a standstill and they all hated her for it.

Or is she back doing it again? (Like I care)

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 12:47 (twenty-one years ago)

i like her as much as jordan (a LOT!)

jesus nathalie (nathalie), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 13:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Still, T.L.'s underage pron performances don't hold a candle to Meryl's. Smokin......!!!! Actually, maybe it's not a candle they're holding...

Skottie, Wednesday, 5 May 2004 13:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw a Traci Lords film once. She got two heads in that

..., Wednesday, 5 May 2004 13:09 (twenty-one years ago)

as well as oral sex? blimey

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I heard Jordan on the radio this morning. She sounded kind of awesome.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 13:12 (twenty-one years ago)

*stunned silence*

ILX, Wednesday, 5 May 2004 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I am two degrees of sexual seperation from Ms. Lords.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 13:18 (twenty-one years ago)

*incredulous silence*

ILX, Wednesday, 5 May 2004 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I am two degrees of sexual seperation from Ms. Lords.
-- Colin

you went to high-school with her colonic irrigator right?

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

A gentleman never irrigates and tells, but no.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

So, you slept with a girl who slept with a guy who slept with the Prince of Wales, yeah?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Something like that. It's all John Waters' fault, really.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

really?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

well, that seems to have filled in three names...

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Traci Lords was almost Kylie.

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Or do I mean that Kylie was almost Traci Lords?

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Me-->?-->John Waters-->Prince Charles-->?-->Traci Lords.

That's not at all how it went, but wouldn't it be fun to try to fill in the remaining gaps?

Colin Meeder (Mert), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Surely that's what John Waters does!

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

George Lucas and Rush Limbaugh. No, wait.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

This is a hard one.

Rockist Scientist, Wednesday, 5 May 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, given that neither I nor John Waters is bisexual, you'd need at least one more "?" in there -- and, like, I'm totally closer to Traci than that.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Me-->?-->John Waters-->Traci Lords.

allegedly.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I actually know Kevin Bacon's dad, so I'm sure its a short leap from me to Traci Lords.

Oh, and they are both klassic!

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

arr

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

A guy at uni had one of Traci's, ahem, hardcore epics. I vaguely remember her being taken roughly in front of a pool whilst she performed a lewd and indicent act on another blonde at the same time.

Don't know why she's so ashamed.

CRW (CRW), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

poo arse

Mrs Pashmina (Pashmina), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't know why she's so ashamed.
But the guy from uni should be. All of Traci Lords movies (except, the last one or two of them) had to be reclassified as child porn because she was under-aged when she made them.
Or at least thats the legend. So, in essence, the guy from uni is a paedo.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Depends - Traci's films are legally available in Europe and South America where the age of consent for this material is actually 16. The guy in question was from Belgium and the movie freely available as a result.

CRW (CRW), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Traci sings on Little Baby Nothing.

Meryl wins.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 16:11 (twenty-one years ago)

ha ha

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

yes.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

i now realise that's what Madchen was referring to

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Something like that. It's all John Waters' fault, really.

Is Brook Yeaton tangled up in this somewhere?

Lee G (Lee G), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

You Manics haters, you can all eat my fuc.

allyzay, Wednesday, 5 May 2004 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I know better, but I'll take the opportunity to point out that Meryl Streep in Manhattan is like the best-looking person in the history of the universe.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Crap. The City Paper editor who knows too much just showed up. My mouth is now shut forever. (Obviously you're OTM, Lee.)

Charles Taylor reviews Karina Longworth's Streep book, not holding back:

“Streep now provides a higher-brow version of the kind of bald scenery chewing that Joan Crawford and Susan Hayward specialized in. But unlike those paragons of masochism, Streep doesn’t suffer or go nuts. Rather, Streep has managed to channel the tastelessness of her showboating grotesquerie into middlebrow vehicles like Doubt and [August: Osage County], which come to the screen with the cachet of acclaimed stage shows, or the Margaret Thatcher biopic The Iron Lady, whose cachet is political and historical. No one need be embarrassed watching a Streep performance—though, by God, she should be.”

Wonder if Calum ever thinks of his old troll threads and shudders with embarassment. He really should.
