I have one spare ticket free of charge. Anyone who fancies it mail me at the address below. Apparently they are very good indeed live.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 6 May 2004 07:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooh. I would, but have a dinner date with some editors.

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 6 May 2004 08:25 (twenty-one years ago)

You boys are going on a date now.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 6 May 2004 08:27 (twenty-one years ago)

*blush*

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 6 May 2004 08:32 (twenty-one years ago)

When I had a spare ticket to the Fiery Furnaces a couple of months ago, NOBODY took me up on my offer! Is MDC so much more of a hawttt date? : (

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Thursday, 6 May 2004 08:37 (twenty-one years ago)

You were ahead of the game, Jerry. Cutting edge, and now the followers are doing their following thing.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 6 May 2004 08:38 (twenty-one years ago)

i just like milling around in an old porno cinema

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 6 May 2004 08:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I imagine it was personal, Jerry. Is this what was on Friendster?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Thursday, 6 May 2004 08:46 (twenty-one years ago)

For what its worth Jerry, I'd have taken you up on that offer like a shot if I'd heard the album at the time.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 6 May 2004 08:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I got the ticket on Friendster, then was promptly stood up by JtN :)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 6 May 2004 08:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah good, now Stevem has his date with Matt and can stop claiming to be broken and being weird at Colette and me! Hah!

Super-Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 May 2004 08:59 (twenty-one years ago)

What Mr DC said. I only bought the album a couple of weeks ago.

Ricardo (RickyT), Thursday, 6 May 2004 09:00 (twenty-one years ago)

In my defence, I had a hawttt date of my own that nite, YMOF :)

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Thursday, 6 May 2004 09:02 (twenty-one years ago)

YMOF - Your Mother's Older Friend

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Thursday, 6 May 2004 09:14 (twenty-one years ago)

kate i can practically SMELL your disappointment

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 6 May 2004 09:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Steve - inside the main concourse at King's X at about 7.45 good for you?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 6 May 2004 09:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Fiery Furnaces session on 6 Music Right Now This Minute.

I can't see what all the fuss is about.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Thursday, 6 May 2004 09:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Matt, how about outside the Scala itself at 7.47?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 6 May 2004 09:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Done.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 6 May 2004 09:43 (twenty-one years ago)

yay. matt, make sure you comfort poor stevem and he ends up not broken for saturday. otherwise i'll have to push him in the sea.

and have fun.

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 6 May 2004 10:00 (twenty-one years ago)

That's not disappointment. That's coconut Body Butter, my dear.

Super-Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 May 2004 10:12 (twenty-one years ago)

i'd have thought you were buttery enough chook

(i'm not sure what that means either)

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 6 May 2004 10:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you trying to butter me up, eh? etc. etc.

Super-Kate (kate), Thursday, 6 May 2004 11:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Would I like FF's? They sound interesting. Would someone who knows what I like like to tell me if they're the sort thing I'd like?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 6 May 2004 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I think they're the sort of thing you'd like.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 6 May 2004 13:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Does somebody not like them?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 6 May 2004 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm indifferent so far, tho i've only heard one song and can't remember how it goes

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 6 May 2004 13:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I wasn't that impressed when I saw them. I liked one song.

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 6 May 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

You are both Vladimir Putin.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 6 May 2004 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought they were rubbish when they played at Rough Trade's 25th Birthday thingum, but then I got the album about two weeks ago and I must say I'm quite sold on them. Singer's shagging Alex Kapranos apparently. Awww, indie bliss.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 6 May 2004 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

The second half of the album is very fine indeed (I'm listening to The Rub Alcohol Blues right now). Would Dr C like them? Maybe.

Ricardo (RickyT), Thursday, 6 May 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

they didn't pause between songs, AT ALL, it was like one continuous song. they were ok at times but the swirling organ is maybe too gimmicky?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 6 May 2004 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

You can never have too much swirly organ! They turned Inca Rag into this insane sped-up organ pop ska thing, it sounds rubbish but sounded great.

I thought they were fantastic - not a second wasted on stage, all songs played really fast and with totally different arrangements = I like. The best bit was after Steve left and they dropped everything down to the drums and then the bassline from Don't Dance Her Down came in and it was like a house anthem dropping in the middle of a great DJ set. But totally different.

Also the singer has real stage presence - I've no idea why considering she doesn't really do much onstage and is fairly ordinary looking - I think its The Voice that does it.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 7 May 2004 07:11 (twenty-one years ago)

"Fiery"? "King's Cross"? Sickos.

Porto... cicadas... 1987?

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Friday, 7 May 2004 07:49 (twenty-one years ago)

RickyT, I refuse to believe they have a song called The Rub Alcohol Blues. Although I WISH they did, not enough songs have been written about MD 20/20.

Sarah still sans memory, Friday, 7 May 2004 07:52 (twenty-one years ago)

They do! It's true!

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 7 May 2004 07:55 (twenty-one years ago)

They finished with The Rub Alcohol Blues last night, it was great, the one slow moment in the whole set. It wass weird how she went from looking really fiery and strong to kind of ill frail and shaky during that song alone. I might have been imagining this.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 7 May 2004 07:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish I'd gone now :(

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 7 May 2004 08:01 (twenty-one years ago)

i wish i'd gone, too. i thinks that's 5 times i've intended to see them now, and no times that i've actually gone.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 7 May 2004 08:54 (twenty-one years ago)

(Steve left half way through, the wasteful oik that he is)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 7 May 2004 08:57 (twenty-one years ago)

but i made it to work only 3 minutes late today

stevem (blueski), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:00 (twenty-one years ago)
