Where are y'all celebrating? Will you be costumed, and if so, what are you wearing?

suzy, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

New answers trick-or-treat.

I will be bobbing for apples at a private view and party for the fashion photographer David Sims and the designer Raf Simons. I will be impersonating a fashionista as usual.

suzy, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am being posh. I am going to a ball at the London Dungeon. I don't know what I'm going to wear. My gel is going to wear a vampy red dress, so I thought I'd put on a top hat and we could be "Undertaker And Wife Of The Deceased". Anyone got any ideas? I am hopeless at this sort of thing.

Sam, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going to Sarah and Lixi's and will be dressed as a Groke. But that's not tonight. Tonight I will be confronting something very scary i.e. my kitchen bin.

Tom, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going to worship at the shrine of St Thomas. 9ish at the Spitz if anyone is interested...

Andrew Williams, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm gonna go as a ghost but my sheet will have 3 holes... 2 for my eyes, 1 for my cock

chaki, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

it's halloween night here & i am sitting in my room in semi darkness smoking pot & listening to Black Sabbath. am i wearing a costume? yeah i'm wearing pyjamas & a machine gun bullet belt.

duane, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Friday will be the first time my suit has been worn in about 2 years, I will be going as a capitalist pig vampire.

chris, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am going as La Señora Loca del Tigre!

I shall be dragging around Greg and Grr Arrgh (our flats resident tigers) on a string and wearing a tiger mask. The rest of the outfit I shall not name here for your immense amusement come Friday and also the fact that I will be looking HUGELY AMUSING. It involves a black rah-rah skirt worn in an "unusual manner".

Sarah, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I shall be there as someone sober.

Fancy.

Tim, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I went to fuel, looked at the pretty costumes. Then I went to arc, looked at the pretty videos. Now I am at home, tired and grumpy watching a James Bond film. I think I want to find a heater and some chocolate

Menelaus Darcy, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i was planning a big do but unlless David has been palnning behind my back ....

anthony, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am going to see Carrie at the Prince Charles today.

My costume is Angel Hello Kitty but I can't find white cat ears, sob.

rosemary, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I was thinking I should be Steve from Blue's Clues. He's the coolest.

bnw, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I found lots of black cat ears in the Party Shop in Clapham, but sadly no white ones :( I can only think of maybe painting them or making yr own ones out of some white card?

Sarah, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

A lot of people here like Halloween because it gives them the chance to wear something a little different, (but appropriate for a porn flick and the same as everyone else), case point the squadron of nurses. One of the more amusing costumes I saw was a pumpkin. There really were not that many excting ones out when I was. What were the best costumes everyone else saw?

Menelaus Darcy, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

A guy who went as a Christian (i.e. Hypocrite). He had a placard on with "Jesus Saves" on the front and *really* dodgy Japanese manga porn (of the girl-growing-enormous-penis-and-shooting-out-huge- sausages-of-shit-everywhere variety).

Can anyone explain this sort of porn to me?

toraneko, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Kodanshi?

Tom, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd love to follow Jerry's lead (this is one of the coolest things you are likely to see today I think)

Jonnie, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have no plans. I HAVE NO PLANS!!!! AAAAAh.

No eh seriously though I don't. So you're all welcome to come over to Dublin and see me sober at Halloween for the first time since I was 14 or something.

Actually no, I'll find something, anything, to do.

Ronan, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i'll be doing what i do every halloween i happen to be alone...curling with a stack of old swamp things and a burrito the size of my FOREARM.

jess, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll be at the AMM gig at the Warehouse. Feel free to say hi, or just poke the bald guy in the track suit (ie me.)

Dave M., Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Celebrating? I'll be celebrating by looking at bloody FLATS because the sooner I find a place of my own, the sooner I get the Nightmare Ex out of my life. What I WISH I was doing was going to see Clinic.

kate, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't think I have evr done anything for halloween, roll on bonfire night, that's what I say. In which case it will be the fatcat (best vegetarian pub food 2001) guy fawkes barbecue, where I shall be celebrating the traditional burning of regicidal catholics with an organic burger and a few pints of landlord

Ed, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I will assist in the candy-giving process (assuming any rugrats swing on by to the Love Shack for some Snickers and Reese's), and watch the Diamondbacks start Miguel Bautista (in lieu of Curt Schilling, one of their BEST PITCHERS, hello - apologies to the AK Slang Corp.) and blow Game 4 of the World Series. Somewhere in there, I'll do some usual stuff (exercise, eat, write, fumigate).

I wish I had a stack of Swamp Things to read, tho. However, there is that From Hell book...

David Raposa, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i don't do halloween

Geoff, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

We're going to our favorite local dive bar for their costume contest. Hank and I are a bloodied zombie doctor and nurse this year.

This past weekend he played a halloween show in Austin and the best costume I saw there was a couple dressed as Kurt and Courtney. Kurt had a bullet hole in his forehead, messy brains on the back of his wig and a t-shirt that said "I Hate Courtney." They both had styrofoam guitars and Courtney's said "I Love Kurt" on it. They were great.

Hank's favorite costume was a guy who covered himself head to toe in duct tape. ouch.

Samantha, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

On tour with Stereo Total, we have our only day off on Halloween. And we're stuck in Cleveland. Fucking Cleveland.

I've talked the band into driving an hour west to the little gazebo college town of Oberlin, Ohio, where there's a super-lesbian arts college. We will see many 'witches' there, ho ho ho.

Momus, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

From the kids' book The Stupids Die:

"This isn't Heaven, this is Cleveland!"

suzy, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I will be sitting at home. This Friday, however, I may be going to a Pimp 'N Ho party. ROCKROCKROCKROCKROCK!!!!

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I love Halloween, but have zero plans. I'm sure I'll do what I've been doing for weeks; sit at home, make dinner, listen to a couple records, go to bed by 9:30 or 10:00. I guess the fact that I have almost no friends is to blame. I'm actually thinking about going to see the kind of doctor that can prescribe Zoloft or Prozac or something. Life is just so grey and dull. What I'm most scared of is I'm starting to like that Placebo record.

Sean, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm sorry Sean. If you were in our area I'd invite you out with us!

Samantha, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm DJing a Halloween party tonight in aforementioned Tweety bird costume... Wish me luck.

Brian MacDonald, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

what's really, truly frightening is that sean has basically described my life for the last several months almost exactly. except for the part about the placebo record. :) but i do totally feel where you're coming from.

(add to the fact that nancy's going to some hopped-up drag queen halloween party at her damn hippy school, and i won't even have anyone to share my favorite holiday with on the phone.)

jess, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

With friends at Karen's place, having a great ol' time carving pumpkins and doing silly fun and distributing sweets. The remainder of this week is full of concerts and visiting friends from the UK. This is the type of week I want to share with all of you, but you people all have the audacity to live and work somewhere else. Bastards!

Which reminds me -- Arthur, if you're reading this, what the hell is your upcoming schedule?

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm in class this evening.

james, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned-Oh, I think I'll be sitting around my apartment perfecting my "World's Most Glamorous 40-Year-Old Slacker" routine. I need a job very badly--all the mistletoe work has dried up. But let's get together sometime in the coming weeks. I really need to meet an IL*er in the flesh, so I can ditch this preposterous online nice guy facade and get all bitchy and in your face. ; ) Hey Sean, you should come down here, we can have a T. Rex pow wow. I've got a microwave for your cd melting party, what fun we'll have! Except you don't have any cds, Sean. Speaking of which, I have a couple of Tyrannosaurus Rex records I could give you to cheer you up, as I'm not *that* much of a vinyl fetishist. They're not in the best of shape, though.

So, Halloween. I used to know a drag queen who'd rail against the holiday--"Halloween's for amateurs, honey!" That's me! I was gonna go out as Allan Carr but I couldn't get it together to buy a new caftan. And how do I make a convincing wired jaw contraption? I might go to Akbar in Silverlake for the hell of it, just to look at the costumes. The Butthole Surfers are playing at the Knitting Factory, wish I was going. Oh well, another lonely Halloween. At least it's in the middle of the week, so the pressure's off somewhat.

Arthur, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Aw, thanks Arthur. Actually I do own CDs, just prefer LPs. And of course I have the entire T. and Tyrannosaurus Rex catalog already. If you make it up to San Francisco, look me up.

Sean, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm giving up my original plans due to rain and tiredness and instead will kick it watching the game at the bar. Maybe Belzer will be there again.

Ally, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If you make it up to San Francisco, look me up.

Actually, I'll be there myself briefly both December and January around holidays. Hmm...

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

*after checking calendars*

Yeah, actually I should be available December 26 in SF for the evening (I'm also there the 23rd, but that's already been booked with a couple of friends :-)). Small ILx get-together, anyone?

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'ts gonna be pretty small; I think I'm the only SF IL*er. But sure, I've gotta meet the moderator of the Sparks and T. Rex discussion lists! Email me around the holidays for sure.

Sean, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Rock, etc. More details as they emerge...

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No plans. I'm going to sit at home and hand out candy with one of my friends. I am not taking my costume off until I absolutely have to because I love it. I am a tart decked out like a Christmas tree.

Maria, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

But the get together on the 23rd is supposed to be with me and Ramon, isn't it? And...Brian? I forget exactly who but if it's just one person and it's a person as swank as Sean I don't see why we shouldn't have him come along on the 23rd!

Ally, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ally, you're going to be in SF on the 23rd??

Sean, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Seems most imminent, me and Ramon are going to be in the Bay Area for Christmas, almost 100% certain.

Ally, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, I didn't know if you wanted to keep it low-key, Ally! Thus my circumspection, since I hadn't talked to you about it yet. :-) But if you're not minding, then yes, why not? Wasn't trying to keep anything secret, Sean, I just wasn't sure of everyone else's preference! Brian won't mind at all, I'm sure.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well this sounds just lovely. And with 2 of my favorite IL*ers, too! Just let me know as the date approaches...

Sean, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Will do -- fired off some private mail just now to y'all, so we'll work this out!

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Perhaps this is just the two-martini-style-drinks-with-no-food-in- stomach talking (BTW, a recipe for a fantastic drink: 3 parts Absolut Mandarin + 1 part vermout + splash of Midori + Splash of Peachtree) but I'm all whiny and mopey because people are getting together and I'm not gonna be there. Sigh whine etc.

Posting while drunk = LIBERATION! Soon I will burn my bra. If I wore a bra. Don't mind me, I'm an idiot. Etc...

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You can come to the party at Hampshire College if you want, Dan. Of course, it'll suck but never you mind that.

Ally, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

When's the party? Tonight?

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Friday.

Ally, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ARGH. That's when I'm supposed to go to the Pimp 'N Ho party! Whatever shall I do?

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have just discovered that the bonfire night display Isabel and I will be going to on Saturday also boasts a PIG AUCTION!

Tom, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Pig auction = wacky fun for the whole family!

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Walking thru angel earlier tooday I found myself surrounded by tots in masks, inc.one pore gal in a v.rubbish "witch" thing. First thought = "Pah behold the commodification of Halloween…" Second = "MY STREAM OF CONSCIOUSNESS IS INHABITED BY FREDERIC JAMESON! SHOOT ME NOW!"

Next I will be saying Xmas is too commercial and materialistic these days.

mark s, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah 'cause have they always made a big deal of hallowe'en in the UK? here in NZ it has only been promoted to a big commercial occasion relatively recently - didn't used to have kids trick-or-treating or any of that stuff until, I dunno, within the last 10 yrs.?

Fuck commodification of important meaningless pagan festivals!
