RFI: LP/12" mailers - BIG envelopes

Where can I buy LP mailers and stiffeners (AKA big record-sized envelopes and bits of card) in London (or Reading or Slough) without recourse to mail order? The postage and packing costs more than the items themselves in some cases, which strikes me as crazy, crazy, mental shit when dealing with postage and packing items anyway.

Then watch me flog my five or six records.

You could get a roll of kraft paper (nice and tough) from a stationery shop (Paperchase should do this stuff not too expensively) and use boxes that you can pick up in supermarkets cut up as stiffeners. Probably easier than getting proper record-size envelopes.

Thank you, Liz. I don't know whether this might be frowned upon by the hardcore record-buying community though. What do members of the hardcore record-buying community think?

I think I have a couple at home - shall I post them to you?

Perhaps I could put records inside to stiffen them up.

liz' suggestion is fine - as long as the package has at least one decent bit of stiff cardboard the record will be ok. if it's particularly rare maybe wrap some bubblewrap around it underneath the heavy paper.

Pickerings paper and board in sheffield make the one for WARP recods and many other mail order people.

Thanks Dave, but that would kind of defeat the object. And I haven't got a record player (famously). Mind you, I bet there are a few things in your Trunk of Prog that would really stiffen them up.

I knew Liz would be right, I only pretended to have doubts. Honest.

Sheffield will rise again.

There are some Stiff Records in there too.

Of course. I am always right*

If you buy bubblewrap as well you can have fun popping it while you're supposed to be packing records!

*maybe not

You can get 12" mailers and stiffeners from Sister Ray on Berwick St.

Just cut up a box, they're not all that delicate. I mailorder records all the time and it suits me fine.

ebay's a good source for mailers/jiffy bags.

And card stiffeners and all that.

There's another supplier called "Climacz" which will make your postman interested...

one year passes...

I really love the over-sized LP mailers that Amazon often seem to send records in.

The LP is held in a central portion with a couple of flaps, but the overall size is much larger, eliminating corner damage, but they're really thin and neat. They seem absolutely superior to standard 12'' mailers or pizza-box constructions.

Does anyone know the kind I mean?

More importantly, is there anywhere I could bulk buy those for my own LP mailing? I am in the UK.
