What the hell were these people thinking?

Michael White (Hereward), Thursday, 6 May 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, you seriously don't even want to know.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 6 May 2004 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Who is the niche demographic this is aimed at? Adolescent serial murderers? Dogs? Jerry? Itchy? (Or is it Scratchy?)

Michael White (Hereward), Thursday, 6 May 2004 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Let's just say Ford has a very skewed notion of the kind of vehicle Generation Y would like. Their market research is weird.

Some stuff about it at snopes -

JimD (JimD), Thursday, 6 May 2004 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks JimD, that's where I got it. I'm just mystifed by the thinking (sic) process here.

Michael White (Hereward), Thursday, 6 May 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Well hey, I'd never heard of the sportka, and possibly never would have, until this.

I can't drive anyway though.

JimD (JimD), Thursday, 6 May 2004 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Thank you for taking part in Ford's 'viral marketing'.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 6 May 2004 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Good point. Any publicity is good, eh?

Michael White (Hereward), Thursday, 6 May 2004 17:01 (twenty-one years ago)

what is the pigeon clip that they mention?

Davel (Davel), Friday, 7 May 2004 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw that evil sportka ad in Face Magazine and I thought it was a joke. Then I wondered who the hell they were marketing at, and then I just thought that the world should end

Menelaus Darcy (Menelaus Darcy), Friday, 7 May 2004 11:31 (twenty-one years ago)

More adverts should feature evil, sentient automobiles decapitating domestic animals. I want to see a Bentley strangle a panda with its seatbelts.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Friday, 7 May 2004 11:35 (twenty-one years ago)

recently there was a documentary on generation next here in NZ - same thing as generation y? What do generation y like? are they all boring conservative arseholes who (at the age of 25) claim to have grown up with text messaging, cant live without it etc etc. Tell me where I fit in...

Menelaus Darcy (Menelaus Darcy), Friday, 7 May 2004 11:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I found the Pigeon clip at the adress below:

"Viral marketing" sux0r. What kind of fucking idiot thought of such a concept & thought it worthwhile anyway?

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 7 May 2004 11:43 (twenty-one years ago)

The sort of cnuts I used to work for! They heard about this "internet viral marketing" thing, decided it was great, and asked us all to forward spammails about their clients to every on in ourboxes. (Utterly and spectacularly missing the point of what "viral marketing" was.) I thought that was shite and put a stop to it at the mail server level.
