Since there's been so much PE/gym talk lately where we limn our athletic incompetence/triumphs.

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll play the 1 or the 2!

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Put me in the five, I'll be Ben Wallace without the talent. (aka Danny Fortson)

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

At my last job, the one with the troubled kids, I had eight-year-olds taking pity on me and offering me do-overs because my from-the-field percentage was so horrible

damn I hate me some basketball

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought it had been established that dodgeball was the official sport of ILX.

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

man I've been totally jonesin' for a good pick-up b-ball game. A couple weeks ago me, my best friend, and this Canadian guy who showed up at the courts at the exact right time absolutely schooled these 18-19 yr old punks. I had like 5 block shots. They kept complaining, saying that my arms were too long. I'm only 6 foot! and I can't jump for shit, their shots were just really easy to anticipate.

oops (Oops), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I always hated basketball because the gym teacher expected me to be a great player simply because I was the tallest girl in class, but I have no coordination --- no amount of yelling at me or making me practice making shots was going to change that.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:20 (twenty-one years ago)

kickball is truly what we need.

Ian Johnson (orion), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Americans don't use their feet e.g. "foot"ball.

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Game On! I'll take Strongo, Miccio, Nickalicious, and a player to be named.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:58 (twenty-one years ago)

On the basis that I am taller than an NBA star (Muggsy Bogues), I assume I will be a really good player. Perhaps I should try playing it some day.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 6 May 2004 21:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh god, I'm going to be picked last again.

xpost

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Thursday, 6 May 2004 21:00 (twenty-one years ago)

A few years ago I played pick-up with a Brit acquaintance of mine who had literally never touched a basketball before. He wasn't much of an offensive threat (understatement), but as an ex-footie player he was a very good defender.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Thursday, 6 May 2004 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

re: defense, it's all about footwork (and keeping your center of gravity closer to the ground to maximize your mobility) -- since I had a similar experience the other way around (me the "baller" playing soccer in PE).

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Thursday, 6 May 2004 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

height is no indicator of basketball prowess. trust me.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 6 May 2004 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

PE was a harsh mistress.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 6 May 2004 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I was crushed under her bootheel.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 6 May 2004 21:07 (twenty-one years ago)

You mean that being 5'7 doesn't guarantee I'll be terrific?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 6 May 2004 21:07 (twenty-one years ago)

HA HA LITTLE MAN

i play basketball like jerry lewis

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 6 May 2004 21:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I play basketball like Gerry Jewel.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 6 May 2004 21:08 (twenty-one years ago)

not like jewel?

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 6 May 2004 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 6 May 2004 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 6 May 2004 21:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I want Jéanne Füry on my team as well, because that is a ballin' name (so to speak). Though even better would be BerJéanne. Ber- makes everything better.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Thursday, 6 May 2004 21:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Who's got shirts? Who's got skins?

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Thursday, 6 May 2004 21:28 (twenty-one years ago)

girls (skins) vs boys (shirts)

Ian Johnson (orion), Thursday, 6 May 2004 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

cause then we could see their knockers, right? oh man you are a genius!

oops (Oops), Thursday, 6 May 2004 21:46 (twenty-one years ago)

hey that was mean!

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 6 May 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

hey, i love tits.

Ian Johnson (orion), Thursday, 6 May 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

haha i just went out and played for a bit--like crap

but no one referred to me as "ostertag" or "big country" so we'll call it even

mookieproof (mookieproof), Thursday, 6 May 2004 22:44 (twenty-one years ago)

The acme of my basketball "prowess" was 8th grade, where I scored 20 points in a game to win the championship for my team. This would be more impressive if a) our best player (who went on to be a pro football quarterback) hadn't been triple- and quadruple-teamed for most of the game; b) if I had ever scored more than 7 points in any game before or after, before blowing out my knee sophomore year as a rarely-used substitute; c) if we hadn't had a super-easy schedule, totally romping all over smaller/shorter/country-er schools' teams in an unfair manner.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Friday, 7 May 2004 02:08 (twenty-one years ago)

well, i think we know who's headed to europe as a talent scout then!

rgeary (rgeary), Friday, 7 May 2004 02:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a skyhook that would make Jabbar proud.

Joe Jabbar

uh (eetface), Friday, 7 May 2004 02:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I once scored 37 points in a game and would've scored more if I hadn't been thrown out. I was hacked right in front of the ref and didn't get the call so I looked at him and said "what the fuck was that?". There were still about 6 minutes left in the 4th quarter.

Bryan (Bryan), Friday, 7 May 2004 03:19 (twenty-one years ago)
