Friday night:

anyone for Thai Tom? This is where you shout out.

Saturday afternoon until ????:

yes, a "house party" at my place.
We will be getting delivery food from many choices of pizza establishments (Pagliacci's being the most recommended as I got a sweet coupon from them the other day) and also Chilles Thai Cuisine delivery.
I have plenty of records, and you can come and spin if you'd like (I have a typical DJ 2-turntable set up). Bring your own records if you like.

I'll provide beers. (make your requests now) The only hard stuff I have that's still good is Godiva's White Chocolate Liqeur, and maybe some Malibu coconut rum. Otherwise, bring any hard stuff you'd like.

Let this be an icebreaker to the Seattle ILxors who have not met each other yet.. or just let it be a time to hang out again.

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:41 (twenty-one years ago)

keep in mind that we'll have to split up into groups of three or four at Thai Tom as the place is tiny. So don't necessary come with an totally empty stomach.. there will likely be a wait. I was thinking earlier in the evening, like 6 or 7pm (yup, when it's still bright out) because I don't want to imagine what the line will be like later.

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

*scrapes together pennies for red-eye flight*

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

count me in. this has been hell-week at work, so it'll be good to break away from that for awhile.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Thursday, 6 May 2004 21:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Crap. I really do want to meet the other Seattle-ilxors, but I can't make these. Friday I can't get out until around 9:30 or so and Saturday I have a birthday party to attend at Emerald Downs. That's right. Birthday party at the track. Classiest birthday part ever.

I'll keep hope alive that I'll get to a FAP soon.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Thursday, 6 May 2004 21:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, so i gather so far:

Friday: myself, Matos
Saturday: myself

(btw, Scott, the Saturday deal is pretty much all afternoon and night. it's a swing by whenever you can type of thing. no RSVP necessary if you're already an ilxer type, but it's up to you)

Anyone interested in either or both, email me at d o n u t b i z i t c h @ h o t m a i l , thank you

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 6 May 2004 23:47 (twenty-one years ago)

i would come if i, you know, lived there.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 6 May 2004 23:51 (twenty-one years ago)

well yes, Saturday too.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Friday, 7 May 2004 00:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm. Sign me up for Saturday. I'm gonna see if I can get someone to work my early morning Sunday shift. I'm not at all choosy about beers, just no Mac n Jacks please. I got one hell of hangover from that. I steer clear of the hard liquor, too, btw. "Bring your own records", now that's a mighty nice host! I had a friend who always wanted me to DJ or take over for him DJing but he always expected me to do it with HIS records. Which was fine to a point, but after say, 6 hours...

bimble (bimble), Friday, 7 May 2004 02:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't worry bimble, I don't think you can buy Mac 'n' Jacks at the store (or I would have a much worse drinking problem). Donut, I will e-mail you re: Sat.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Friday, 7 May 2004 02:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Mac N' Jacks has been nothing but pleasant in my experiences. The only bad beer drinking experience I've ever had was with Rolling Rock, which is sad, because it was the first mass produced beer I fell in love with.

Anyway, my initial plan for beerage is basically Pyramid Hefeweizen (or some form of Hefeweizen), Dos Equis or Negro Modelo (some type of Mexican beer), and something in a single big bottle, like maybe Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale.

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 7 May 2004 03:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, and also Corona figured badly into my drinking past.. but that's only because I came down with a really nasty stomach flu later that night.. so, it was an association thing. (Then again, all avoidances of certain types of beer are either bad associations or carelessness on the drinker's part.. none of this namby pamby blame-it-on-the-beer shizit)

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 7 May 2004 03:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I disagree with that, actually. When I've only had two or three drinks and feel like I've had six, then I know something is wrong, and that's what happened to me with Mac n Jacks and a certain brand of Shiraz wine. Sure enough, a horrible hangover ensued. Some kinds of alcohol just have more impurities than others and according to an article I read in the newspaper last new year's, there's been at least one scientific study that says merely the impurities in alcoholic beverages can cause a bad hangover. Also, it may just depend on a certain person's chemical makeup: if you've not had problems with Mac and Jack's but I have...then? But most of the time, I don't have these problems.

Hail Samuel Smiths!!! But especially: Taddy Porter, Imperial Stout, Oatmeal Stout.

I like Guinness, too, but I get tired of it sometimes and haven't been on a trip with it lately. I've actually been drinking wine exclusively lately so any beer is fine, really. Pabst, Corona, Negro,
even Hefeweizen is fine. I have enjoyed Fat Tire in the past as well, despite my tendency towards dark beers.

bimble (bimble), Friday, 7 May 2004 04:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Those impurities are frickin delicious, whatever they are.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Friday, 7 May 2004 05:03 (twenty-one years ago)

well, the whole concept of drinking beer is somewhat impure anyway.. it's like drinking wood.

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 7 May 2004 05:15 (twenty-one years ago)

so much for going agast impurity... yoooza

ok, who's in...

oh maybe i should check donit wyyou know the fuckin email i posted above.. i check it now...

I gotta work Fri. (I know, I can't believe it either) but I'm all over Shatterday

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Friday, 7 May 2004 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Okee so far:

Friday (tonight) Thai Tom around 6pm or so:
myself, Matos, Ronny

Saturday party at my pad thingie:
myself, Matos, Bimble, Donna, (maybe Ronny)

I'm getting a haircut now, but I'll be back to check email at the bizitch address, make some phone calls, etc.

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 7 May 2004 19:11 (twenty-one years ago)

He's getting a haircut AS HE TYPES.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 7 May 2004 19:11 (twenty-one years ago)

DB sends his hair OUT.

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 7 May 2004 19:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, db, Jen & I are kinda planning to make the thai tom thing tonight... dunno about tomorrow though. We'll try to give you a call or catch you on IM or something today.

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 7 May 2004 19:41 (twenty-one years ago)

DB, did you get my email?

Scott CE (Scott CE), Friday, 7 May 2004 19:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Thai Tom = awesome. Not that I'll be there tonight, since I live in Ohio and have only been once, but I want to commend db on the excellent venue choice.

J (Jay), Friday, 7 May 2004 19:46 (twenty-one years ago)

scott, i'll respond to it now..

i just got home from haircut and some (sigh) impulse record buying...(Jive Time has Branca's "Lesson #1" on vinyl.. don't even ask me how much I paid for it. But at least I found T. Rex's "The Slider" deluxe 2CD used as well!)

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 7 May 2004 22:03 (twenty-one years ago)

ok, so for tonight:
myself, Matos, Ronny, Jen, Martin

This makes for five people. MAYBE we can convince the folks at Thai Tom to make a party of five, but we may have to break into 3 and 2, possibly. Hmmmmmmmmmmm

If we can scoop another couple of people before I leave for the place... then we can even out more to a multiple of 3 or 4.

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 7 May 2004 22:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Or maybe I should just sit my shiny new bleached head and ass here at home and sulk while you guys have the best fucking Thai food on the planet.

FUXXORS

;-)

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 7 May 2004 22:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Jive Time has Branca's "Lesson #1" on vinyl.. don't even ask me how much I paid for it.

How much did you pay for it?

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 7 May 2004 22:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Wait... did you just say your ass was shiny, new and bleached?

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 7 May 2004 22:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't ever underestimate the awesome first impression a shiny, new, bleached ass can make, martin.

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 7 May 2004 22:11 (twenty-one years ago)

First impression in your new chair or what?

PS there is a time-killing chat on now should you be so inclined

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 7 May 2004 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

what time is Thai Tom happening?

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Friday, 7 May 2004 22:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I was under the impression it was planned for 6-ish.

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 7 May 2004 22:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, I'm out - a very nasty sore throat that none of you will want to catch (although I bet the right Thai food would chase the germs right out of me).

Layna Andersen (Layna Andersen), Friday, 7 May 2004 22:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I had something the last three days myself, but all that's left of it is a little post-nasal drip.... which I'm definitely planning on chasing right out of my head when I order my shit all up at a "5" spicy level.

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 7 May 2004 22:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm plan to arrive at Thai Tom around 6pm.. however close the 31 bus can get me there.

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 7 May 2004 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

looks like i'll be there around 6:15pm... whoever gets there first try to ask if a party of five can be fit, and if not, then we'll figure something else out.

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 7 May 2004 22:34 (twenty-one years ago)

damn. I'm not sure I can make that; I've still gotta finish a piece before I head out.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Friday, 7 May 2004 22:40 (twenty-one years ago)

But at least I found T. Rex's "The Slider" deluxe 2CD used as well!

Nice. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 7 May 2004 22:41 (twenty-one years ago)

update: finished story, it's being edited now, looks like I'll be making it down after all, yay.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Friday, 7 May 2004 23:09 (twenty-one years ago)

rargh, i just got out of work. :-P to websites. (not ILX, just ones I work on, and the td nowrap table tag)

i will try to stop by tomorrow- I think I remember where you live, DB. :-)

lyra (lyra), Saturday, 8 May 2004 01:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't know there WAS a deluxe double CD of The Slider. [wondering what makes up the other half of it...]

bimble (bimble), Saturday, 8 May 2004 02:17 (twenty-one years ago)

If it's the Edsel issue from the midnineties, the second disc is Rabbit Fighter, containing a bit of a dog's breakfast of acoustic radio takes, basic demos, unreleased songs and other goods from the sessions.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 8 May 2004 02:22 (twenty-one years ago)

This is going to sound so silly. I'm not even much more than a casual T. Rex fan, but I've always had this fantasy of a Marc Bolan solo album that really ruled. Ned, does such a record really exist, or is this just an unfulfilled dream on my subconscious' part?

bimble (bimble), Saturday, 8 May 2004 04:05 (twenty-one years ago)

If it's the Edsel issue from the midnineties, the second disc is Rabbit Fighter, containing a bit of a dog's breakfast of acoustic radio takes, basic demos, unreleased songs and other goods from the sessions.

That be it!

(Mission Thai Tom a success! Followup ice cream mission The Mix an even greater success. Martin convinced everybody that the keyboard and guitar solos in The Doors' "Light My Fire" are the worst solos ever committed to tape -- solos fighting against each other to see which sucked more)

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 8 May 2004 04:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha!

There were Marc solo sessions recorded way the hell back in 1966 or so which have surfaced as a solo album of sorts in various repackagings since. Meanwhile, there are a slew of solo demos from over the years which have appeared in further collections. No straight up solo album ever recorded as such.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 8 May 2004 04:42 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, I already bought a shitload of beer for this ting on Saturday.. and will be buying more tomorrow morning... so come over and BEER YRSELVES FUXXORS ELSE I CALL YOU AND HARRASS YOU TO COME OVER TO DO SO!!!!!

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 8 May 2004 04:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, Jeff Buckley is due to come back to life in 2006, and the album he'll release will change music as we know it today.
(x post)

db: we have to beer ourselves? Literally pour beer over our own heads?
Man, you ask a lot out of your guests, but hey, *I'm* game! Anyone else interested? Kindof sounds like fun to me. Something your mother wouldn't want you to do. Come on, just for a laugh.

bimble (bimble), Saturday, 8 May 2004 04:59 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, was up til 5am reorging and cleaning and all that shizat. Just woke up. (Mainly getting all my fucking vinyl out of the way... so please appreciate the time, those of you who come today... I don't really cuss this much in person.. it's just been a recent ilx habit for not particular reason..)

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 8 May 2004 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

(Note to self: will not post grumpily just after waking up, especially the day of a house party at self's house.. )

Off soon to procure snacks, cheese breadsticks, marinara sauce, MORE BEEER!

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 8 May 2004 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

If only you could see the vortex of chaos that is my place of residence...

bimble (bimble), Saturday, 8 May 2004 18:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Be thankful that your sewer line is working correctly db. Jen and I have some potential problems with ours we learned this morning, though the shower is now working fine along with all the other plumbing in the house.

The good things are:

We now have a videotape of a camera's journey down our sewer line for whenever we want to watch it again.

Georgetown Records finally opened it's doors this morning, and we were there in the first 15 minutes. I found a copy of Ween's The Pod on (double) LP for a mere $15. (Mind you, most Ween on vinyl, particularly the old stuff, is fetching $80-$100 on ebay these days.)

martin m. (mushrush), Saturday, 8 May 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Awesome! Bring it over and Pollo Asado the fuck out of us at my place out while we have crackers, olive & garlic tapenade, and irish, goat, and brie cheeses....(Just came back from last minute shopping! :-D )

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 8 May 2004 21:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, the party is now over... thanks all, Matos, Donna, Jen, Martin, and Bimble for coming over, beering yourselves, and playing lots of cool tjoonz!

I've learned to never ever play the Dirtyfunker remix/boot of Nirvana's "Lithium" in Matos's presence ever ever again.

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 9 May 2004 08:30 (twenty-one years ago)

(and I feel bad because I was able to dub a really cool movie off him today.. which I can't wait to dub and give to Elvis T next week)

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 9 May 2004 08:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I will forever remember how the song by Wiseblood (Foetus) was played, taking me pleasantly down memory lane to the time when 3 notes repeated incessantly was all you needed to make a meaningful and even somehow enjoyable, hilarious artistic statement. The late 80's was a weird time in music. The word "industrial" was key. Only against a backdrop of say, Laibach could such a record exist. Good stuff.

I was also nuts about Nitzer Ebb's Belief when it came out.

bimble (bimble), Sunday, 9 May 2004 09:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, Chakifest called us and told us we were loved by Chaki.

<3

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 9 May 2004 18:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yes.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 9 May 2004 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry I missed it. I beered the living shit out of myself at the track, and by the time I made it back to Seattle, I was in no condition to find my way to Fremont/Queen Anne, or anywhere else besides my couch.

next time...

Scott CE (Scott CE), Monday, 10 May 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

a likely story

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Monday, 10 May 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

so apparently at the Sunset Tavern on 5/19, there will be a "DJ Thai Tom" performing!

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Monday, 10 May 2004 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, you remember what the chef said the last time we were there! He's a total Burning Man freak. He probably DJs records too, as well as tasty Thai food. (I mean, if he can do with vinyl what he does with cooking Thai, the man can out-turntable Kid Koala)

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 10 May 2004 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Imagine if he sets his records on fire!

"I'd like my techno FIVE STARS tonight, please.")

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 10 May 2004 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

no kidding! I might have to check that out.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Monday, 10 May 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Then again, it could be just some other guy named Tom who's either a) Thai, or b) likes the restaurant and named himself after it...

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 10 May 2004 20:38 (twenty-one years ago)

who'd blame him?

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Monday, 10 May 2004 20:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, if the case is b), then that's pretty low on the creative scale, ain't it?

DJ Wolfgang Puck's
DJ Taco Mesa

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 10 May 2004 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, but the last one is a sign of rightness and goodness and all that is holy.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 May 2004 21:21 (twenty-one years ago)

A sign, yes. A great DJ name, no.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 10 May 2004 21:23 (twenty-one years ago)

But what if it was DJ Taco M? Or DJ Au Lac?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 May 2004 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)

If you use the name of a specific dish, then it's a great DJ Name

DJ Cashew Chicken Five Stars
Dj Gorditos And Black Beans
DJ Bruschettia With Extra Fontina

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 10 May 2004 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

dj donut with extra bitch

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 10 May 2004 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

That last one in DB's list is kinda cheesy. *flees*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 May 2004 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

There already is a DJ Five Star, though most of the time you see his name spelled "DJ *****". He was the DJ for Mono Puff.

martin m. (mushrush), Monday, 10 May 2004 21:54 (twenty-one years ago)

DJ Taco auf der Maur *ducks 'n' covers*

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 02:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I wanna be DJ Pancake Corral.

Layna Andersen (Layna Andersen), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 02:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I wanna be DJ Tanner.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 04:30 (twenty-one years ago)
