Okay then, what does "C.V." stand for? Thanks for satisfying my curiosity.

curriculum vitae

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Friday, 7 May 2004 04:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Curriculum Vitae, I believe.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 7 May 2004 04:22 (twenty-one years ago)

the term CV is also used in america -- mostly in academia and the sciences.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Friday, 7 May 2004 04:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm. Sorry but these answers only moderately satisfy me. Now, there is a song by Fiat Lux (don't ask) called "Aqua Vitae". I looked around and figured out this is a type of alcoholic beverage. So...what does "vitae" mean? And "curriculum" to me means school, courses, not work experience.

Any further info is appreciated on this admittedly trivial matter of my annoying curiosity.

bimble (bimble), Friday, 7 May 2004 04:31 (twenty-one years ago)

from a latin dictionary:

curriculum -i n. [running; a contest in running , race; raceground, course, lap; a racing chariot].

vita -ae f. [life].

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Friday, 7 May 2004 04:50 (twenty-one years ago)

It's like "the whole course of your life"... a curriculum was an oval running track... It's from "curro" which is the verb "to run".

DougD, Friday, 7 May 2004 04:52 (twenty-one years ago)

hence, "cardio-vascular"

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Friday, 7 May 2004 04:55 (twenty-one years ago)

"curry" also derives from "curro" because it gives you the runs
