FAP-- colette's birthday, 25th may

there's like 30 FAP threads going on, but i figured that i'd start this one just to get the date in the diary and in people's heads, and then we can fine tune it later.

my birthday is a tuesday this year, which is pretty lame. so i figured a night drinking wine with ILX would be an entertaining mid-week option.

i'm terrible at thinking of locations, but i'd like one that is easy to get home from for me. which could mean (gasp!) a north london/islington location. any ideas or suggestions?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Swimmer?

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:31 (twenty-one years ago)

works for me

stevem (blueski), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I like Le Swim but bearing in mind this is a school night could we not do it somewhere more central?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:33 (twenty-one years ago)

true i mean it is actually really easy for you to get home from central london colette

stevem (blueski), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I apologize in advance for my absence.

Barima (Barima), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:35 (twenty-one years ago)

the two places i was thinking of were the good old harrow (either downstairs or getting our own bartender upstairs) or the chapel bar (since it's close to my house and has comfy sofas)

but could do somewhere in, like, soho or something as well. i just haven't noticed any of them being especially good or anything.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:36 (twenty-one years ago)

uhhh...glasshouse?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:37 (twenty-one years ago)

NO!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:37 (twenty-one years ago)

But The Swimmer is faaaaaarrrrrrr (I don't care if there a bus what goes right by my house).

Chapel Bar was nice but pricey. But then again, I'm employed now, so that's not as much of a problem as it used to be.

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:38 (twenty-one years ago)

jesus, soho for the nine millionth time - use other areas of london please.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 7 May 2004 09:39 (twenty-one years ago)

no and glasshouse stores do not belong in the same sentence (i like it again)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:39 (twenty-one years ago)

"glasshouse stores" and "demolish" should belong in the same sentence.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 7 May 2004 09:40 (twenty-one years ago)

there's a reason Soho is used so much. It is Central London thus convenient/fair compromise for large mount of people.

stevem (blueski), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:40 (twenty-one years ago)

that was a typo, i think

stevem (blueski), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:41 (twenty-one years ago)

i think the glasshouse is always a little cramped feeling, so probably would prefer somewhere else.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:41 (twenty-one years ago)

would be alright on a Tuesday

altho Tuesday is QUIZ NIGHT at the One Tun and numerous other places

stevem (blueski), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been to lots of good FAPs at the GHS, but really, I loathe the place.

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:43 (twenty-one years ago)

i work and live in hampstead. therefore i would be much more inclined to go to faps without the hassle of having to go into central london at all. it isn't as far from the centre of town as streatham was, but nevertheless it's still a hassle and central london generally gives me a headache anyway.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 7 May 2004 09:44 (twenty-one years ago)

right. so somewhere that isn't the glasshouse.

ed? you're usually good at thinking of places...somewhere spacious? i know the main problem with chapel bar is the cost, so i'm willing to give up on it if people really mind that issue.

did you guys hate the harrow, then? cheapish, central, perhaps our own room and bartender where people can bring ipods and play dj...

colette (a2lette), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:44 (twenty-one years ago)

You know what, Marcello, why don't you have your own FAP up in Hampstead, and you can invite who you like, and exclude who you like, instead of just moaning on everyone else's threads?

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I second the Harrow - its open enough to get a largeish group of people in there without everyone having to split off into little subgroups like at the Princess Louise or Champion or wherever. But downstairs should be fine as its never crowded on a Tuesday.

Ignore the grandstanding curmudgeon please.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Where is the Harrow again?

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:48 (twenty-one years ago)

You know what, Marcello, why don't you have your own FAP up in Hampstead, and you can invite who you like, and exclude who you like, instead of just moaning on everyone else's threads?

Like you don't?

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 7 May 2004 09:48 (twenty-one years ago)

it was where we had the dean party. it's off fleet street.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah! That was good, Colette. If we could get a bartender upstairs it would be ace (cause it's hard to open and close the doors while balancing multiple drinks).

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i prefer the Glasshouse to the Harrow but this is not really relevant to anyone other than myself, I don't really care where it is

Marcello i don't really want to start up beef with you but I am confused as to why you post negatively on threads like this with people you surely don't consider to be your friends...or would you like to be friends?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:52 (twenty-one years ago)

children! no fighting on my birthday thread.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:53 (twenty-one years ago)

how about no more posts at all? Harrow (off Fleet St), 25th May, see you there :)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I am providing the political counterbalance necessary to maintain a healthy democracy innit.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 7 May 2004 09:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I third the Harrow, as it is a short bus ride from my office. In the diary etc

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 7 May 2004 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)

is it in the ILX calendar thingy? i don't know how to add that.

and, do people agree with matt that we should just stay downstairs? or should i book the upstairs rooms? if i can guarantee about 20 people (which doesn't seem that hard) she'll give us a bartender of our very own.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:01 (twenty-one years ago)

If we can get a barperson upstairs, I like upstairs! You're cute, I doubt you'll have trouble pulling 20 people, Colette. ::ducks::

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Harrow works for me! I'm at some dull work thingy in EC1 that day - so even better.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:08 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah. i'm going to hit you for saying i'm cute. hello? i'll take any compliments i get!

thanks steve, i've added it to the calendar. in a variation of my favorite color scheme: purple and lime green!

colette (a2lette), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:09 (twenty-one years ago)

(No, you'd hit me for implying you would pull 20 people - i.e. calling you a slut!)

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:10 (twenty-one years ago)

ah. so true, though!

(missed the english phrase, so that's why i missed the insult!)

colette (a2lette), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:11 (twenty-one years ago)

only 20?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:32 (twenty-one years ago)

this is so going to be an awesome fap-- infighting and insults are already flying!

colette (a2lette), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:33 (twenty-one years ago)

And you've already pulled! ;-)

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:34 (twenty-one years ago)

sigh. where did i get this reputation!?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Same place I got the reputation for beating people up!

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:36 (twenty-one years ago)

you tell people that, don't you?

have i been saying things when i'm drunk again that are inappropriate and perhaps untrue?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't even know where Fleet Street is.

nb. someone (probably Stevem) has put yr big day on the calendar, Colette. Easy.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

HOW CAN YOU LIVE IN LONDON AND NOT KNOW WHERE FLEET STREET IS?!?!?

I mean, obviously, it crosses the River Fleet. Where else would it be?

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i never used to know where Saville Row was, or Harley St

stevem (blueski), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i put it up. as said above, in my favorite color combo. which i noticed is like the same as for your party and like everything else on the calendar. so i am not original.

the pub is here: http://tinyurl.com/t07d

who doesn't know where fleet street is?

(xpost, kate OTM)

colette (a2lette), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Well I know it used to be where all the newspapers were or something, but other than that...it's on the Monopoly board, right? Ummm, is it near The Strand?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i just sent a link to a map...that should answer all your questions.

(and a good change of subject from us all fighting to accusing you of being directionally challenged)

colette (a2lette), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Fleet Street is what The Strand is called when it gets near and goes over the River Fleet!

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 7 May 2004 10:52 (twenty-one years ago)

How did they taste?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 10:57 (twenty-one years ago)

tweelicious

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 10:57 (twenty-one years ago)

those cats were so wonderful! i can't believe she just sat there in my arms while people came up and stoked her...so calm!

props to matt dc for arriving up the windy stairs on crutches! he's so cool...

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 11:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Did the cats eat any Krispy Kreme? Fat kitties... They were very very cute.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 11:35 (twenty-one years ago)

It is one of life's little ironies that Alan wasn't present.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I cannot believe I missed cats & donuts!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 11:41 (twenty-one years ago)

i think carlos was trying to feed the cats donuts, but they didn't seem to like them.

thanks for the cake, liz...i think it is maybe the best cake i've ever eaten! i was planning on bringing it to work to eat with lunch, but this morning i decided i'd rather have it as my dinner. yay!

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 11:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Aw, I'm glad you like the cake. I am the cake lady, so if anyone is ever in dire need of baked goods, they can just contact me.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Hello!

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 13:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Liz is throwing down the iron chef gauntlet, but does Cis hear the clang?

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 13:19 (twenty-one years ago)

that would be the best fap ever. ILXchef...

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

May I be the judge please?

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

we get to have like 6 judges, and 6 people to do crappy voiceovers!

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

can there be an ilx curry chef contest too? curries are nice..

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 13:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh lummy I forgot about the cakeoff or whatever it was going to be called.

Yes yes curry contest! Yours will be 'king hot though, won't it Ken.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 14:21 (twenty-one years ago)

BAKEOFF!!!

liz vs cis, each has to make 6 cakes each and then we judge (and diplomatically come to a draw so we have to have a rematch ;))

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes yes curry contest! Yours will be 'king hot though, won't it Ken.

I can then give it names like "DON'T TRY IT".

I think The Bake Off should have its own thread for maximum organisation fun.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't believe I missed the cats, either! And I was there and all!

Yummy donuts. I can't believe how many I ate. OK, only two. But cake as well. Greedy pig.

And HSA turned up after I'd got tired and gone home. The bastard!

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Ed would have to be in the bake-off too.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Eep this is getting scary. However: the more cake the merrier, ja?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

how would a bake off work? would the contestants bring their selections somewhere, like carsmile suggested? or try to find somewhere with a couple ovens?

sounds like a county fair to me!

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Liz gets DA PHEAR now Ed's been shoved into the contest.

I'd say bake and bring otherwise it'll be all 'this isn't like my oven at home!' if the bakers fuck up their baking.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't care providing there is cake. Lovely, lovely cake. I love cake, it's great.

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Mmm, cake. This should be the Wednesday before Glasto, to fortify us for the ordeal ahead (and also because I'll be there)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Cake, cake, cake, cake.

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

mmmm cake.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

what if the contestants brought the cakes *to* glastonbury?!?!

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Num!

(Did I already wish you a happy birthday, Colette? If not, happy day indeed. :-))

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

what if the contestants brought the cakes *to* glastonbury?!?!

we could all chip in for the 'extra ingredients' required

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

what if the contestants brought the cakes *to* glastonbury?!?!

yeah!

now, who wants to give me a glastonbury ticket so i can take part?

cis (cis), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

we could all chip in for the 'extra ingredients' required

"There's a tiny bottle of conditioner in my slice!"

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Best bit about taking cake to glastonbury is that if any cakes don't turn out great you can sell them to hippies as 'special' cake at £5 a slice...

Flameproof (Flameproof), Thursday, 27 May 2004 07:14 (twenty-one years ago)

but when they don't get the 'desired effect', they'd come back for more cake, which would mean that you'd end up feeding all your cake to hippies and have none for you and yr mates :(

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 27 May 2004 07:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Did the mysterious Flameproof turn up, then?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 27 May 2004 07:17 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, I spoke to him a lot.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 27 May 2004 07:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I do indeed exist, much to most people's surprise...

Simon (né flameproof) (Flameproof), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

haha welcome to us, Flameproof. Take no notice of those people saying strange things that start with "I thought you were Marce...".

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 28 May 2004 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

From behind, I thought he was Cabbage.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 28 May 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude!

Sarah (starry), Friday, 28 May 2004 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

matt dc has only ever known cabbage from behind.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 28 May 2004 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

"flameproof" is pretty much the antithesis of marce...

ken c (ken c), Friday, 28 May 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I really want to meet this Marce bloke now.

Simon (né flameproof) (Flameproof), Friday, 28 May 2004 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

you can antithesise together!

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 29 May 2004 10:11 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
just in case anyone wants to check out the photos from this evening, i forgot that i'd put them up for your viewing pleasure...

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 17 June 2004 08:39 (twenty-one years ago)

you've also forgotten to link to them ;)

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 17 June 2004 08:40 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.dotphoto.com/Go.asp?l=a2lette&P=&AID=1545627&GID=690311&T=1

thanks, mark. how can it feel like it's already been a long day when it's only 10:56?!

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 17 June 2004 09:00 (twenty-one years ago)

out all night again eh?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 17 June 2004 09:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Liz looks justifiably proud of her cake.

That black cat seems v. interested in stevem.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 17 June 2004 09:12 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a an incredibly obvious joke I'm not going to make. I hope you all appreciate the superhuman restraint I'm displaying here.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 17 June 2004 09:14 (twenty-one years ago)

In one of them, Rob Bolton appears priest-like, holding the donut box.

sgs (sgs), Thursday, 17 June 2004 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)
