apparently there's sunday karaoke at "The Quays", halfway between nags head and upper holloway train station! (just up from the Odeon cinema basically) map here

I'm gonna check it out in about an hour (9pm). Fancy that? Call me 07967 755446 about it or just turn up if you fancy it!

and I'll report back on this thread about my findings!

29th of April?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 9 May 2004 18:16 (twenty-two years ago)

But tonight isn't 29th April. But rest assured if I was in possession of a time machine, and also in London, I would be there.

(xpost with Martin)

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 9 May 2004 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

i reset my computer's date to get the correct timestamp on a file i'm making for work, and convinced myself now that today is the 26th apr!

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 9 May 2004 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

i went there once - it was way less heaving than the pinepot!!

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 9 May 2004 18:20 (twenty-two years ago)

b-but if you think today is the 26th, how does that make tonight the 29th?

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 9 May 2004 18:21 (twenty-two years ago)

haha i've totally lost it haven't i. i meant to say i thought it was the 29th!

talking to aja for the past half an hour on the other thread had killed all my brain cells.

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 9 May 2004 18:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Understandable (sterling work on that other thread, by the way)...

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 9 May 2004 18:26 (twenty-two years ago)

No. You were already stupid.

You= Ken c.

Aja (aja), Sunday, 9 May 2004 18:27 (twenty-two years ago)

i can't do karaoke on a school night*, plus i am full of sissies and mash and would need to be rolled down the hill to the pub...

*thursday is not really a school night...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 9 May 2004 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 9 May 2004 18:32 (twenty-two years ago)

You= Ken c.

it is indeed observations such as this which makes aja intellectually superior.

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 9 May 2004 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

You, either sing "We are the Champions," or shut up!

Aja (aja), Sunday, 9 May 2004 18:41 (twenty-two years ago)

why?

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 9 May 2004 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't want to hear YOU!

Aja (aja), Sunday, 9 May 2004 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

why not?

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 9 May 2004 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Just because.

Aja (aja), Sunday, 9 May 2004 18:49 (twenty-two years ago)

just because what?

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 9 May 2004 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

If I told YOU, You wouldn't understand and you'd say "WHAT???"

Aja (aja), Sunday, 9 May 2004 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

then stop clogging up my thread with nonsense!! i'm off to sing now. xx

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 9 May 2004 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been known to do Prince's When Doves Cry karaoke....but I don't live anywhere near there!

uh (eetface), Sunday, 9 May 2004 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude.

1. The Verve - The Drugs Don't Work
2. Morning Musume - Happy Summer Wedding
3. Blur - Girls and Boys
4. Prince - When Doves Cry
5. ACDC - Hells Bells

= your official songlist

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Sunday, 9 May 2004 19:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Do you ever get the words mixed up in Girls and Boys?

Aja (aja), Sunday, 9 May 2004 19:43 (twenty-two years ago)

There is a screen there telling them to you.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Sunday, 9 May 2004 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I see. I've never been to a karaoke bar.

Aja (aja), Sunday, 9 May 2004 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

i went to one last night - hey it was alright you know!

Once past the SCARY exterior of the Quay's entrance it was actually well lit and ok inside, you get various kinds of beer in there, and it wasn't PACKED like the pint pot. music selection isnt as wide but it has some new stuff some old stuff and other stuff.

the pub is pretty huge and has even a BALCONY level so that you can look down girls tops when they sing (there's some kind of stage!) or you can sit round the corner for slightly quieter conversation/fun/snogging etc.

there were a lot of people with irish accents. funny thing to note singing didn't start til about 9:30. that means there's either only one hour of singing (unlikely given the kind of equipment that was set up for it) or there is some kind of LATE LICENSE. whether that's a good thing or not though is for everyone to judge for themselves.

i'm so up for it one sunday if anyone else is!

haha and of course being 2 mins from my house is a definitely benefit. as i get to stumble back to any of the two rooms in my house later than i would have had to leave central london pubs.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 10 May 2004 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

you can look down girls tops when they sing

I am shocked and offended!

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 10 May 2004 16:33 (twenty-two years ago)

this is too near me for me to avoid

stevem (blueski), Monday, 10 May 2004 16:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm up for it. At a future date, that is. (I'm in N10, by the way.)

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Monday, 10 May 2004 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll come, but a little bit more notice would make it more likely for me to be free...

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 08:43 (twenty-two years ago)

ken you are a bad mang :)

this sunday will no doubt be recovering from saturday
next sunday i'm going to see a mate's band
the sunday after that i'll hopefully be watching BRAZIL (it's just like watching brazil, etcetc)

so count me for some time in june...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 08:48 (twenty-two years ago)

The Quays is two minutes from my house and I've often been in for a post-Saturday night lunch - but the lunches are crap so I won't be going back. Also watched the France v. England Five Nations decider in there with an Australian friend of mine, both of us supporting France but trying hard not to show it but, thankfully, the bar staff are all Irish and they all wanted France to win too.

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 08:53 (twenty-two years ago)

for some reason i thought you lived in Scotland. be seeing you...

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 09:02 (twenty-two years ago)

At a karaoke? About as likely as seeing Donald Rumsfeld in a mosque.

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 09:04 (twenty-two years ago)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 13 March 2006 12:04 (twenty years ago)

I won the Karaoke at The Boston once. The standard of competetion wasn't very high.

chap who would dare to be completely sober on the internet (chap), Monday, 13 March 2006 12:50 (twenty years ago)

wow i didn't know there is a competition at the boston!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 13 March 2006 12:51 (twenty years ago)

this is boston arms tufnell park?

ken c (ken c), Monday, 13 March 2006 12:51 (twenty years ago)

That's the one. It's on every friday.

chap who would dare to be completely sober on the internet (chap), Monday, 13 March 2006 12:53 (twenty years ago)

It's mostly old men doing Sinatra and pissed up blokes doing Angels.

chap who would dare to be completely sober on the internet (chap), Monday, 13 March 2006 12:56 (twenty years ago)

wow. gotta check that one day.

no competitiveness at the holloway. just students and locals. and classy karaoke hostess who sings this version of "help yourself" by tom jones that mentions her crotch, every week. it's the reason i go there.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 13 March 2006 12:57 (twenty years ago)

can't wait til friday!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 11:30 (twenty years ago)

I might be up for this. Depends.

robster (robster), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 11:40 (twenty years ago)

on what?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 12:19 (twenty years ago)

Just depends.

robster (robster), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 12:19 (twenty years ago)

Any of you guys ever seen those fat-bastard fish in the mini-fishtank of that shop oppsoite Tufnell Park Sainsbury's? I pity those poor fuckers every time I walk by. They've gone mental. You can tell.

Mestema (davidcorp), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 13:02 (twenty years ago)

(Sing for their FREEDOM)

Mestema (davidcorp), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 13:03 (twenty years ago)

What, next to that weird African shop that sells meat and CDs? Fortess Road has such a strange collection of shops.

chap who would dare to be completely sober on the internet (chap), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 13:44 (twenty years ago)

fortess road is underrated

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 14:16 (twenty years ago)

The Junction's an alright pub.

robster (robster), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 14:17 (twenty years ago)

Ah, it's nothing special. The Pineapple's much nicer.

chap who would dare to be completely sober on the internet (chap), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 14:19 (twenty years ago)

this is a different Junction than the one at Highbury Corner i take it?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 14:22 (twenty years ago)

Mmm, The Pineapple is v. nice. Not been there for ages.

Ken: yes.

robster (robster), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 14:24 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, next to that weird Ethio-butcher. That place reeks. They sell CD's??? I usually speed by to avoid having my lungs singed.

The Pineapple does a Charcuterie wih Neal's Yard cheeses. Schwing.

Mestema (davidcorp), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 15:41 (twenty years ago)

Fortess Road has good Ethiopean eating too. Truly it is both under-rated and always short than you'd imagine (ie walking Kentish Town to Tufnell park is a piece of pish).
