i saw this last night and laughed a few times. i was drunk though. i assume a more sober weasel would have been less amused.

Are you talking about the Western or the Frank Skinner "sitcom". If the latter, I saw it a couple of weeks ago. It was rubbish. And I like Frank Skinner. I imagine the Western would have been funnier.

What's with the death of the British sitcom in recent years, anyway? There's, like, two on at the moment.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 9 May 2004 22:14 (twenty-two years ago)

The American sitcom is also dying. The general perception is that shows like The Office and Nighty Night are the way forward. I thought Shane was okay for a conventional sitcom in the tried and trusted format however. Skinner somehow still manages to get a smirk or chuckle out of me with even the lamest wise-cracks. It was a million times better than Baddiel's Syndrome at the very least.

Jack Palance is so fucking awesome in Shane.

I thought I might give it another shot, on the grounds that they couldn't have two episodes based around an annoying child singing Bryan Adams songs. But on the other hand it seemed just like some Frank Skinner jokes shoehorned into a stack of deeply implausible situations - his lack of acting skills totally detracted from any attempts to make it in any way character-based. Which is really pointless, and doesn't really make me want to watch it again.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Sunday, 9 May 2004 22:37 (twenty-two years ago)

David Schneider is the only good thing about Shane.
Frank Skinner is an appalling human being.
Seriously. Bereft of any sympathetic qualities.

de, Sunday, 9 May 2004 22:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Schneider is not very good in it.
