Murder One and LA Law were both great. Also Doogie Howser MD deserves a mention.

Wow THIS was a too short thread. Let's extend it out given the sad news:

Oh man. Watched LA Law with my grandma religiously as a kid, even though a lot of it went over my head.
But I loved NYPD Blue, that was my show for real all through college & my 20’s. I was gutted when Smits left but I bounced back, I couldnt ever quit it for long: I dipped back in when Ricky Shroeder joined the cast.
I was a little young for Hill Street Blues, I remember it being on kinda late.Funny, I had recently been thinking about revisiting it & giving it a full watch, so that may be on the cards now.
I loooooved that theme song though. One of my all time faves.

nypd blue has one of the all-time great wrapups, with sipowicz finally being promoted and assuming the job just at the end, to put a point on a continuous 12-season character arc. the quality of the writing doesn't change much in later seasons, they mostly just shift the cast around and keep doing the same kinds of police-work stories mixed in with life drama, but it stays watchable as long as you're willing to buy things like franz getting with charlotte ross.

i never saw hill street blues in reruns, too young, so a while back i tried to watch it systematically. couldn't stick with it, the old-timey pacing and the 'wacky' comedy were a bit draggy. but someday.

NYPD Blue was so consistent for a while (boilerplate?) that Rick Schroeder didn't distract and fit right in.

Completed Hill Street Blues yesterday
Season 7 def became a chore - the whole show kinda lost its way with writing going into s6 i felt, more and more they fell back on sitcom level b or c plots that were just sooooo fkn stupid. i felt bad for some of the actors, who all seemed to continually bring their a-game regardless
oh and a David Mamet episode in s7 popped up...which was also unsurprisingly the least Hill St Bluesian ep

Now beginning LA Law. Which I have to say has so far been v engaging almost immediately.
