The Day After Tomorrow = apocalypse film from the creators of Independence Day, right?

I will bet every penny I own on the fact that this film will feature a shot of the Statue of Liberty submerged by a freak wave, with only the torch holding up above the water.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 10 May 2004 08:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Also disaster movies suck shit. All of them.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 10 May 2004 08:13 (twenty-one years ago)

esp that mockumentary horror film about the poo truck at glastonbury festival.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 10 May 2004 08:14 (twenty-one years ago)

apparently The Day After Tomorrow has a more sensitive tone in the wake of certain actual real life disaster - so think Deep Impact rather than...Armageddon...

stevem (blueski), Monday, 10 May 2004 08:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Looks like the biggest pile of shit CG ass EVAH. The trailers have had me snorting into my Ice Blast the last couple of times I've been to the cinema. Ahahahaha wow look at the beleaguered survivors trekking to see crappy model Manhattan submerged in crappy CGI snow.

I really can't believe that TDAT is anywhere near as good as Deep Impact. I mean, 'from the makers of Independence Day'?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 10 May 2004 08:17 (twenty-one years ago)

also the makers of Armageddon and Godzilla, two of the three worst films i have ever seen, the third being Deep Impact

stevem (blueski), Monday, 10 May 2004 08:19 (twenty-one years ago)

You haven't seen THE VOLCANO, have you Steve?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 10 May 2004 08:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Watchoo talking about, Willis?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 10 May 2004 08:34 (twenty-one years ago)

None of these movies can be as bad as Van Helsing

Andrew L (Andrew L), Monday, 10 May 2004 08:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Really that bad? Beckinsale is really getting on my tits with her ad billboard appearances lately. Helloooooo enormo fake boobs and nasty-ass hair.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 10 May 2004 08:39 (twenty-one years ago)

haha wow they're showing her ASS HAIR on billboard ads?!??!?!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 10 May 2004 08:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Ken you are obsessed with ass.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 10 May 2004 08:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I love when disaster/cataclysm movies stick to formula; the mini-disaster to alert the higher-ups that there's a situation, the lone scientist who knows exactly what's going on but no one will listen, the high-ranking military guy who wants to nuke something, the plucky teenager caught in the path of the disaster, etc. As long as it adheres to the format of its predecessors, I cannot see how this movie can do any wrong!

Plus, WHOOOOOSH TIDAL WAVE BOOM POW BIG OL' STORMS TCSH-KRAOUUWWWW LIGHTNING AWESOME!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 10 May 2004 11:39 (twenty-one years ago)

no the only good disaster movie is the PARODY disaster movie. Airplane roolz u r all fay wrey

stevem (blueski), Monday, 10 May 2004 11:50 (twenty-one years ago)

It doesn't look as good as the Core.

Interesting Van Helsing experience makes it hard to comment. But yes, Beckinsale is rub in everything she does.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 10 May 2004 11:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i saw Beckinsale in the Van Helsing trailer and thought 'wow Estee Lauder was around in those days?'

stevem (blueski), Monday, 10 May 2004 11:55 (twenty-one years ago)

The Core was really great fun. The problem I have with this movie is it looks like it's going to try to be all dramatical rather than just stupid break-the-earth fun. WEAK.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 10 May 2004 12:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Ken you are obsessed with ass.
-- Liz :x (lizd4ply...), May 10th, 2004.

coming from the person whose every message on this thread so far contains the said word!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 10 May 2004 12:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Beckinsale is great in the The Last Days Of Disco!

I think that Godzilla link needs more omg-i-so-can't-wait-omgs. Lavral Mothra, du-u-ude!

Gregory Henry (Gregory Henry), Monday, 10 May 2004 12:05 (twenty-one years ago)

That "day after tomorrow" film will surely totally blow, the proof of this being the words "dir roland emmerich", which pretty much guarantees the worst film in the world ever is about to pass before yer eyes.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 10 May 2004 12:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Will there be a DOG which is in danger, which gets rescued at the last minute I wonder?

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 10 May 2004 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

i bet 'Eight Legged Freaks' is fantastic but there is no way i can ever watch that movie

stevem (blueski), Monday, 10 May 2004 12:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Its not that good Steve. Infact it is not good at all. No-one dies (for which read not enough people die). And the spiders are almost cartoony.

robster (robster), Monday, 10 May 2004 13:18 (twenty-one years ago)

D'oh!!! Wrong thread.

robster (robster), Monday, 10 May 2004 13:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought all disaster movies were parody disaster movies. Dude, on Saturday we watched Stroker Ace, Van Helsing, and the 1998 Godzilla, and Godzilla was easily the best. Chewing gum makes Jean Reno look more American! It's true.

TOMBOT, Monday, 10 May 2004 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not a disaster movie if O.J. Simpson isn't in it.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 10 May 2004 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Godzilla sapped Reno of whatever power he initially had completely. Bloody clever those 120ft lizards

stevem (blueski), Monday, 10 May 2004 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm having a lot of trouble looking at anything this morning that isn't that Godzilla link.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 10 May 2004 14:09 (twenty-one years ago)

That's not a technical difficulty, though, more like a HOLY FUCK WOAH thing.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 10 May 2004 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

This is the thread where I get SO FUCKING EXCITED about the Godzilla Film Festival next month at the Egyptian Theatre

All other movies can please go die now

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Monday, 10 May 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)
