Cigarette Filters - C/D

Some old fuck dropped a cig butt out of his car window today.. I was going to go pick it up and throw it back in his window .. but I didn't think I had time before the light changed...

Not that car exhaust is good for the environment, mind you ...

How much less disgusting litter & shit would be around if cigarettes didn't have filters? If the butts were just tobacco & paper, they would disintegrate and disappear...

And really, is a cigarette healthier with a filter? And does it matter? What's the point of a filter?

can i add a further variable to this hypothesis and say that i would have been the guy standing on the side of the road laughing my socks off if said "old fuck" had got out of his car and decked you.

With a burning cigarette down the back of his shirt, no less.

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 10 May 2004 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Wasn't there a big controversial thread a while back about people dropping cigarettes out of cars?

NA (Nick A.), Monday, 10 May 2004 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Probably. But the question is about filters.... I've got no problem with smokers who don't throw their shit wherever they feel like it. But even then, is the added waste worth the supposed "health" benefit?

Biodegradable filters would be nice, but so would fuel efficient cars and some laws that really put the screws to corporate polluters.

Kiss a smoker- Kill a senator!

anybody who has every littered a cigarette butt should have their genitalia ground into a pulp and fed to them. then killed. with guns.

oops (Oops), Monday, 10 May 2004 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Camels have biodegradable filters. Only problem is they biodegrade after like 1000 years...

As Audrey Hepburn says in "Charade" as she breaks off the filter of a cigarette she's been given, "I can't stand those things. It's like drinking coffee through a veil."

Nemo (JND), Monday, 10 May 2004 19:45 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah if coffee was something that ripped out various essential parts of your throat and lungs while you drank it (that's my way of saying yes there is a big difference between filtered and unfiltered)

OK yeah no one should throw cigarettes in the street but I'd kind of rather them be in the sewer/gutter than be setting a damn trashcan on fire. If people put places to put cigarettes, people put the cigarettes in those places. I mean it's pretty rare to find a huge mess of cigarette butts on the ground in the vincinity of trashcans with the cigarette butt ashtray things on them.

Allyzay, Monday, 10 May 2004 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

how bout just putting out your stogie completely before throwing it anywhere?

oops (Oops), Monday, 10 May 2004 21:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Ally: otm. Everyone else: Err... Chill?

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 10 May 2004 22:56 (twenty-one years ago)

for some reason i find bins on fire completely hilarious, not sure why

the 'surface' 'noise' (electricsound), Monday, 10 May 2004 23:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I usually stub my cigarettes out on the ground and then carry them to the nearest trash can, which is rarely more than a block away. One time a few years ago I was in a parking lot and feeling lazy and tried to toss the butt out the window, and it flew back in and went down the back of my jeans and burned my buttcrack. It seemed like the gods had intervened.

kirsten (kirsten), Monday, 10 May 2004 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)

in public i'd always put em out in a bin, but in venues where an ashtray is not within a reasonable distance i do the ol' drop and grind.

"I usually stub my cigarettes out on the ground and then carry them to the nearest trash can"

Really? Wow, I admire that amount of effort. I roll my cigarettes, and don't use filters, so I'm not really that bothered about just leaving the butts as its all biodegradable. (I hope: lots of crazy chemicals in tobacco, but who knows) I guess it affects the look of a place if there are spent cigarettes everywhere. I dunno.

But, yeah, don't like filters - 'proper' cigarettes don't feel like yr smoking anything - not in a 'I'm a tough smoker; sort of way - I just prefer it...

ha you people should visit montreal where people seem to be constantly throwing cigarettes out of windows

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 01:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeabut everyone in Mtl smokes ;P

Im a terror at the drop n grind in pubs, if no ashtrays are handy and its tres crowded. I'll always endeavour to bin the butt when I can tho, and if I'm somewhere I wouldnt want to litter at all like a park or someones house/garden, I've even been known to crush out and have to pocket the damn used butt til I could find somewhere to put it.

The council here has been handing out old film canisters at the beach to use as ashtrays to stop people butting out in the sand. Rather good idea methinks.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 01:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I would also NEVER EVER throw a cig out of a car window, because we live in bushfire land, and thats just so irresponsible it isnt even funny (having had family lose property in the Canb fires, this sort of thing makes me maaaad)

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 02:01 (twenty-one years ago)

What the hell do they put ash trays in cars for? Oh sorry, I forgot - loose change & roach clips. How square of me.

BTW: Camel non-filters smoked here. I am such a redneck.

jim wentworth (wench), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 02:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Jim OTM about the ashtrays. Hell Ive actually used a car ashtray and been told off for it! WTF!?

"Can I smoke in the car" "yeah sure... OH MY GOD DONT USE THE ASHTRAY YUCK"

Mentalists.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 02:34 (twenty-one years ago)

You, sir, are a real man. If you're going to smoke, smoke.
