(xpost)

He's a failed leading man. There hasn't been a Michael Broderick picture since Biloxi Blues, unless you want to count Inspector Gadget.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 10 May 2004 21:41 (twenty-two years ago)

where are all the baldwins? and guttenberg. and tom selleck.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 10 May 2004 21:43 (twenty-two years ago)

true true, i guess i'm looking at the succes of the producers and saying how in the hell? but we're talking films so, in his defense he made a couple of poor choices and took leading roles in really crappy movies. and while those roles may have taken some of the shine off his leading role candidacy i still would hesitate to call him a failure. let's see what develops before including him on a list with whoever it is that's sitting in that bucket with the violin.

metfigga (metfigga), Monday, 10 May 2004 21:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Joseph Cotton, if ever there was a perfect leading man...who somehow had to end his career doing bad monster movies. Then again so did Ray Milland.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 May 2004 21:45 (twenty-two years ago)

well so much of what you said isn't accurate andrew i don't even know where to start.

metfigga (metfigga), Monday, 10 May 2004 21:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Met, you fail to recognise Yahoo Serious! What were you doing during the 80s?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 10 May 2004 21:46 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm with scott here, aren't these types we're talking about here??? the baldwins et al. forget people that are no longer landing lead roles, how about those that are hardly even on the radar any longer (save alec of late i suppose).

metfigga (metfigga), Monday, 10 May 2004 21:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Joseph Cotton, if ever there was a perfect leading man...

Best failed leading man evah

captain gay, Monday, 10 May 2004 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

i was probably watching ferris bueller. and let that be the last comment i make about matthew broderick before i start to sound weird. but come on, he stars in what was my favorite comedy as a kid - ferris bueller and then stars in what is my favorite comedy as an adult - election. for crying out loud, election is such a gem.

metfigga (metfigga), Monday, 10 May 2004 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Who'd have ever thought that a thread that starts off with a picture of Casper Van Dien could stir such passion?

jeez, he sees it coming

captain gay, Monday, 10 May 2004 21:58 (twenty-two years ago)

He was the star of Ferris Bueller, he wasn't the star of Election. There hasn't been a Matthew Broderick film (where the main draw is "it's Matthew Broderick") since Biloxi Blues, which I'm assuming only got made because he had signed the contract before he killed that girl.

Also after working his way back up like Rob Lowe, his big comeback film is one of the worst movies of the 90s. So he keeps plgging away, and Election+ You Can Count on Me raise his profile enough that he's back to costarring (The Last Shot, The Stepford Wives). But I don't honestly think there's going to be a Matthew Broderick film again.

(sorry about that, back to your regularly scheduled photos)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 10 May 2004 21:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Jack Black was never in the running though, and neither was Broderick. And I dare you to call Caan a failed leading man anywhere near a mile of his face.

I've often wondered about what happened to this guy. He's even got a leading man's name, "Kyle Reese" -

This is a damn odd definition of "failed" in some cases. Some of these guys have had big selling roles, how does that make them failures? Is it meant to be that theyre now washed up?

Also, George Lazenby to thread, STAT (if he's already been done I'm sorry, but pix without captions is really effin' unhelpful)

HEY! Leave our Bruce out of this! He da man.

He's my "sadly". It's been three or four film appearances since Bubba Ho-Tep, and he was in that fucking awful "Serving Sara" with Matthew Perry (who OWNS this thread) and Elizabeth Hurley. I hope I'm wrong and he becomes a Star again, but he just looks so old in that first picture.

On the other hand, he's Bruce Campbell and the rest of us aren't.
