Out of this World, the TV show: C\D?

Remember this? I had a crush on Maureen Flanagan, who played Evie, a half-alien with the powers to freeze time by touching her index fingers and also 'gleap' (I think) things into or out of existance for short periods of time.

On air during 1987-1991, directed by Scott Baio and featuring the voice of Bert Reynolds as Evie's father: http://members.tripod.com/~jessicarae/ootw/troy.jpg (though this mightn't work)

Featuring guest appearances by Darth Vader, some Romulan and a regular appearance for Doug McClure.

Was the them music "Swinging on a Star" and did it feature Charles Nelson Reilly?

Yes and Yes, amazingly.

This show was classic because my sister is named Evie and I used it as undisputed proof that she was at least part alien.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 10 May 2004 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

This is creepy. Over the last 2 weeks, I have been using the idea of Evie's stopping the world whilst stuff got done to right the situation set up earlier in the show as a kind of 'what I want to happen most in the world'.

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 10 May 2004 21:08 (twenty-one years ago)

CLASSIC.

Watching this show was a Saturday afternoon ritual for me back in the day. The memories! I weep! I would totally buy this on DVD.

I too still think about Evie's time-stopping power and how useful it would be. That's one of the best superpowers.

Did you ever try it? 'cus I did. I also used to speculate about how the special effects were made, and I once tried to make my own frozen-time water-pitcher by melting plastic bags, destroying the microwave.

Yup.

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 10 May 2004 22:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I always wondered why she didn't stop time and steal Pl*yb*ys from a store!

This show gets a big C for 'CLASSIC' from me.

Barima (Barima), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

OUt of This World vs Small WOnder

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Out of this World wins, no contest. We're talking femalian vs. fembot. The father in a cube thing on OotW was sorta cute and pathetic and the father on Small Wonder was just creepy... opening up his daughter's back to reprogram her. Undeniably unkosher.

x Jeremy (Atila the Honeybun), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

but the brother on SW was soooo creepy.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Small Wonder sounds like the creepiest thing ever.

Barima (Barima), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

As far as I can tell, no one from that show ever worked again, except Edie McClurg.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)
