Say, after they finally build Holodecks, how long before they come out with the first WWII games for them?

Also, will they have content restrictions, or could anything your perverted mind could think up? like, say, use holos of GWB & Cheney to do their own Punch & Judy show, or create a volley of monkeys to re-enact the U.S. Civil War?

Kingfish Disraeli (Kingfish), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Approximately 3 months before the first holodeck is unveiled.

I now want a volley of monkeys, damn.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 20:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Me too. Monkey Volleyball with my volley of monkeys. Or I could give them Barbi dolls to throw at children and call it "The Volley of the Dolls." The sky's the limit with a volley of monkey's, n'est ce pas?

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

The Holodeck market, like the home video market before it, will be driven by the human desire for daily multiple orgasms.

After the first wave of truly-interactive porn you'll get your war games.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I would use the monkeys to more practical uses, like setting them at typewriters, effectively creating the first monkey super-computer!

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

they could write Shakespeare for you too, Leee.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 20:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha Milo brings up a good point; FIRST we'll see a flight simulator, then tons of porn, THEN SCA nonsense.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

oh yeah, and In This Thread, you dump out whatever's in the Dork Bucket in your head...

Kingfish Disraeli (Kingfish), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I would 'have' Elizabeth Taylor at every stage of her life... from 17 to the present. With each minute representing one year... she'd be morphing in front of my eyes! Too weird.

andy, Tuesday, 11 May 2004 20:30 (twenty-one years ago)

After the first wave of truly-interactive porn you'll get your war games.

Ok, now I'm seeing a legion of scantily clad sexbots armed to the teeth and hunting down Nazis. Boy will I be embarassed when the Nazis see me with pants around my ankles and that blithe grin on my face. Hopefully my bots'll kill them though.

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 20:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Would Bill Gates have ripped off Xerox and Apple, if he could have been in a holosuite with holo-Bo Derek 24/7?

Would Einstein have figured out what E equalled, if holo-Rita Hayworth were available around-the-clock?

Holosex is the end of humanity.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 20:33 (twenty-one years ago)

that's why it can't happen soon enough.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 20:34 (twenty-one years ago)

milo, you've never watched Futurama, have you?

TOMBOT, Tuesday, 11 May 2004 20:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm. Think about the results of those two examples and it sounds lke the beginning of humanity.

Patrick Kinghorn, Tuesday, 11 May 2004 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

go play the latest Wolfenstein game for sexbot Nazis.

Kingfish Disraeli (Kingfish), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently most dork thoughts lead to sex. Shocker.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 20:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Dan,

More like lead to sex and violence. *Yawn*

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I was the best of times, it was the BLURST of times.

Nellie (nellskies), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 02:44 (twenty-one years ago)

correction: most dork thoughts apparently lead to imaginary sex. see: college, high school, apparently holodecks.

I'd get so bored with a holodeck, just like my PS2, I swear to god. Unless they put out a game called "Columbia Killing Spree" but even that would only be cool for like 20 minutes to an hour, then I'd never play it again.

Allyzay, Wednesday, 12 May 2004 02:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I read that as "Columbine Killing Spree"

Aaron A., Wednesday, 12 May 2004 02:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I love you Lucy Liubot!

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 03:00 (twenty-one years ago)

The day I can have total freedom within a holodeck is the day I disappear from society altogether.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 03:35 (twenty-one years ago)

killer sexmachines from uranus

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 03:43 (twenty-one years ago)

top secret weapon: a 10-megaton drippy dick

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 03:44 (twenty-one years ago)

You've taken a good thing and ruined it. I hope you are happy.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 03:48 (twenty-one years ago)

it's my specialty

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 03:50 (twenty-one years ago)

It's against my religious principles to say anything against a bar but Eis you've just got to get deep enough to realize that the Ned is right on this one, specialty or not.

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 04:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, how long before some dork engineers record Majel Barrett to be the computer voice on their new voice-controlled OS?

Kingfish Disraeli (Kingfish), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 05:11 (twenty-one years ago)

or bill gates, in your head forever

frank swedehead, Wednesday, 12 May 2004 06:19 (twenty-one years ago)

also, it'd be kinda neat to stage an adaption of _Caligula_ using stuffed animals or Smurfs or something

Kingfish Disraeli (Kingfish), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 16:23 (twenty-one years ago)

We are all already in a holodeck right now! I know because I saw a malfunction once.

A Nairn (moretap), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I love you Lucy Liubot!

She's finally admitted it?

Barima (Barima), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks Kingfish, now I have an image of a smurf doing the Dance of the Dawn stuck in my head. It's going to take an industrial strength wet/dry vac lodged firmly in my ear for half an hour to dislodge that kind of smut.

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Why dislodge it when you can *embrace* it.

*WARNING*

The following link is rated "D" for dorky. Contains poor sexual content and unfortunate use of language.

Evanston Wade (EWW), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha Milo brings up a good point; FIRST we'll see a flight simulator, then tons of porn, THEN SCA nonsense

Then the market will crash, and half the holodeck will be full of teenagers shouting 'OMG! LOL I went to college today and it was closed'. The other half will be like a pub full of 30-something muso-bores talking about Stereolab and UK Garage whilst occasionally an MTV-watching 12 year old pops his head 'round the door and asks where John Cena is.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 17:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Mr. Wade,

Well, you got the previous imagery out of my head.

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I bit my tongue once very hard by accident and the veils parted for a fraction of a second, it all goes blue, didn't see what was behind the curtains though. Has anyone seen what is really there yet? Hope it's not Cthulhu in an endless sea of stars

Frank Swedehead, Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

also, it'd be kinda neat to stage an adaption of _Caligula_ using stuffed animals or Smurfs or something

See: Meet the Feebles, directed by Peter Jackson.

Another market segment will be people using holodecks to act out their fanfic.

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Problem is, _Meet the Feebles_ is pretty weak as a flick. I think _Dead Alive_ is a much better, more-entertaining-overall PJ flick.
