S & D Drama Students!!

So, I started this on ILM last night by some freakish accident!

I am sitting at work, listening, as usual, to brass instruments warming up, people practising arias and other opera type stuff and f*cking drama students rehearsing in the foyer!! There are numerous practise rooms and venues in this place they could go to, but for the last 2 HOURS I've been subjected to that song from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (the one about Teddy Bears & China Dolls) and a truly (see what I did there?) awful pastiche of Peter Kay sketches and Busted song lyrics. HELP ME, I may commit extreme violence......

Are they all wearing 3/4 length coats?
-- Dom Passantino (lifetimepilingu...), May 11th, 2004 6:03 PM.

Only the fat ones with pony tails.
-- Sick Nouthall (auspiciousfis...), May 11th, 2004 6:07 PM.

Just thinking about this - I was at university for ages (bad student) and I don't think I ever met a drama student. Do you think they all lie about what they study?
-- Kevin Gilchrist (KevinGil14...), May 11th, 2004 6:12 PM.

Not at Exeter - they all wear sweaters proclaiming what play they're in next week / this week / last week.
-- Sick Nouthall (auspiciousfis...), May 11th, 2004 6:14 PM.

Shall we post the worst student play synopses we can find here?

What happens when Detective Rod
Stewart (not the Rod Stewart,
obviously),investigating the murder of
Ronan Keating (not the Ronan
Keating, obviously), is asked by a
tearful mother to find her daughter’s
carnivorous pet budgie? Throw in the
Missterious case of Military Inspector
Roger Reare, some missing nuclear
bombs, and a girl with rather
idiosyncratic ideas about social
reform, and the result is a tour de force
de comedie that will have you gasping
for air between fits of laughter.
-- Dom Passantino (lifetimepilingu...), May 11th, 2004 6:17 PM.

This is being performed at Cambridge. The people behind this play will be running the country in ten years.
-- Dom Passantino (lifetimepilingu...), May 11th, 2004 6:18 PM.

That sounds suitably kooky. To think some of Monty Python went to Cambridge. As to wearing stuff proclaiming you as a Drama student, it's probably not such a good idea in Glasgow. But I went to St. Andrews too, (as well as living there) and have remained blissfully unaware of drama students...
-- Kevin Gilchrist (KevinGil14...), May 11th, 2004 6:22 PM.

sorry, that was some really bad grammar...

I eventually just gave up on overtime and went home - my brane couldn't stand anymore!

smee (smee), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 09:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a yearning once, as a kid, to do drama.

I stood in a queue for "Soap Idol" with 2000 other people, 94% of which were precocious Drama students. So I'm glad I didn't.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 09:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd just like to take this opportunity to state that Roger Reare is the best name EVAH.

not DanPerry, honest (trayce), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 09:43 (twenty-two years ago)

[mumble]i was a drama student[/mumble]

however not a poncey actor, but an even poncier PERFORMANCE ART STUDENT, no show tunes for me, just hours of making up reasons for what we were doing...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 09:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh sweet jesus they just started up again! Tell me suitable abuse to shout at them!!!

smee (smee), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 10:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Tell them Stephen Berkoff is just around the corner and will rip off their genitalia with his teeth if they continue.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 10:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks Liz - I swear there has to be a law somewhere that says I don't have to put up with this at my place of work!!!! It's enough to drive youto drink.....

smee (smee), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 10:24 (twenty-two years ago)

One way to REALLY piss off drama students.

Call them 'dance students'. Then run away...

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 10:30 (twenty-two years ago)

But if I piss them off they might sing louder, or tell all their drama student friends to rehearse outside my window.....

smee (smee), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 10:34 (twenty-two years ago)

No, if you piss them off, they sit with their backs against the wall with their arms folded and go Humpf.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 10:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Drama students are small-time offenders compared to STUDENT COMEDIANS.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 10:40 (twenty-two years ago)

(or they did in my improvisation piece) xpost comedy timing now lost, fuck it...

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 10:40 (twenty-two years ago)

fuck that, student politicians are the worst.

NO I'M NOT VOTING, AND THE FACT YOU'RE GIVING OUT LOLLYPOPS IS WHY. YES I WILL HAVE A LOLLYPOP.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 10:41 (twenty-two years ago)

One of my friends at university slept with our year's best-known student actor type. He insisted on reading Shelly poems to her for hours. She shouldn't have shared this information, we too the piss for ever.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Shelly poems? If only this lot stuck to poetry....

I should mention that I work in what is prolly best described as Glasgow's answer to Fame and they are all mentalists, every last one - this means we have Drama Students, CTP students, Music Students the whole shebang! And my office is where all these worlds collide!!!

smee (smee), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 13:03 (twenty-two years ago)

The drama kids were the cool kids in my high school. It was so frustrating, they were impenetrable! If they had been jocks one could just be like "ha, he's popular, but, you know, he's a jock, *DURRR*", but instead they were all flawless and beautiful and funny and effortlessly social and actually really nice. The bastards.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Friday, 14 May 2004 08:52 (twenty-two years ago)

All drama students doing their own play ever will find an excuse to have a swordfight in it.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Friday, 14 May 2004 08:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Just be glad they're not singing Rent.

Prude (Prude), Friday, 14 May 2004 09:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Prude, I challenge you to spend one hour listening to this Chitty Chittyy Bang Bang crap and see if you still think that way....

smee (smee), Friday, 14 May 2004 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, I'm sure it's worse. It just reminded me of doing community theater during the summer of '97 and hearing "Take Me or Leave Me" being screeched out of the women's dressing room before every show.

Prude (Prude), Friday, 14 May 2004 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Good drugs, loose morals, crazy friends....I can't say that I could bear to hang out with them for extended periods of time but I certainly slept with them on occasion.

Michael White (Hereward), Friday, 14 May 2004 17:46 (twenty-two years ago)

...we too the piss for ever.

This typo is great.

One of my best friends from my teenage years went on to become a drama student, although he's not an actor, but a playwright. The university's drama department threw phenomenal parties.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 14 May 2004 17:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Theatre student cliques are hands-down the most annoying groups of people in the world.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 14 May 2004 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah Lawrence was filled with a cadre of two-annoying-girls-to-one-arch-gayboy blowsy drama types who liked nothing more than to sit on their single beds in a huddle, singing along to the OST of Les Miz. Ack.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 14 May 2004 18:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Drama students are basically non-depressed Goths. This is why they should be terminated.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 14 May 2004 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha! That sounds horrid, Suzy. And familiar.

Prude (Prude), Friday, 14 May 2004 20:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha! I did drama. It was a good way to sleep with insecure women.

Matt (Matt), Friday, 14 May 2004 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Matt,

What were we thinking?

Michael White (Hereward), Friday, 14 May 2004 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

why don't i get to do that, suzy! i've only found one person to sing musical songs with and we only have one in common (pippin). sigh.

i really like drama students until they start pulling their superior-but-also-so-delicate shit. and the guys don't really do that.

Maria (Maria), Friday, 14 May 2004 23:11 (twenty-two years ago)

seven years pass...

I pretty much can't stand these ppl, sorry

Jung Danjah (admrl), Friday, 19 August 2011 18:06 (fourteen years ago)

Why?

mmmm, Friday, 19 August 2011 18:20 (fourteen years ago)

one year passes...
