Blatant plug (sorry if this is terrible form):
RoTa, Rough Trade's ever-popular FREE Saturday afternoon bands/DJs thing at Notting Hill Arts Club (on Notting Hill Gate next to HSBC), plays host to several fun things tomorrow.
Playing live will be Oxford weirdos Eeebleee, Brighton acoustica chaps Lucky Jim, and, er, Grand National (dunno where they're from but they sound a bit like Tears For Fears as far as I can tell).
And DJing between 4 and 5pm will be, er, me. Expect lots of Magnetic Fields, Lali Puna, McCarthy, Electrelane and suchlike.
Come one, come all, drink cheap beer (on special all afternoon) and eat cakes (it's somebody's birthday so I'm told).

haha I've left this way too late haven't I? And on the wrong feckin' board, no doubt. Feh.

I might well be a long, if anyone else I know is going.

I wish I could be there. eeebleee are great. and they haven't played live for ages.
I've always meant to go to one of these ROTA things.. maybe over the summer.

I was there last week and had a great time. Knocking back bottles of red wine and sinking into one of those humongous sofa chairs is pure bliss.

ROTA's great, Jellybean, but I don't go nearly enough. The Snotting Hill Arts Club is a funny ol' venue (and they sell cheap Turkish beer called TROY).
I won't be able to make this unfortunately, as I'm not leaving Oxford until 6.30 and will go straight to the blue posts.

Yeah, I know. And it's right on the bus route from Oxford.
I guess I'm just too lazy, and on the saturdays when I'm down in London, the lineup usually is shit. (There was some rock label gig on the weekend when I was down for Kraftwerk)

I've just remembered that the first band I ever saw at ROTA was Kate's.

says
here that Rough Trade also have live bands on at Neal's Yard, which I find hard to believe as its so tiny. Mind you, *finding* Neal's Yard is hard enough...I must've done about five circuits of Covent Garden the last time I went there before finally locating it. Pretty slow circuits, too, as it was heaving with tourists, as always.
