Working for Yourself

Decided to start my own publishing biz and 2 months later I’m working 16 hour days for no money, got $10k debts, and no time to read or post to this bitch. But it’s good. Or rather, goodish. What are all your thoughts on entrepreneurship vs. working-for-the-weekend jobs?

First mag on shelves Monday. (Front cover printed dark so 1/2 cover text is illegible. FuXor!)

Pluses include freedom to work from home (which suits me), working the hours I choose (in theory), and no one telling me what to do (hurrah!). Biggest negative is can’t sit at work doing nothing and get paid for it.

It sounds both great and horrific. If it turns into a consistent success, the sense of satisfaction will be the best thing ever. And even if it doesn't work out (though I'm sure it will), you'll have learnt so much that otherwise might have passed you buy.

I believe the term is "classic".

Great, just what I wanted to hear. I'm starting on Monday. Yeah, too bad about doing fuck-all and getting paid, still now I can actually write more stuff on things I like. :)

Being yr own boss etc. = classic. Being other people's boss = dud. I presume it's not just you working on this mag AP? 'Cos from my (limited) experience there's nothing worse than being responsible for other people's livelihoods. Plus there's all the hassle of running a business - investors, tax, insurance, office space/equipment, publicity, budgets, 'strategy', training etc. etc. - that actually draws you away from the attractive things abt working for yourself - freedom of 'expression', doing what you want to do and when, and so on. I think I'd rather let some other poor sap have the headache.

Oh, best of luck btw.

No employees at this point, tho will have to get ad sales people on commission. I have a partner through whose other company we’ll run the financials. Actual editing/designing of mag all down to me.

Mag itself is p0rn0. Text contains one fuXOr, one mang, one botard, one pfff, several hurrahs, and some proof by science (cf. has ILE influenced yr vocab thread). Oddly, I completely forgot cockfarmer. And gripper.
