the name "lady die" is a name i adore, but i feel its gettin worn out. tonight i am at the pub discussing my friend trinity's top with lurex in it, i am a big fan of lurex, i have many lurex-encrusted frocks. but anyway, i told her that freddie mercury's stage name prior to "freddy mercury" was "larry lurex". divine! then the idea suddenly dawned on me...in honour of freddie, and cos i lurve lurex, my stage name should be "lucy lurex". what do you all think? is lucy lurex a good stage name?

and, what are your stage names? or, if you don't have a stage name, what would yours be? or, if you completely hate the concept of stage names, voice your disgust. etc

yes i do. i play guitar and do backing vocals (and very occasionally i sing lead) in a band called LD50. we are evil.

what is the significance of "DJ Escher", Alan? oh, and to everyone, what is the significance of your stage name, if it is not immediately obvious?

I do not have a rock star name but I do have a pop star name. It is Tokyo Rosemary. My best friend's pop name is Axis Sally.

when i am DJing my DJ name is DJ Kit Kat. when i am being a rock star i'm just plain old Katie, but i do occasionally bellow BASS MONSTER!! of something of that ilk. i am also in the process of starting another band and may well insist on rockstar names for that (we'll be a Sparkly Guitar band - hurrah!!)

don't like Lucy Lurex though, it sounds a bit Heavy Metal to me, like Sally SPandex (unless that's what you were aiming for in which case it is admirable!)

it's a half-crap gag, as the artist is MC Escher. you see MC, DJ. heh

Hi Di(e)

If you change your rockstar name, will you have to change your band name from LD50 (the Lady Die 50?) to reflect this change?

Call yourself Fat Bottomed Girl.

I was in a spoof Jazz band called The Vermillion Bidet Selective. My nom d'etage was Les the Moroccan Hustler. I played alongside the legendary Larry Spoons, Oral Practice, Sly Molasses and Joey KYWD Forty. Bearing in mind this was before The Fast Show and Jazz Club I think we did quite well.

Nowadays, if ever required, I am the Little Blond DJ. But it's a pretty bollocks name.

My DJ name is DJ Merde Il Pleut, after the umbrellas advertised in the back of Private Eye.

Katie, is TP album out Monday?

Isn't MC Escher a Momus song?

My last name (Kawasaki) isn't (yet) my real name, although as it's been in use for about three years it may as well be, and I do intend to change it legally... My side project pseudonym is 'The Collected Works Of...' but that doesn't exactly work as an everyday first name.

Our bass player's DJ name is DJ Roadbuilder for some reason, and Steve.n's pseudonym is 'Ner, I'm a spaz'. Or it might as well be...

My stage name was always going to be Dexter Arrogant. Then I took this odd detour into classical music and it really didn't seem appropriate, which of course means that I need to have my name changed in the next program I appear in.

'Armitage Shanks'. Have always used 'Andrew Shanks' for the REALLY bad freelance stuff.

My black metal rock star name anagram: RATH NUNBARREN!

I think "Lady Die" is an awesome roxtar name, and U should keep it.

Norman Phay, Friday, 2 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Is this an appropriate moment to mention what a class track title "Brain Full Of Escher" (by the somewhat less brilliantly named Gavin) is? The track itself isn't quite as ace, but it does feature Mark E Smith mumbling about internal organs, which is always nice.

Rebecca, Friday, 2 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hey will, LD50 doesn't stand for the Lady Die 50, it stand for Lethal Dosage 50%. (actual scientific term care of our chem-girl-drummer vsepert).

di, Friday, 2 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

thanx norman! i have decided in my sobriety to use both roxtar names. maybe "lucy lurex" will be the inevitable "solo project"

di, Friday, 2 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, I was thinking about having Lipstick loveit as my rock name, but you know it does sound a little r21. Punters would expect to see me straddle the guitar rather than smash it.

I shall have to go back to the drawing board
