In 1994 (as envisioned in 1980), the world has become enslaved to the hedonistic disco music of the BIM corporation, supervised by the demonic Mr. Boogaloo (Vladek Sheybal of Red Dawn). When an Adam & Eve-ish folksinger duo arrive on the scene, he attempts to seduce them with sex, success and excess. Will he succeed? Will you be able to keep your wits as you watch this jaw-dropping future-disco-biblical-glitter musical? Infamous Cannon Films mogul Menahem Golan's glitzy directorial outing returns to shock a new generation. Just how rotten-to-the-core is The Apple? Check out these reviews from The Unknown Movies and Cold Fusion!

Lastly, the American Cinemateque is going to be showing The Apple along with Can't Stop The Music on July 31 at the Egyptian. FAP anyone?
This sounds urgent and key.

Good because based on seeing this last night I NEED THIS NOW.
What Elvis said above. Truly astonishing. The two things lingering with me the most:
* An Israeli writes and directs a film that is not only a Judeo-Christian allegory but specifically concludes with Christian eschatology -- with fascist/glitter uniforms and songs and all -- and films it in Berlin.
* That Noel Coward reggae song Mr. Boogalow sings halfway through. "It's hard to be a master...MASTER!"
It also contains the most specifically literal lyrics=image thing I've noticed since the cover of Boy in the Corner -- hero: "My back's against the wall!" he sings, back to the wall -- as well as the most ultimate deus ex machina ever.

It's a natural, natural, natural desire. Meet an actual, actual, actual vampire. Let the apple set your soul on fire, fire, fire, fire.
You'll be hypnotized, And you'll be demonized, But you'll be paralyzed, So you can victimize. You're facinating, captivating, losing your mind When we cast the apple light on you.
Holy apple Sacred apple Take a little chance, Get into a trance, And join me in the apple dance.

I am SO GLAD I couldn't sleep tonight because this is on the FOX Movie Channel right now and it's the most wonderful horrible thing I've ever seen. I wouldn't call it "disco"; the poppier moments are MOR '80s soft-rock, with lyrics by someone who evidently has no experience (or business) writing lyrics. There's absolutely no flow-through between the dialogue and the musical numbers; the songs start randomly and with no build-up, and the dialogue and acting are too deadpan to justify the melodramatic music (there's that one comedic song about "huffing and puffing," but it's so cringe-inducingly awkward I don't even wanna think about it).
There's a pirate anthem called "We Are the Pirates." It goes "we are the pirates/we are the pirates."
There's a pirate pizza fight with a tender love scene in the middle of the fray. In what looks to be a school auditorium.
Astonishing.

Just saw this for the first time last night. In-fucking-credible. "It's a natural, natural, natural desire. To meet an actual, actual, actual vampire!"
"These are the children of the sixties, commonly known as 'hippies'."
Holy shit the "I'm Coming" song.
