What was the question again?

Josh, Friday, 2 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think the question was more about what frightens you.

I have no problem with religion particularly, I just am not very religious. I would imagine I am in a similar boat to alot of my friends in that I believe that god exists but as a typical teenager I don't want or need him at the moment. It's like the relationship I have with my parents, I know everything right now. I sound like one of those ads against speeding for young males. YOU'RE NOT BULLETPROOF. Er I'm rambling now.

fanatics are scary, they are the only ones who can actually be arsed doing anything for a cause. the inordinate capacity of human beings for self adornment also frightens me

so this is basically cross-promotion for dude's pop psych book:

The theory is based on his overall theory of human motivation, which he calls sensitivity theory. Sensitivity theory is explained in his 2000 book Who Am I? The 16 Basic Desires that Motivate Our Action and Define Our Personalities (Tarcher Putnam).

Reiss said that each of the 16 basic desires outlined in the book influence the psychological appeal of religious behavior. The desires are power, independence, curiosity, acceptance, order, saving, honor, idealism, social contact, family, status, vengeance, romance, eating, physical exercise, and tranquility.

it's funny that "fear" isn't a motivating factor, in either religious belief or other aspects of people's lives. nor the hornies neither. no one's horny for god.
