Sarah (starry), Friday, 28 May 2004 08:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Sarah (starry), Friday, 28 May 2004 08:57 (twenty-one years ago)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 28 May 2004 08:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Yay payday! May went on for evah! Congrats starry, may be weekend spending be fruitful!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 28 May 2004 08:59 (twenty-one years ago)

The annoying this is that I have my own lunch to eat today! Way not to push the boat out!

Sarah (starry), Friday, 28 May 2004 09:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I am going to buy TROUSERS and CARDIGANS and get a HAIRCUT!!!

Sarah (starry), Friday, 28 May 2004 09:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I went and spend £60 on records and then got pissed and went dancing. I have not been quite so extravagant on paydays since.

For instance, I was paid yesterday. I hobbled to the station, went home on my own and had a frozen pizza and two cans of lager on my own. Joy.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 28 May 2004 09:08 (twenty-one years ago)

oh god, you poor poor petal...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 28 May 2004 09:10 (twenty-one years ago)

i only had one can :(((

ken c (ken c), Friday, 28 May 2004 09:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I then fell asleep in my darkened infested room and awoke with rats knawing at me. Are you giving me real sympathy yet? ;)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 28 May 2004 09:11 (twenty-one years ago)

For instance, I was paid yesterday. I hobbled to the station, went home on my own and had a frozen pizza and two cans of lager on my own. Joy.

That's a Smiths lyric, isn't it?

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 28 May 2004 09:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I had rather a lot to drink yesterday.

And nothing to eat because I hadn't been paid!

Today I feel in desperate need of a sossidge sandwich, but seeing as it's 11.11 (cor) I should hold off for my blooming pasta.

I might buy a MAGAZINE!

Sarah (starry), Friday, 28 May 2004 09:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Mmmmmmm payday. I too had my first proper payday a couple of months ago. I don't think it had that much of an impact because I am good at living within my means anyway. God I'm boring.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 28 May 2004 09:14 (twenty-one years ago)

on my first payday I think I got willy wonkered at The Shepherd's in highgate. and possibly bashed the pegg.

and also may have bought a sony playstation 2. or i may have actually done nothing i can't remember!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 28 May 2004 09:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe... Cosmo! Or perhaps Glamour wot fits in my (non-existent) handbag!

I want to buy lots of wine to celebrate Big Brother tonight but right now the thought of booze is making me feel rather unwell...

Sarah (starry), Friday, 28 May 2004 09:14 (twenty-one years ago)

but can you live within your mode??? xxxpost

ken c (ken c), Friday, 28 May 2004 09:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahah I read that as "pashed" the Pegg and thought Ken had taken a turn to the gay.

Wow! A PS2! I could buy a PS2!!

Actually I might go to CEX at lunch and see if I can get Pokemon Stadium for the N64.

HEY, I could buy my OWN N64!!

Sarah (starry), Friday, 28 May 2004 09:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Starry - BUY A HANDBAG so you can put your Glamour in it!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 28 May 2004 09:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Payday Is The Best Day

Oh how i long for the last working day of the month
That's when i get paid
I get my money out all in one go
So i can roll around in what i've made
I spend my money fast before it all runs out
I've no idea where it all goes
But while it's there i'll get a chinese takeaway
Some records some books and some clothes

Because payday is the best day of all
It's the best day of all
It's the best day of all
It's like a three day festival

All of my friends seem to bank with the Co-op
But i prefer to stick with Barclays
I like a bank that doesn't hide the fact
That they're a bunch of money-grubbing bloody nazi's
When i was a student they gave me the hassle
Because i never ever had no bread
But now they kiss my derriere because they're well aware
That every month i'll be back in the red

Because payday is the best day of all
It's the best day of all
It's the best day of all
It's like a three day festival

I know it's not efficient, I know I should be thinking of the future
I know I should save
But what's the point of that when We could all be dead tomorrow
You can't take a TESSA to the grave
I'd rather have a week of decadence, two weeks of being all right
And then put up with week of pain
Because if you spread your cash across the course of the month
You miss out on the joys of Payday

Because payday is the best day of all
It's the best day of all
It's the best day of all
It's like a three day festival

Spend when you can
When you can't get your card and flex it.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 28 May 2004 09:16 (twenty-one years ago)

MDC what a sterling idea. I have no idea what type of bag to get. There are so many options! Coo! I want to buy lots of lovely tights and knee highs from Topshop too.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 28 May 2004 09:17 (twenty-one years ago)

HANDBAG! The essence of being grownup, *sigh*.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 28 May 2004 09:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been humming that song to myself all day! Steve - did you go last night?

Sarah (starry), Friday, 28 May 2004 09:18 (twenty-one years ago)

oh god, you poor poor petal...
-- CarsmileSteve (carsmilestev...), May 28th, 2004.

You're fired.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 28 May 2004 09:21 (twenty-one years ago)

quit harshing our buzz.

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 28 May 2004 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)

have you been listening to bill heine in your lunch break again?

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 28 May 2004 11:35 (twenty-one years ago)

What did you do on your FIRST EVER REAL ACTUAL MONTHLY PAYDAY?

First ever MONTHLY payday... Mine must've been sometime in early October '83, I gather.
That monthly payment was ridiculously miserable, that much I remember for sure, huh.
As for what I did with it... Prolly bought a can of peas and a coupla beers, maybe went to see a theatre performance. As was my wont back then, haha.

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Friday, 28 May 2004 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I've just inadvertently celebrated pay day by spending £28 in brindisa. Oops!

Vicky (Vicky), Friday, 28 May 2004 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

are you referring to the Spanish food shop whose name is derived from the Spanish word ‘Brindis’, meaning ‘to raise your glass’ or ‘make a toast’?

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 28 May 2004 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

indeed. I managed to spend £13 on 25og of serano

Vicky (Vicky), Friday, 28 May 2004 11:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I bought a CD and a graphic novel every week for my first year of gainful employment. After 8 years in college, I felt I had some ground to make up.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 28 May 2004 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I am going to buy this, like RIGHT NOW!

Sarah (starry), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought that would a babylon-5 themed scrabble game.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Ewwwwww Andrew!

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:16 (twenty-one years ago)

You have sullied PAYDAY.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:16 (twenty-one years ago)

How dare you suggest bring the wonder that is scrabble into disrepute by linking it with the nadir of shite telly that was Babylon 5!

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, I would need to get one of those disk things that knocks out the regional stuff as I'm R2 only (that's the European one, innit?) - does anybody know anything about those?

Sarah (starry), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:19 (twenty-one years ago)

i didn't go to MJ last nite, sounds like it was a good one though.

that is possibly the best PCGM story i've seen in a while, by the way :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you play DVDs on playstation or wot? With normal DVD players you can enter a code to make it international innit.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Hm?! Isn't that IF it's multi-region already? I do believe mine states somewhere it's R2 only, but I'll check the details at 'home though.

PCGM?!

Sarah (starry), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:23 (twenty-one years ago)

No dude, all DVD players are originally multiregion. It's like babies - they're all female until some of them are male, ja?

http://www.dvdcodes.net/

On the other hand, if it's Sony you're probably buggered.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Type your player number into this database and you may well find it's hackable from the handset. If not, I used these people for my two players that couldn't be done through the remote and they were very good.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

P(olitical) C(orrectness) G(one) M(ad) as mentioned in marcellos' link.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:33 (twenty-one years ago)

My payday's the 25th, but after paying for Glasto tickets, rent and ¼ of a car (ooh and a ticket to Ash in Hammersmith on Sunday!) that now feels like a very long time ago...

Simon (né flameproof) (Flameproof), Friday, 28 May 2004 13:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Babylon 5 was brilliant, U R ALL GAY.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 28 May 2004 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

BURN THE FARRELL AND HIS HAIR REMNANT

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 28 May 2004 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Congrats, Sarah!

I have a weekly payday, so today is payday for me once again. :-D

I will pay some bills!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 28 May 2004 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

BURN THE FARRELL AND HIS HAIR REMNANT

hair remnant = wick, obv.

My first ever monthly paycheck was so long ago, I can't remember what I spent it on. Possibly I was quite frugal. I was paid a pittance in those days.

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 28 May 2004 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Jesus, electric bill has now whacked up to 489 quid!!

I am buying nowt.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 28 May 2004 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

489 QUID?! WTF?!!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 28 May 2004 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

What are you doing, heating your house with 50 toasters or something?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 28 May 2004 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe THE BEAST requires the equivalent power of 50 toasters.

robster (robster), Friday, 28 May 2004 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

£489!? Are the Police investigating the power usage spike in your house?

Tim (Tim), Friday, 28 May 2004 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

What's that for, a month, a year? Do you only get bills every decade in your neck of the woods?

Simon (né flameproof) (Flameproof), Friday, 28 May 2004 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

that is five time what our combined gas and leccy bills were for last quarter...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 28 May 2004 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

That's since 27 September 2003...

"estimated reading" there, marvellous. I believe the landlords took a meter reading when we moved in though so I'll be badgering them about that pretty darn sharpish.

We have entirely electric heating and hobs and that though so... but still!!

Sarah (starry), Friday, 28 May 2004 13:59 (twenty-one years ago)

That's really mental Starry - that's probably for the entire building or summat. Scaaaaaaam.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 28 May 2004 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

so they estimated you used 500 quids worth of leccy? what side businesses were the previous tennents running!?

Simon (né flameproof) (Flameproof), Friday, 28 May 2004 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

With my first paycheck ever I blew it all on records the first night. I just got paid yesterday, but I still haven't deposited my paycheck from two weeks ago. So it wasn't that special.

mandee, Friday, 28 May 2004 14:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Starry & Lixi's house's previous tenant = Baron Frankenstein.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 28 May 2004 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

got paid by cheque this month. which is kind of old fashioned and also means it'll be another week until it's cleared because it's a bank holiday weekend.

(£15 a month lecky bill generally but that is only 1 of me)

koogs (koogs), Friday, 28 May 2004 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I got my first ever proper pay this week too but it was shite because my car broke that day and they only paid me for 2/3's of the work I did.

see ar (see ar), Friday, 28 May 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Can't remember my first day. Pay day for me seems to come in the middle of the month, I'm often taking 6 months worth of pay slips out of my bag. Are you meant to keep them?

jel -- (jel), Friday, 28 May 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

hell yes

Ed (dali), Friday, 28 May 2004 15:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I got my first paycheck last week. I bought a PS2.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 28 May 2004 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

You can't be doing it that often, jel, unless you work at lots of jobs..?

You are supposed to keep them , but after more than 10 years of keeping / losing them I've never needed one yet.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 28 May 2004 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

no, I just tend to put them in my bag and forget about them, as the money is in the account and all that. Eek, I shall try and get them organised. Just one public sector job for me.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to just throw mine away. Then, it turned out at this one job I was being overpaid every month but hadn't paid any attention to it. So then I suddenly owed my work quite a bit of money. They called me into the accounting office and said, "Oh, seems we've made a mistake. We would like a check now please.." I didn't have near enough money to pay them back (it had all been spent on bills, etc), so I had to work overtime for several months.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

gonna buy the Battlestar Galactia box set

Be sure to Loop! Loop, Loop, Loop. (ex machina), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I pay my mortgage, car payment and all other bills. paydays are no fun.

Chris 'The Velvet Bingo' V (Chris V), Friday, 28 May 2004 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

in my last job, which was at the same company I'm with now I used to get an extra allowance of one and a half grand for being Team Leader. I changed jobs on 26 April and payday is always on the last Friday of the month. A few days after I started the new job I got an email from HR saying that as I was no longer a Team Leader I was no longer entitled to the allowance and so for those last few days between starting the new job and payday they'd overpaid me £28 and was it ok if they took it off my next pay cheque! I emailed back and said "Yes, be sure to spend it wisely, mind!" To which the reply was "OK, I'll have a holiday on you!"
