I got subbed up to this hiphop mailshot thing - "Alerts". It's UNBELIEVABLY boring - sample message

Suge Knight has resumed building a mansion in the San Fernando Valley for inner city children. Construction on the house stopped when Knight went to prison in 1996 for assault. The 9,000-square-foot hilltop mansion, which sits on 1.8 acres, will have a movie theater, a pool & other accommodations, according to renovation plans.

Yeah, whatever. Most ov them (approx 2 arrive every 3 days) attain a similar level ov unmissable fascinanting-ness.

As it comes to the k-rad email addy, that I only use for ILE/ILM, I'm assuming someone went thru ILM and skimmed a bunch of addresses - did anyone alse get this? I'm assuming it isn't some dastardly revenge attax0r 'cuz of some obnoxious garbage I wrote, because

a/ I don't think I've ever contributed to a rap thread, and

b/ It doesn't seem like a very reveng-ey thing to do, like subbing someone's work addy up to a realdoll mail list, or something snarky like that.

Anyway. What I want to know is, if you sent a message to thee unsub address, did you get deluged w/SPaM? Or should I just killfile it?

xoxox

killfile. i get em too, but your theory is disproved norman because it's very well documented that i LURVE hiphop, but these are something approximating living death. i only really use my hotmail addy for il* related discourse, so it doesn't really bug me tho.

jess, Saturday, 3 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i got them too and unsubscribed

anthony, Saturday, 3 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Same here with me. I was wondering how I ended up with it!

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 3 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

moral of the story: we need to start putting deletethispart in our email addy's.

jess, Saturday, 3 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I got them, but I never got that one, that would have been better then the boring olde crap I was getting. Yo I want a mansion like that.

Mr Noodles, Saturday, 3 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the mail is full of trouble

Mike Hanle y, Saturday, 3 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You people get them too? I thought it was just me, though I had no idea how I signed up to it, it's not like I'm Mr Hip-Hop or anything. However my friend CR is Mr Hip-Hop, so these 'fascinating' bits of trivia I get from the ether I use to make it look like I know something. Ha!

DG, Saturday, 3 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

well, its better than being signed up for readers digest I suppose. i would moe info on that mogul of fine music P Diddy. all hail the master

Menelaus Darcy, Saturday, 3 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I got them too...but they went to my junk mail folder...so after a while I unsubscribed. They were more entertaining, than the usual vile spam. And, it's always nice to get e-mail.

james, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I get them but am coming to love them. What Erick Sermon bought when he went to the grocery! It's a hip-hop Hello! magazine.

Tom, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i like em so much they got into my blog!! also i thought i was one-up on ethan, insiderwise, tho this was perhaps optimistic

mark s, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Graham, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Norman Phay, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

mark s, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i get them too! but i've never read them. from now on i shall start.

gareth, Monday, 5 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I get them too - I read every one, hoping for something juicy that I can, yes, impress ethan with and... nothing. Ever. Today's was about how someone's album got pushed back to "spring 2002 because of bootlegging" - psh yeah, jay-z's album was bootlegged to fuck and he only pushed it back by a week. Hip hop album gets pushed back!! Stop the fucking presses! Has ANY hip hop record a) come out on time or b) not been bootlegged?

Tracer Hand, Monday, 5 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you all know more than me because i don't read any hiphop news online. i really don't keep up with current rap stuff very well, i usually flip through the source at the newstand and buy it only if there's an interview without someone i like, used to get some from rap city and 106 and park but now, no tv, you know. tracer's right about no rap album ever coming out on time though, christ, where's the new kool g. rap? blue rasberry's 'blunted soul'? that dj premier solo thing? fuck rap albums.

ethan, Monday, 5 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I get them too, and I love them. It means nothing to me, oh Vienna, but I'm hoping it may infiltrate my brains and I will be a reservoir of useless information...

emil.y, Monday, 5 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You guys all seem to love them, and make them sound interesting! Now I regret unsubscribing!

james, Monday, 5 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

six years pass...

still get these and they can beat my spam filters :(

This past week, the war of words between gangsta rap originator Ice-T and upstart MC Soulja Boy has sparked a firestorm of discussion on what is “acceptable” as Hip-Hop music. After a mixtape intro hit the Internet of Ice-T disparaging Soulja Boy, the young MC retaliated with a YouTube video denigrating Ice-T’s age and career. Ice responded in kind a few days ago with an apology for telling Soulja Boy to “eat a d*ck,” but maintained his stance. Today in an exclusive interview with AllHipHop.com, Ice-T explained the origins of the “beef” and ended the volatile situation with his young peer. “I’d like to clarify how all this sh*t jumped off,” Ice-T said. “I was in the recording booth doing a mixtape and the cats in there doing the promotion were f**king with me. It wasn’t meant to be evil, it was basically that Hip-Hop ‘n*gga f**k that’ stance. I didn’t expect them to use that clip to promote their mixtape. At the end of the day that’s just an old school, passionate Hip-Hopper trying to keep this thing 100. I’m not trying to disrespect Collipark or even lil homie. Bottom line is I would like to see rappers of today step their game up."
