How healthy are you? Do you feel good?

this year has been my first run in with not feeling top of game at all times, its a strange feeling, being run down for quite a while, but just carrying on as if everything normal.

the last couple weeks have been dodgy, felt much worse, in a kind of broken way, i started to have concerns it might be something serious (still, do, to an extent)

i think today, and maybe yesterday, i started to feel better than i have the last 3 weeks or so, but im still not entirely sure. i think i'll get checked over in the next week or so, when i have time.

i think its a general, everythign catching up with you, kind of thing, exacerbated by smoking (i always thought it would be drug use that got me hahaha, but no it isnt)

what about you, i'd like to hear about that too

Fit as a flea

Dadaismus (Dada), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I honestly don't know how healthy I am. The initial first flush of extremely rude health following my great booze cutdown has dissipated now and I'm left feeling a bit meh. That I've spent the last six weeks stressing about moving hasn't helped, and the lack of a decent nights sleep for almost a week isn't great either.

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 11:44 (twenty-one years ago)

i dont sleep enough, and havent for about 2 years, and my alcohol intake is quite high.

what actually happened with your alcohol thing r? how much were you drinking, and what was specific reason you had to cut down? (if not too personal)

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 11:47 (twenty-one years ago)

been wanting to get a medical for ages now. i fear diabetes and perhaps some problems of other kinds. my hearing and eyesight are fine, my allergies often decimate my sense of smell tho it endures just about. i am pretty unfit because the only exercise i get is walking around and pegging it for the bus (so must help organise another FAKA asap) but my asthma is pretty much dormant/subsided and my skin is ok tho i don't exfoliate enough. I'm not eating too good lately either. I get enough sleep just about. I've had a lame on/off cold since my USA trip and I think both my workplace (stuffy and silicon heavy) and bedroom (damp under the window) make me feel worse. but i'm ok really.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 11:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i've been eating better lately (tonight is crazy bacon meat bomb exception night). i dunno if i feel better yet. i think i'm still detoxing.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Sleep, I need more.
plus the last few days i have been feeling realy weird.

lukey (Lukey G), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 12:00 (twenty-one years ago)

G, basically gut issues (diarrhoea/rectal bleeding/all round unpleasantness) which prompted my doctor to send me for liver related bloodtests. The results from these were not good. Not at death's door, but some of my enzyme levels were 30% over what they should have been. The cutdown has pretty much sorted the gut stuff out, and I'm still waiting for the results of my three month follow up on the liver.

I don't know exactly how much I was drinking before, apart from a lot. I'm on less than 10 units a week now, and I would estimate it was at least six times that.

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 12:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Need to sleep. Weather keeps catching me out and giveing me a cold (which I would be able to fight off if I was getting more sleep)

I gained two stone last year and have been unable to shift it since.

My lower back is really starting to worry me, yesterday it felt like someone kneeing me for most of the day.

The new haircut has revealed that the psiorasis/dermatitis that used to bother my forehead has just moved around to the back of my head.

Digestion's shot.

I am convinced that the discovery of a 48 hour day will fix most of these.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Apart from the fact that I can't walk properly and its really starting to fuck me off, I feel pretty healthy most of the time, even though I'm really sure I'm not. I'm a little worried about this fledgeling gut of mine but I'm sure thats nothing that a good swim twice a week won't solve.

Otherwise, I feel okay. I'm going to choose to ignore the warning signs on this thread and just wait five years until I'm in the same nasty position as Gareth and Rick, I reckon.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Not really. Suspect I should visit a doctor about a number of things, mainly involving my hip joints and my knee and some internal thing, which i won't go into here. Also, I am going deaf. I'm pretty bad at bothering to go to the doctors, even when I really ought to. I am convinced however that all these problems would go away if only i ate decently. Bad me.

alix (alix), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm pretty stressed out, a bit depressed and then anxious about getting more depressed. I'm dealing with this by sleeping like 12 hours a day and ignoring everything else in my life, that's no good. I need to eat better too.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 12:31 (twenty-one years ago)

in the future all ilx threads will be us grousing about our poor health, just like when our grans get together.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I am suffering from the most amount of stress which is manifesting itself by horrible anxiety pangs & strange pains. Oh & not forgetting the good old migraines!
*hugs for teeny*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

You young people, with your devil may care attitude!

Old Man Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 12:33 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, it seems your issues were much worse than mine R!

i cant even really pinpoint any symptoms as such, slight heart/lung/stomach overwork more than anything. it does seem to be clearing up, slowly, though

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

perhaps it is a vitamin deficiency, those take a while to set in and a while to get rid of.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh balls, you're all fine, it's all in your heads you silly buggers you

Dadaismus (Dada), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah, that reminds me, the booze consumption had resulted in lowish vitamin B levels as well as everything else. Alcohol inhibits the body's ability to absorb it, apparently.

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

The blood on my loo paper was most definitely not in my head.

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 12:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Change your loo paper, that Izal stuff is murder

Dadaismus (Dada), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I am young I guess, and devil may care, though I do notice a massive improvement in my general health/breathing/fitness since (a)giving up smoking and (b)going running twice a week or so.

The reason I gave up smoking was partly due to the ban but I did have some related health problems I think. Occasionally (like once a week perhaps) as I attempted to go to sleep I'd find it felt as though I stopped breathing and just as I was about to drop off I'd wake up with a sharp gasp for air.

The only way to alleviate it was put my head over a basin of hot water and dry cough, I mean really dry sore hacking, for an hour. It could take ages though, sometimes, of trying and failing to sleep. Very disruptive.

I am happy to say this has gone since giving up the cigarettes, almost 3 months ago. It was horrible and quite scary.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Frisk som en fisk.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 12:57 (twenty-one years ago)

i have weird marks on my ankles, some kind of mineral/vitamin deficiency maybe

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 12:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Your shoes are too tight

Dadaismus (Dada), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 13:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I think its tiny insects living under your skin.

alix (alix), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 13:02 (twenty-one years ago)

apparently some women find that attractive

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 13:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I've found ultimately they're reluctant to go through with it.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 13:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I try to be healthy, to an extent. I tend to eat pretty well and I've been walking a lot more, so I've lost weight since I moved to Chicago. But I still feel fat most mornings. :-( Also, last night I noticed the vericose veins on my legs and ankles have gotten even worse. When I'm really old, I'm definitely going to have veins above the skin like my dad's mom did. Ick.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 13:05 (twenty-one years ago)

not sleeping enough, drinking too much, not getting enough exercise, but I'm happier than I have been in a while.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 13:06 (twenty-one years ago)

i think any problems i have had recently are primarily smoking related, which is why i have (just) given up. ive had one cigarette in in 13 days (but then, i have only been out once in that time, as resting a lot). the test comes when going out

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 13:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm in pretty good nick. Lost quite a bit of weight and feeling strong. Still drink too much and that has to stop.

Matt (Matt), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I am thinking of giving up smoking very soon. I ran out this morning and will see how easy it is for me to avoid buying a pack again for a while. I think that most of the minor health worries I have been experiencing are due to stress I was putting myself through for stupid reasons and a really incredibly poor diet (which I am still trying to fix). My metabolism is a godsend, though, I cannot complain about the shape I'm in at all.

The only long-term worries I have are those things that I see my dad having trouble with. I'm fairly sure I'm on the fast track to lower back problems and arthritis and possibly a major issue with my left shoulder - assuming I've inherited his family's immune system and general-purpose anatomical toughness I really don't think I have much to worry about until I get old enough for Alzheimer's.

TOMBOT, Wednesday, 2 June 2004 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I think we're seeing something of a recurring theme - smoking isn't good for you, who'd have thunk it?

Dadaismus (Dada), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

My solution to drinking too much so far has been to avoid bringing booze home and to stop going to happy hour. If you read old threads from around this time last year you can sort of get an idea of what my daily intake was like for a while. If my experience is any gauge, making a permanent adjustment away from that can take a long time and can really, really, really try the patience of your significant other.

A wake-up call like blood on your toilet paper or trouble with the law is a good kick-starter, probably.

TOMBOT, Wednesday, 2 June 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

strangely i was thinking of starting this exact same thread today. i have developed an odd rash underneath my arms and it itches like hell sometimes, i hate going to doctors though so will see how it develops. other than that i drink too much but i have never smoked, i am trying to cut down on drinking these days.

summary: i don't feel too healthy, i eat shite and treat my body poorly but i cycle or walk everywhere so thats got to be good for something.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 14:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Ste, in best case that's a form of prickly heat, in worst case a form of thrush.

Good sources of vitamin B are in Japanese food: sushi, miso, seaweed. Thus you have an excuse for Japanese food as if one was needed. Spinach is another good one.

Ricky T a recovering liver likes milk thistle and cranberry juice, though try to use sugar/sweetener-free, dilute or take cranberry pills. Also those who have alcohhol 'cravings' often find a magnesium supplement sorts that out.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Mmm, good stuff all. I find having a good apple, some tomatoes and some spinach each day, when possible, is a fine regular addition to yer diet.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I'm in pretty good health. I exercise every day and eat pretty good, and I rarely drink - my one vice is smoking. But it doesn't seem to affect my breathing. I haven't been sick in a long time. I didn't even get a cold this year (knock on wood). One way I can tell my health has improved is that my skin is so great lately, and my hair looks shiny and nice.

However, I am a chubbo. Goddamnit.

mandee, Wednesday, 2 June 2004 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Also if you can drink at least four big glasses of water a day, that's good too.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks suzy, how do i know whether its just prickly heat or thrush?

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

my happiness was taken away from me.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

After quitting smoking in February, feeling now quite a bit better in general.

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

If you feel rundown and there's a fungal aspect to the infection. Nice, huh?

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

i go to the gym 4x a week and walk loads, drink several gallons of water a day, and eat fairly well. on the other hand, i drink and smoke and stay out late so i'm pretty sure that i undo all of my good work. no specific health complaints at the moment, other than fatigue but that's to be expected.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh I'm petrified about my heart rate and am still thinking about joining the gym...

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I like an increased heart rate, sign that the Coca Cola is doing its job.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm feeling serious after-effects from A LOT of medication from the past 2 weeks, I acn't even think straight to evaluate my health right now.

Quitting Coca Cola was one of the best moves I've made all year.

Crickets Dance On Tequila Booty (Barima), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I had an ice cold can yesterday in my garden, it was amazing. gets the brain going without fail.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

my face has pretty much recovered from the burns i got a month ago, except for the ugly pink patches all over it. my collarbone, however, is taking a million years to heal and itches like a bastard. it's started oozing again and the bits that have healed are a deep mottled red, and a bit sore.

also since my parents went away I have been lazy and have not been eating much protein as the nurses said I should. however I have been taking vitamins every day. I keep getting headaches but I think that's because I'm not leaving the house much, sleeping in late and staying up late doing nothing.

in unrelated news, I have put on a half a stone since I graduated last june. however i do drink more water now.

kathryn m (kathryn m), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Despite clinical depression I think I'm okay (but that just might be the manic part talking)

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

This is a depressing thread.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Where do I begin? For the last two months, my muscles have felt tired and weak. Sleep never feels all that refreshing, and climbing one flight of stairs sometimes feels like a real workout for my calves. Last week, carrying my band's equipment to a radio station gig made me feel weak and dizzy for two hours. Everyone says it's just because I don't exercise (which is true: I don't), but believe me, this is markedly different. (I've suspected I might have chronic fatigue syndrome, or fibromyalgia, or something similar, but that's usually not diagnosed until after six months.) Along with the muscle weakness, my pulse is strangely high when I wake up in the morning. I get frequent headaches and neck-aches. Several weeks ago, I had what felt like a urinary-tract infection (had to pee frequently) but according to tests, it wasn't. The area, however, is still sometimes sore and orgasms are often unsatisfying. Within the last few days, I've had a couple things develop: 1. diarrhea flecked with blood and mucus and 2. small itchy red spots on my hands, arms, and feet (no more than 10 in all, and some seem to have disappeared already: are these hives?). Apart from these most recent developments, I've seen a doctor and had blood tests and nothing's shown up.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah, and I sometimes feel feverish! Okay, this thread is doing nothing to discourage my already hypochondriac tendencies.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

apparently I have either *kissing disease* or toxoplasmosis. so THAT's why I am so tired all the time. as i am extremely hypochondriac, I discovered this: my boyfriend laughs i even *inspect myself* during sleep by touching myself all over.hahahahaah

jesus nathalie (nathalie), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

i've been feeling pretty good lately...i've been going running three times a week or so, and i cut out smoking pretty much completely.

clearly i need to drink more alcohol.

geeta (geeta), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, what's the point being fit if you can't booze more.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I feel okay most of the time. Just the odd head ache or momentary feelings of nausea. I worry about stupid things, not as much I used to, but I think worrying makes me feel ill sometimes. Only one cold in the last year, not so bad on the hay fever front this summer. Have cut down on cakes, and walk a lot.
