Where are we doing this, then? Is there a decent online free one? I promise I won't meekly capitulate midway through the tournament this time.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I want in!

Pingu, Wednesday, 2 June 2004 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

there is no sign of a bbc one :( itv don't seem to have anything either, boo hiss...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 12:48 (twenty-one years ago)

If you want fantasy team stuff, dunno; I made a predictor comp (ie, predict scores, points awarded for closeness to result) in excel which I can make available for us all to have a go and someone to collate and be the boss of.

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 12:52 (twenty-one years ago)

the one I ordered? well done Boyler.

chris (chris), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 12:54 (twenty-one years ago)

i've got a predict winners spreadsheet that i've already done the fanny dangle on for work (mmm, lovely if statements) if that helps. there must be a free one somewhere though?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 12:55 (twenty-one years ago)

sounds good Dave. I mentioned maybe running a Predictions game on the Premiership Predictions thread, but if anyone else wants to do it then go for it.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes please Dave!

xpost

OleM (OleM), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Here you go...

We agree points for a win, then send your version of my super duper fantasy chart to someone* who collates the results and enters them. Select you joker for each round, and jobs a good un.

*-I fear i am too busy for me to be this someone.

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I would offer but I've got a big project on too :o(

chris (chris), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i is being fick and not quite working it out yet but i will soon i'm sure

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

oh i see, you've hidden the workings...

i suppose i could take the reigns, BUT, bare in mind i'm at the glastonbury for a weekend, but then i'm guessing almost everyone who plays will be innit.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

i won't be but....

hold on, all the predictions will be in by then, it'll just be a case of typing in the results into the master.

chris (chris), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

yes. that's what i was thinking with my one.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

As far as free FFL goes, there's this one, and all you have to do is pretend to be one of Britain's fine publicans.

Not sure if there's a super league system though - if not s'probably not worth bothering with.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 3 June 2004 12:16 (twenty-one years ago)

ha ha I get regular updates from that site (part of work) and they never said anything!!

chris (chris), Thursday, 3 June 2004 12:20 (twenty-one years ago)

hold on, I got an e-mither from realfootball or summat the other day about ff ek4, I'll check it out

chris (chris), Thursday, 3 June 2004 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Hello

The fellows at Real Football are running a fantasy Euro 2004 league, and
the site has just launched today. It's free to play, all in the name of
good clean healthy fun. The site features every player competing at Euro
2004, and there's even a bit of a prize.

The address you'll need is www.realfootball.co.uk

If you don't want to recieve any more emails from us, that's OK, because
we won't be sending any more to this mailing list. If you sign up for the
new game you can subscribe again.

Thanks - enjoy the game.

Real Football Management

chris (chris), Thursday, 3 June 2004 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I get publican emails for work purposes as well... you should get one about the FFL any... minute... now.

Realfootball might be better though - will check out shortly.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 3 June 2004 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

realfootball looks OK, private leagues etc, free, 120,000,000 europes to spend on a team, 4 subs at the knockout stage, just the job i reckon.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 3 June 2004 12:30 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, i've gone executive decision on yo asses. there is an ILX league on http://www.realfootball.co.uk the league name is ILX and the password to join is mongoose.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 3 June 2004 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm in

chris (chris), Thursday, 3 June 2004 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

chris (chris), Thursday, 3 June 2004 12:58 (twenty-one years ago)

ha ha our teams are so similar!

chris (chris), Thursday, 3 June 2004 12:59 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, i've got half an arsenal team entirely accidentally...

all my cheap players:

a. have funny names
b. are in my swaps pile at least twice

wickywicky wildwildwest...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 3 June 2004 13:04 (twenty-one years ago)

also if you are in our league your team name needs to start "AFC"

(maybe)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 3 June 2004 13:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm in. And managed to name my team after someone who didn't even make my team. Hmmm...

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 3 June 2004 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm in

Maastricht Upbringing

Jaromir Blazek
Olof Mellberg
Michael Svensson
Johan Mjällby

Dmitri Alenitchev
Deco
Jan Koller
Thierry Henry
Pauleta

come on you Swedes!

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 3 June 2004 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i was gonna call my team AFC Spagna irrespective of Carmile's Law

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 3 June 2004 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Mandrikin
Bridge
Carvalho
Carragher
Hristov
Gattuso
Beckham
Galásek
Kuranyi
van Nistelrooij
Larsson

Team Name: The Dog's Ballacks

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 3 June 2004 13:56 (twenty-one years ago)

point of order, when did it change from van nistelroy to van nistelrooij? i noticed it in the sticker book too.

ailsa clearly thinking henry will "do a world cup" and get sent off again then ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 3 June 2004 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

They appear to be going for native spelling (see Stilyan not Stilian Petrov).

Couldn't afford Henry - also don't think he'll be the star of the tournament, therefore not worth sacrificing others for. Note for a Scottish person, I am pinning some hopes on England's defence (was going to go for either Gerrar or Scholes in the hope they might bag a couple of goals, but again, couldn't afford them)

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 3 June 2004 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm in - Eau de Pires: Kahn, Bolf, Edman, Simic, Zidane, Nedved, Gerrard, Svensson, Henry, Kuranyi, Baros.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 3 June 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

i think i see an e-wing there as well...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 3 June 2004 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

How do you see the league? I can't find a link anywhere...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 3 June 2004 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorta hoping that I'll be able to catch some of the games live during my various lunch hours. We'll see.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 3 June 2004 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

go to the leaderboard and click on ilx

chris (chris), Thursday, 3 June 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

next to people's names.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 3 June 2004 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha, I'm the only person in the ILX league that hasn't got Thierry in their team. I am kind of hoping France do a World Cup 2002 as I seem to have forgotten to put any French people in my team at all.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 3 June 2004 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

you can do free transfers 'til it kicks off if you want to.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 3 June 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Does that mean I can't do any during the tournament if I do that?

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 3 June 2004 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

cabbage and i have differing Czech keepers - which is the #1?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 3 June 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

no, it's free transfers 'til it starts and then four after that before the knock out bit.

steve, i have no idea...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 3 June 2004 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it might be Cech - he's who Chelsea signed. I went for the other one tho.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Thursday, 3 June 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

See, I'm kind of thinking two defenders in the same team is shit as it doubles the points for each goal that team lets in...(but, double points for clean sheets, oh no DILEMMA oh no!)

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 3 June 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm starting to think Bulgaria will be the surprise package thus regretting my all-Swede back 3

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 3 June 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

AFC Rumpofsteelskin is in*

*sorry this isn't a haiku...

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Thursday, 3 June 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Sweden are a tough team to beat and the hardest team they've got in their group is Italy, which they will only lose 1-0 anyway.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 3 June 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Blazek
Micky Svensson
Bridge
Gallas
Deco
Gerrard
Zidane
Nedved
Van Nistelrooy

but we're all got stevie g

charltonlido (gareth), Thursday, 17 June 2004 07:47 (twenty-one years ago)

i swapped him for some magic beans

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 17 June 2004 07:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Totti banned for 3 matches. I might as well give up now.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 17 June 2004 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I got a goal (yep, Stevie G) and a clean sheet from Campbell, which is handy.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 17 June 2004 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks to big man Morientes I'm coming up behind you, Dastoor.

I've also got Morientes, so this won't really work. It's great packing your team with Group A players - you get to be ahead for a while.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 17 June 2004 21:59 (twenty-one years ago)

They haven't updated it with today's results yet, have they? The tin pot organisers are probably still down the pub.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 17 June 2004 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm still kidding on that I am going for the long game, and that my players who make it through the first stage will shine like stars for the remainder of the tournament. And that Kevin Kuranyi will score some goals.

My faith in picking Henrik over Henry is paying off so far...

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 17 June 2004 22:02 (twenty-one years ago)

wtf?!?!? why didn't zidane get at least the assist?!?!?!??!? wtf?!?!?!?!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 17 June 2004 23:47 (twenty-one years ago)

he pretty much scored that freekick himself without knobend tudor touching it

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 17 June 2004 23:47 (twenty-one years ago)

from the front page:

18/06/2004 Score updates will have to wait 'till tomorrow morning, as tonight the beer monster has struck!

marvellous, this is MY KIND of fantasy league :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 18 June 2004 07:59 (twenty-one years ago)

oooooooooh maybe i'll get points afterall!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 18 June 2004 08:02 (twenty-one years ago)

also, N is still third overall (pending last night's points), just ahead of one of chris' cow-orkers, unless i'm mistaken...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 18 June 2004 08:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck you, Dastoor

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 18 June 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck you DC just fucking fuck fuck fuck.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 18 June 2004 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

i hope larsson delivers the goods again tonite.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 18 June 2004 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I am hoping for a rampant Swedish success tonight.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 18 June 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope Sweden win the football, too.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 18 June 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Just for that, I hope they FAIL.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 18 June 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't mind as long as larsson scores five times tonight les lynam stylee

ken c (ken c), Friday, 18 June 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

des

ken c (ken c), Friday, 18 June 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope he gets past the Bulgarian defences and slips something through the goalie's legs.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 18 June 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I am so shit at football predictions. ,IN this, I'm languishing near the bottom, and in the ILX predictions league too. Bah.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 18 June 2004 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I am currently top of both leagues I'm in.

Incidentally, Robert Kilroy-Silk's 'England Till I Die' got 72(!) Torygraph points from last night.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 18 June 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

this is quite humiliating really. i did try and pick a decent team. what lessons do i learn here? not to make last minute changes as they will only backfire? not to get so enthusiastic about things i don't have a knack for? i'm doing alright in the scores predictions at least...

stevem (blueski), Friday, 18 June 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

That team has still got time to come good. Except Berbatov.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 18 June 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I think my team is being radically ruined by the tendency for all my players to be stroppy bastards (two bookings = suspension for Gattuso, unnecessary sending off = no chance for Petrov to grab a couple of redeeming goals in post-failure game). Undoing all the good work done by Zidane and Larsson for me. I had such high hopes for my lads etc etc...

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 18 June 2004 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

It's Totti's suspension that has screwed me up. Still, four players in action today, so might be some gains to be had.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 19 June 2004 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't like the looks of this.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 19 June 2004 22:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm hanging in there, just about in reach of the top (I'm 5th, 18 points off Ken, but given that my Swedes' first game was worth 37 points that isn't too much) - the substitutions will be crucial. I think I may have more players through, and more money to spend on some good subs, than Ken will, maybe.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 19 June 2004 23:01 (twenty-one years ago)

fuck you, matt DC, fuck you, dastoor

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 20 June 2004 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

first ilx team to break 100 pts!

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 20 June 2004 00:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Nedved and Van Der Vaart like to tease. bastads.

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 20 June 2004 09:06 (twenty-one years ago)

i think mine is the only team in the ilx league to feature NO goalscorers so far

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 20 June 2004 09:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I have made my substitutions for the quarters: my team is now Cech; Mellberg, Campbell, Van Bronckhorst, M Svensson; Ljungberg, Gerrard, Nedved; Henry, Baros, Larsson.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 20:05 (twenty-one years ago)

My new set of mid-table obscurities involve a lot of Czechs, and one Croatian who isn't even playing just because he was my cheapest player from the first round and I figured I might as well leave him there thereby allowing more money to buy whoever I bought. Except I can't remember who I went with in the end, and I don't know how to find out. I swapped Rooney in and out about four times...but I think I went with Henry and some ridiculously underpriced Czechs at the expense of my flops (Kuranyi, (Stilian) Petrov and Rino Gattuso).

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 21:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Also Ken appears to have catapulted himself into 2nd place overall.

I'm kind of relying on everyone having buggered off to Glasto having forgotten to make their substitutions to aid my creep up the table. That, and a storming set of results for the Czechs.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Out: Del Piero, Figo, Koller, Morientes
In: Ljungberg, Rooney, Scholes, Larsson

I wish I could change formation - I could really do with playing 4-3-3, but it won't let you change your original choice.

James Ball (James Ball), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 21:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, I was annoyed by that - I'd like to switch to 3-4-3, as defenders don't seem to score too many points.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 24 June 2004 10:21 (twenty-one years ago)

fuck. 2 of my strikers are out. fucking henry why i trade van nistelrooy for you

fucking larsson.

just hanging on with the lead now

ken c (ken c), Monday, 28 June 2004 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm - I am =4th in ILX, within a great performance in the semi and final from Baros and Nedved of catching up, maybe - but 4th is a very respectable showing, I think. I only have 4 players still in the tournament!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 28 June 2004 20:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm second but my chances of catching Ken are minimal. I only have 5 players left (4 Czechs and Stam), and one of them (Jiranek) was injured last night.
Ken's only real danger now is Michael B, I think, in 3rd place with 7 players left.

Joe Kay (feethurt), Monday, 28 June 2004 20:44 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, it all depends now how the czechs do.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 28 June 2004 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

and stevem escapes bottom place!!! spot now occupied by carsmile.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 28 June 2004 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

The master replaces the apprentice.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 28 June 2004 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

bah, I got rid of all my Dutch players 'cos I thought the Swedes would knock 'em out...

Michael B, Tuesday, 29 June 2004 07:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm kind of relying on everyone having buggered off to Glasto having forgotten to make their substitutions to aid my creep up the table. That, and a storming set of results for the Czechs.

it appears both of these things happened...

i can't believe i'm last though :( i think i may only have two players left...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 08:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I think taking the best part of a week out to go to Glasto has probably scuppered my chances on this one.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 12:11 (twenty-one years ago)

but all you had to do was make the substitutions...

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

AND HE HITS THE BIG 200!!!!

FUCK Y'ALL

mwhahaa :) with the czechs out the only way to lose the lead is for Figo to score 4 goals!!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 2 July 2004 09:06 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
(haha just thought i'd sneak this one back in since i didn't know about the existance of the euro predictions thread til it was too late :\ )

ihttp://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v323/kenjuggle/yay.jpg

woot!
