I eat BBQ about 3 times a week. Had bbq'd pork roast for the first time last night, which was mighty tasty. Recently discovered that sriracha is U&K when grilling chicken wings and ribs.

Grilled some veggie burgers and asparagus the other night, which were delicious, though somewhat gritty due to inadequate grill cleansing.

My parents sent us a BBQ for my birthday, but some parts were missing so we had to send it back. Our front patio area is looking niiiiiice at the moment though, we got some lanterns and wrought iron bistro furniture and stuff.

The problem with barbecue places around here is that they trim away the brown crusty edges so the meat will have a uniform texture. But those crusty bits taste the best! WTF? (also, they chop it up too fine) Jody, that 'cue looks great — barely touched by human hands. The slaw looks kind of manky, though.

I had 'cue at Turner Field last night when I went to the Braves game.

Uhm, in my country, having a BBQ means just that - using a BBQ outdoors to cook anything. And here we mostly do steak, sausages and seafood, In fact smoked pork and the like is reasonably rare. Seafood, red meat and things like corn or veggies are the go. With loads of sides like coleslaw, potato salad, baked potatos and of course PAVLOVA! :D

that looks amazing... but u.s. southerners would consider it grilling or cooking out. they reserve the term "barbecue" for things like pulled meat or smokehouse stuff.

or, there is such a thing as "a grill," but no such thing as "a barbecue." food that is cooked quickly on a grill is not "barbecue," which refers to food that is cooked long and slow and perhaps in a pit

(those burnt chops in my pic look horrible I might point out, I never did like the very aussie idea of charring your meat half to death. Ugh! I still like my steaks medium rare and cooked properly even on a bbq, dammit).

Well, the key thing here is slow-cooking the unprocessed meat* of some land mammal using heat generated by burning wood, rather than charcoal, and serving it with a savory, high-acid sauce. Dry spice rub optional. That's not going to stop people from quibbling about Kansas City style vs. Carolina style vs. Texas style, but it does provide a significant amount of common ground while eliminating certain obviously non-barbecue notions, such as chicken and hamburgers.

* sausages are the exception to this rule.

it is so sweet knowing a dude at the local bbq joint who works the meat slicing station--epic smoked sausages, doubling my orders of brisket & pork, free ribs, large beans for the price of a small--i love u punk rocker nate at fette sau.

seven months pass...

From the "Looks like I picked a bad week to stop sniffing glue" Department, I chose the week of the local Railroad Festival to start cutting back on my meat consumption. But at least a dozen black churches in the food court have a pig + smoke genius working their pit, so I, uh, fell off the wagon. Having some 'cue nachos from Kyle's Chapel right now, got a half slab from Victory Temple for later this evening.
