Gucci, C/D? (Moz clothing supplement)

I've always leaned toward dud: overblown, oversexy, too much... I tend to favor restraint and minimalism... but with my favorite singer's longstanding appreciation of the brand, perhaps it is time to reconsider... ? Please help me learn to love the crass poetry of excess. Spencer Chow to thread for the Gucci in L.A. perspective.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Thursday, 3 June 2004 01:12 (twenty-one years ago)

oh um that image is semi-nsfw

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Thursday, 3 June 2004 01:13 (twenty-one years ago)

whoa, how do you feel about Galliano and Cavalli then?

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 3 June 2004 01:20 (twenty-one years ago)

The think I like about Tom Ford-era Gucci is that it is very sleek. Sometimes, yeah, it's oversexy, but it's still very polished and together. I think on the scale of things, the Gucci stuff is on the more minimalist side of fashion nowadays! (although that does say something about fashion nowadays too)

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 3 June 2004 01:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Mary! Is this why you won't go to Barney's with me?

Carey (Carey), Thursday, 3 June 2004 01:24 (twenty-one years ago)

the thing I like, obv, argh. Anyway, wait, are we talking about men's or women's designs or both?

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 3 June 2004 01:25 (twenty-one years ago)

The women's stuff is out-of-control; the men's stuff is more within reason--but I may have just warmed to it by association. How sexy can men's clothing get anyway? Not very...

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 3 June 2004 01:29 (twenty-one years ago)

mary, an assortment of f. perry at loehmann's can be had for $20. That is if you go against the opinion of a certain listings person at the Voice.

Carey (Carey), Thursday, 3 June 2004 01:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooer, Morrissey wore a F. Perry shirt in the Boxers video, sigh. I've posted this before, but I still think that this is his finest fashion moment.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 3 June 2004 01:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Cross by Gucci... Now, I'm just as lapsed as the next Catholic, but something about this just seems wrong...

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 3 June 2004 01:52 (twenty-one years ago)

there are many things about that picture that are wrong.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 3 June 2004 01:56 (twenty-one years ago)

That first picture you posted has always been a favorite, Mary.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 3 June 2004 02:00 (twenty-one years ago)

It's Moz in the first flush of his LA love, or so it seems (is that indeed an early nineties photo?).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 3 June 2004 02:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, I think it is from 1991 0r 92?

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 3 June 2004 02:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Morrissey's taste in home decor is FANTASTIC.

Allyzay, Thursday, 3 June 2004 02:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Including the crucifix and everything?!

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 3 June 2004 02:21 (twenty-one years ago)

The article is from Michael Bracewell in the Observer in '99 with pics by Linder--I think it was an attempt to deflect bad publicity?

Ally, the weird thing is, he seems to treat his home like a stage set. Every time he gets photographed there he has some different huge iconographic overenlarged pictures framed and on the walls, and there are no books, records, or CDs anywhere! For someone who claims to be such a great record fan, you would think there would be something other than a Diana Dors 45...? But maybe these are just the rooms he shows the public...? I wish they showed his closet!

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 3 June 2004 02:27 (twenty-one years ago)

(Oh, the Morrissey-as-movie-star-in-a-bathrobe image, I'm not sure what year that one's from, but I think it's in front of his house? So, say '97 on...?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 3 June 2004 02:32 (twenty-one years ago)

THE CRUCIFIX IS THE CRUCIAL PART!!! If I could, I'd make my house look exactly like Morrissey's.

Allyzay, Thursday, 3 June 2004 02:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Allyzay, will you marry me?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 3 June 2004 02:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes. I think we'd have to move to Vermont, but yes.

Allyzay, Thursday, 3 June 2004 02:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha, and let's adopt this fake Huskie as well.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 3 June 2004 02:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you think he likes cats though?

Allyzay, Thursday, 3 June 2004 03:03 (twenty-one years ago)

He loves cats. But in the IOBM video he was driving around with the above doggie, but then in a later interview stated that he didn't have any pets. So perhaps the dog was just a prop?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 3 June 2004 03:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Gucci is/was the bomb. Tom Ford in the mid-late 90s was the greatest thing since YSL (and if I were a woman I'd say the greatest thing since Halston - the white dresses with the holes, come on!). Like most collections, you didn't wear an entire Gucci ensemble, that was too much. I only ever bought one suit, but I still wear it convincingly 8 years later. It's also pure sex, my kind, whatever that means. Also, Jarvis wore it. I'm actually surprised Morrissey wears it. I also own an early "G" belt, the curvy/serif kind. I f*cking love it. It took Jay-Z about 3 years to finally wear it in a video.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 3 June 2004 06:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll say more tomorrow when I'm more awake...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 3 June 2004 07:06 (twenty-one years ago)

i wear a G belt also, but i got it at george at the asda.

saza bob, Thursday, 3 June 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Gucci's terrifying summer men's casuals typified by this:

http://www.gucci.com/us/us-english/us/spring-summer-04/mens-shoes/images/ss04_sm_123871_B6600_2572-thumb_on.jpg

Why does this frighten me?

nabiscothingy, Thursday, 3 June 2004 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

That frightens me because it looks like the 10-foot-tall boot that decorates the boot emporium near my grandparents' farm, announcing to all on the Texan highway where to get yer boots at.

sgs (sgs), Thursday, 3 June 2004 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

that's a lovely photo of Bobby Moore, not an Icon I thought he'd have on his wall to be honest

chris (chris), Thursday, 3 June 2004 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

That boot is fugly, no wonder it gives you the fear. There are really only about 350 people in the world who should be wearing them.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 3 June 2004 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Now imagine a whole summer look extending upward from that boot.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 3 June 2004 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Gucci Gucci, Gucci boots of leather...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 3 June 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

If Spencer wrote about fashion, I would read him.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 3 June 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

this thread is bourge

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 3 June 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I know, isn't it great?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 3 June 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean, that is brilliant.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 3 June 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Spencer = one of maybe three guys on ILX who look natural in high-fashion suits?

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 3 June 2004 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, Spencer and...those other guys.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 3 June 2004 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Calum and Mike Hanle y.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 3 June 2004 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahaha!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 3 June 2004 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

And I thought the suit maketh the man. :(

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 3 June 2004 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

You + Gucci suit = still you in a suit. But we still love you.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 3 June 2004 17:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm done with clothing for good.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 3 June 2004 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

And the townspeople rejoiced.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 3 June 2004 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought they were lighting their torches.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 3 June 2004 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

@d@mlstein's Monster.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 3 June 2004 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

The Chiklis, no?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 3 June 2004 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

They were rejoicing over the newly discovered usability of @d@ml's clothing as fire fodder.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 3 June 2004 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Um...what is it doing?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 3 June 2004 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

It's me and Jon Williams...snuggling.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 3 June 2004 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

The thing about Gucci, maybe their clothes aren't so bad, but their advertising campaign totally turned me off. On another note, could someone explain where Moz is going with this Sunday in the park look--click on Our Day in Hyde Park. Suzy maybe?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 3 June 2004 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, the recent Terry Richardson shot campaigns were not so good, but what about...
http://perso.club-internet.fr/yangabin/lamode/marquespretaporter/gucci/pubguccihiver95.JPG

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 3 June 2004 20:15 (twenty-one years ago)

That is absolutely my favorite ad in a magazine ever, Spencer Chow I kiss you. I actually had that on my wall for at least a year because I was obsessed with emulating the hair, makeup, and shirt.

Allyzay, Thursday, 3 June 2004 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

What the hell is up with that outfit in the Hyde Park pictures?! Honestly.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 3 June 2004 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Did you emulate the face of the guy in green?

Crickets Dance On Tequila Booty (Barima), Thursday, 3 June 2004 20:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I folded the hideous men out of the photograph, actually.

Allyzay, Thursday, 3 June 2004 20:21 (twenty-one years ago)

The campaign I most hated was the super bourgie one that got all the aclaim. I think it's just a knee-jerk thing--you either like it or you don't and I don't...(Moz looks like he is going to run a Marathon in those Hyde Park pics?)

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 3 June 2004 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

(In those pictures Alain looks more like Morrissey than Morrissey does!)

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 3 June 2004 20:31 (twenty-one years ago)

was this the super bourgie one?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 3 June 2004 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Is that Scarlet J? I knew there was another reason I didn't like Gucci. No, the one from like '99 or something when it is the frosted blonde woman sitting in her living room...

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 3 June 2004 20:34 (twenty-one years ago)

that is NOT Scarlet J, I think it's Georgina Greenville...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 3 June 2004 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Scarlett J weighs about 15 pounds more and does less Special K and heroin.

Crickets Dance On Tequila Booty (Barima), Thursday, 3 June 2004 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Spencer = one of maybe three guys on ILX who look natural in high-fashion suits?

um, maybe...

kephm, Thursday, 3 June 2004 20:38 (twenty-one years ago)

i also have the big hair and an orange cat.

anyways, is moz doing a USAclub tour after perrypalooza? someone please say yes.

kephm, Thursday, 3 June 2004 20:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Scarlet J - Special K

I feel like Deborah Evans-Stickland.

Britney's breasts for Voltron (Barima), Thursday, 3 June 2004 20:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I think he will collapse after USApalooza, if he indeed makes it through, but who knows...?

Didn't Scarelt J. sign on to work with Gucci though? Or was it Channel, I can't keep track?

Spencer, do you know the ad I'm talking about it? I searched but I can't find it. I think it was Mario Testino? Blonde woman sitting in chair in gilded L.A. living room, very icy, pool in the back yard? Maybe it wasn't Gucci but Channel and I'm hating on Gucci for the wrong reasons? I think later their was a maid in one of the shots and they got called in for racism?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 3 June 2004 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Ally, you may be interested in this Gucci Living Room.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 3 June 2004 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Didn't Scarelt J. sign on to work with Gucci though?

It's Calvin Klein.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 3 June 2004 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

That room is fantastic! Not as fantastic as Morrissey's though.

Allyzay, Friday, 4 June 2004 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

(barima has given me fits of hysterics by pointing out the alien in that Gucci ad)

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 4 June 2004 01:37 (twenty-one years ago)

jed_ (jed), Friday, 4 June 2004 01:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Dan, beware the Green Men!

Crickets Dance On Tequila Booty (Barima), Friday, 4 June 2004 09:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I stumbled across the interview in which the bathrobe pic appears. You guys were right, it was from 1992, in You Magazine. I'd love to get a hold of this mag.
