London miniFAP Sat 5th June 2004 - Charlie's birthday

Not a biggie, but I'm celebrating my birthday by playing some good records with a couple of friends in a bar in Clerkenwell, this Saturday between the hours of 7pm and midnight. I'm not posting the address on here cos I'm not that daft - mail offlist for full details.

DJs include, uh, me and (hopefully, if he's remembered and is still available) Stevem, and my friend Carl whose birthday it also is, and my flatmate Jon, and occasional ILXer Huey, and maybe someone else too. Expect a daft mix of styles, all fun.

I've also secured cheap (£3) entry for whoever wants it at top Soul Jazz Records reggae/ska/funk/soul night 100% Dynamite, which is a 10-minute walk from the party, or at a slightly more orthodox dancey night at Dust which is literally 100m from our initial party venue. Yopu have to let me know asap if you're interested in either of these tho, cos I need numbers.

That's it...woo hah.

Come one, come all!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 4 June 2004 10:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooh that 100% dynamite sounds like fun. Have a great b/day Charlie!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 4 June 2004 10:18 (twenty-one years ago)

just emailed you Charlie.

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 4 June 2004 10:26 (twenty-one years ago)

there is another party, round the corner from this also, which will be going after 12, so, email/txt for details

charltonlido (gareth), Friday, 4 June 2004 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha, this is the third reminder I've received about this from various sources. Do I have a track record of forgetting or missing birthday parties lately or something? Heh heh.

Right now, I plan on going. But that may change due to other misery-amplifying events scheduled for Saturday.

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Friday, 4 June 2004 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

ha i remembered this yesterday then forgot again. totally unprepared to DJ as it stands but should be fine by tomorrow night (CDs burnt etc.)

still planning on making Gareth's pal's do as well (so maybe best i play early on eh Charles?)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 4 June 2004 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm coming, but you knew that already, bucko.
so am i to assume that this affair shuts at 11pm?

the other parties after sounds great but i've got to go home to watch channel 5 for what could be the last game of the stanley cup finals! calgary would win it! GO FLAMES! HOORAY! (yes, i realise this means nothing to you british people)

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 4 June 2004 10:58 (twenty-one years ago)

my typing sucks bum

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 4 June 2004 10:59 (twenty-one years ago)

i hate calgary. possibly more than i hate reggae. jesus, i never thought i'd have to pick between the two!

i'm coming. sounds like fun. woo!

colette (a2lette), Friday, 4 June 2004 11:01 (twenty-one years ago)

you hate reggae? dear lord...

stevem (blueski), Friday, 4 June 2004 11:03 (twenty-one years ago)

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Have a good time, all.

Crickets Dance On Tequila Booty (Barima), Friday, 4 June 2004 11:04 (twenty-one years ago)

you hate reggae? dear lord...

it's an actual physical response to dating too many dirty hippies while at the university of michigan.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 4 June 2004 11:09 (twenty-one years ago)

100% Dynamite is a great time out! Unless you hate reggae, in which case its attractions are admittedly limited.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 4 June 2004 11:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Colette and Morrissey, secret psychic twins? ;-)

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Friday, 4 June 2004 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I am now picturing Colette in that scene from Ghost World.

"you guys up for some reggae tonight?"

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 4 June 2004 11:21 (twenty-one years ago)

woo minifap. I'll be there unless my wisdom tooth continues to make my face ache.

alix (alix), Friday, 4 June 2004 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I am still recovering from the last time Charlie decided to throw a party, so maybe not. But I'd like to.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 4 June 2004 11:56 (twenty-one years ago)

You still got your crutches? I want a go on them.

alix (alix), Friday, 4 June 2004 11:57 (twenty-one years ago)

i wish i could play my ska version of 'Mad World' tomorrow night, BUT IT DOESN'T ACTUALLY EXIST :(

stevem (blueski), Friday, 4 June 2004 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

There is yet time. Come round mine with a guitar and a drum machine and we will MAKE IT SO!

Also - Ska Bo Rap.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 4 June 2004 12:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Colette do I take it that you would rather the goddamn Tampa Bay Lighthing win the Stanely Cup? They shouldn't even be in the league. THEY DON'T HAVE SNOW IN WINTER!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 4 June 2004 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Dammit, I've got an imaginary ska version of Mad World going around in my head now.

And it sounds fucking brilliant!

robster (robster), Friday, 4 June 2004 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

er, "Lightning"

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 4 June 2004 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

and calgary doesn't have a single place for vegetarians to eat, and their 'tourist information centre' is a kiosk at a stupid mall that is actually closed most of the day, even though there are signs all over town directing you in circles to find it, and their baseball team really sucks.

so, anti florida as i am, yes. i pick tampa bay. isn't there a sea world there, or something?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 4 June 2004 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

if you go to Tampa, make sure you go on yr own. Otherwise when you tell ppl about yr trip they'll think you're being crude.

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 4 June 2004 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

you hate reggae? dear lord...
it's an actual physical response to dating too many dirty hippies while at the university of michigan.

walk away, reggae

would have loved to attend but will be in a different country :(

ken c (ken c), Friday, 4 June 2004 12:40 (twenty-one years ago)

ken you can turn that frown upside down considering where you're going

stevem (blueski), Friday, 4 June 2004 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

MarkH's post confuses me

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 4 June 2004 12:48 (twenty-one years ago)

hey, nuff ice hockey thread hijacks already!

Stevem, what time d'you want to play? As discussed, you're currently on last at 111pm...but by the sounds of your ost you'd prefer, 9pm or something? Let me know asap.

Funny, the first time Colette mentioned her hatred of reggae, Ghost World popped into my head too...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 4 June 2004 13:02 (twenty-one years ago)

yeh 9 would be cool! i'm nervous just thinking about it, how lame. i think i'll play a lot of hep hop...

stevem (blueski), Friday, 4 June 2004 13:16 (twenty-one years ago)

dude, play some songs you really like in a row for an hour, that's all i ask - honestly, no pressure whatsoever from here! if people don't like it, they're fools. fucked if i'm gonna worry anyway ;-) 9pm-10pm it is, anyway.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 4 June 2004 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't remember that part of ghost world.

steve-- play only britney! you would be so popular!

colette (a2lette), Friday, 4 June 2004 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

stevem should play some hip hip

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 4 June 2004 13:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Dronerock.

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Friday, 4 June 2004 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

How come everyone knew about this already! I didn't! You all hate me!!

NB I cannot come anyway for there is a wedding reception to go to, this also means I miss out on Vic Godard, waaaa, and Charlie too, of course, hmm yeah. Perhaps I could do afterwards dancing though, especially if it's easy to get to from Green Park - where is 100% Dynorod then?

Sarah (starry), Friday, 4 June 2004 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Dynamite is at Electrowerks which is on Torrens St which is behind Angel tube - turn left out of the tube, then left again, then left again and it's basically in front of you to the right. I'll put you on the £3 list +1 darl, just in case.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 4 June 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

is THAT where Electrowerks is?! fookin ell...

stevem (blueski), Friday, 4 June 2004 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

It's the GOFF club, isn't it?

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Friday, 4 June 2004 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

it is sometimes a goff venue, yes. but isn't everywhere?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 4 June 2004 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Sure is to me. Hmmm, it'll be odd being in there (probably) not on class A's and covering my ears to hide some EBM racket...

Actually, ever since I started calling EBM "electronic belly music" I have liked it a lot more than before (ie none to "slight chuckle").

Fankoo Mr No4.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 4 June 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

i might well come to this i think. i will find out where it is from stevem of someone i guess.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 4 June 2004 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks to everyone who came along on Saturday, seemed like fun if a little flippin' busy and the usual "I'm hosting thus end the evening with the horrible feeling that I didn'#t actually have a proper conversation with anybody at all" scenario.

Still, "Cha Cha Slide" was played by me, and "Five Colours In Her Hair", and something off Cabaret, and Pulp, so all is good in the world. Particular thanks to Stevem for providing us with an exemaplary selection of tunes - I have his set on minidisc and will sell it for millions (of paperclips) at some point.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 7 June 2004 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

oh no, what about the agonising 10 second gap between 'Sister Saviour' and 'Love Is The Drug', oh no

i was dead chuffed that your last tune was Altern 8's 'Frequency' btw, completely inappropriate, yay!

stevem (blueski), Monday, 7 June 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

noticed you played 'Angel Eyes' as well, Roxy overload or wot

the guy who played between you and I was great actually (mixed his first track with my last), 'Voodoo Ray' never sounded so better to me. and he asked me about the Daft Punk/Alizee bootleg I played, dun by one-time ILX poster j0e!

stevem (blueski), Monday, 7 June 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Hm don't eat my responses ILx! Just because I haven't given you any money! CASH FOR POSTING SKANDAL yes anyway, AGAIN, sorry Charlie, I would have liked to come but there was a free bar all night and quite frankly I am amazed I made it home in one piece, especially after jumping on a bus, trying to sit down and MISSING THE SEAT chiz.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 7 June 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sorry for being such a killjoy. Hope you all continued having a good time after I left, etc.

Possibly Kate Again (kate), Monday, 7 June 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha that was my lovely flatmate Jon, who by day is Curator of Land Snails & Slugs at the Natural History museum, and by night is inimitable party jock extraordinaire DJ Pickle...good taste, that man.

BTW it's ok, I spent yesterday editing all the really embarrassing massive cock-up gaps out of my minidiscs, so it's all fairly seamless now. The bidding starts at 7 paperclips...

(xpost to stevem)

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 7 June 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

great nite Charlie, sorry I had to dash off (quite) early - was feeling a bit knackered. The got to Baker Street to get the bus home only to find it was full and I had to wait for the next one!

Thanks to all the ppl who patiently tried to help me resolve the mystery of whether the fish can see out or not!

I am now wondering (i) wot the pics I took of Colette and her IRL friends turned out like

and

(ii) whether Colette's friend T0m knows NRQ.

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 7 June 2004 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry i was on muted form. it was a good night though
