Graham, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You should own everything on this page Graham! :)

james, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ned you have become your own cliche; i salute you. ;)

as for the rest of you lot: i own a disturbing number of the albums listed. except for ronan who likes old man music.

jess, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Upsetter, the Return of Django.

thats only one, but you could listen to it ten times.

rainy, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you should own a 'casiotone for the painfully alone' single, coz they have a great name!

Ronan, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

jess, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Which one?

Ronan, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You know where you are with it.

that one.

jess, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Part of me still being in old man joke mode.

Partly cos theres a certain honesty and directness about lyrics and music in country that is not there in rockier stuff which tends to be more pretentious. Short answer to something I should really write about.

Ronan, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If you don't already have these:

Talk Talk - Spirit Of Eden; The Notorious BIG - Ready To Die; Luomo - Vocalcity; The Comsat Angels - Sleep No More; ESG - A South Bronx Story; Dom & Roland - Industry; Labradford - Mi Media Naranja; Insides - Euphoria; The Auteurs - How I Learned To Love The Bootboys; Grace Jones - Nightclubbing.

And Ian is right about that Masterstepz compilation.

Tim, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

andrew l is the only person with a list with not one record i owned. so cheers, to him.

tim: have you heard perlon's superlongevity comp.? i'm gonna write about it on ye olde blog, but its right up the kompakt alley, if you haven't.

ronan: we'll deal with your geriatric ass later.

jess, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tim: I spotted "Sub Rosa vs. Kompakt" comp yesterday, should I own it? I had a brief listen, and it didn't sound quite as intriguing as the bits I've downloaded from the "Kompakt 3" komp, despite *theoretically* drool-worthy collaborations like 'autechre vs dettinger' (or whoever the kompakt artist was).

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I'm making it a rule not to suggest music to anyone anymore, but since Talk Talk has already been mentioned, I'll second that one.

Kim, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

wherefore does this come from kim (your ban)?

jess, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hmm... well, 1)one person jumped down my throat as he was interpreting my recommendations as a blatant ploy for approval. Some small grain of truth to that but still an unpleasant and unexpected experience. 2)seem not to have a good enough feel for what other people might like based on their already known likes 3)seem to like things, recommend them, then not like them two months later and end up wishing that I hadn't represented them as my taste - not always, but happens enough 4)feel like I'm on a higher knowledge level than most people I know in person, and a much lower one here. In both cases, my recommendations end up being largely irrelevant to the person who asked 5)people rarely ask me anyway ... I guess that's about it. But it's not like I'm not all bitter about it or anything.. ;)

Kim, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

seem to like things, recommend them, then not like them two months later and end up wishing that I hadn't represented them as my taste - not always, but happens enough

you should write about music in that case. ;)

jess, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

england made me, by cath carroll, since i just quoted its great stalkersong "to close your eyes forever" on another thread: i wuv it and think it v.underrated and overlooked — it was on factory but may not be currently available

mark s, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hey, better cut that shit out or ethan is gonna come on in and yell at us to stop winking at each other.

Kim, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am in the midst of invoking the spirt of Andy Kellman to answer questions that are out of my depth, but...

Jess - listened to the Perlon compilation in the shop and fully intend to pick it up, but I am afeared of its price tag.

Mitch - I haven't heard the Subrosa vs Kompakt release, though from what I know of it, it's basically random-but-celebrated electronica artists who have distribution through Subrosa getting their mittens on Kompakt tracks and fucking them over. So the quality is likely to be high, but I imagine it's not terribly representative of Kompakt generally. The Total compilations are the safest bet in that regard.

Tim, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hmm, this is only three.

1. 20 Greatest Hits by Hank Williams

2. Kind of Blue - Miles Davis

3. Sun Sessions - Johnny Cash

Samantha, Monday, 5 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

tim - how much are we talking (australia, correct?) i picked mine up for $13.99 (amurrican), so if it's massively more (exchange rate wise), i'll pick it up for you and mail it out.

jess, Monday, 5 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think any music collection which does not contain Sticky Fingers by the Stones is not complete.

Kodanshi, Tuesday, 6 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Jess - $49 Australian (about $25 American) due to import pricing... perhaps if there is something cheap you would like from Australian shoppes we could cut a deal...

Tim, Tuesday, 6 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I haven't checked exhaustively, but everyone on this thread appears to have quoted LPs only. Bah! Bunch of rockists.

Tim, Tuesday, 6 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Brian MacDonald, Thursday, 8 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
