Because the Jets are now 4-3 (J-E-T-S Jets!), the Giants are 3-4, and the 49ers are in the toilet (which is at it should be).

Anything goes, whether or not you share my love for the game and for the Jets, whether (like me) you hate the West Coast offense, or anything else your pigskin heart desires.

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't follow it regularly anymore, but it's nice to see the Chargers get their act together again. Based on past cycles, though, next year they will be crud.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I guess the Raiders vs. Seahawks game is very soon... and part of me wants to see the new Brian fave (Seahawks) demolish the old Brian fave (Raiders). It's a weird psychological implosion issue with me, and I want to get it over with.

Brian MacDonald, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I can never understand the franchise system where they uproot a team away from one city to another city, and take a new identity - how do the fans react to losing their team.

By the way - which franchises/teams have moved in say the last 10 years.

What was the last "team" to move franchise?

DJ Martian, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the detroit lions are, of course, the class of the league, they are 0 and 6 but looking like they might win at least one game this year. at least the red wings are 12-2 though half their time will likely break a hip due to old-age. teams in the nfl that have recently relocated los angeles rams moved and became the st louis rams, the cleveland browns became the baltimore ravens(but now there is a cleveland browns again), los angleles raiders moved back and once again became the oakland raiders, st louis cardinals moved to arizona, houston oilers mover to tennessee and became the titans. i think that is it.

keith, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Er, what does hockey have to do with the NFL?

Nicole, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey, how 'bout those Bears hnuh hnuh? Actually, I hate NFL football - what am I doing in this thread?

Kerry, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hockey has nothing to do with football, but when the team you support is the worst in the league you need other distractions. also, i was once canadian.

keith, Sunday, 4 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't watch it this year cos the Bills suck. But did you see that Giants game yesterday? Unbelievable.

Ally, Monday, 5 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bears = 3 key plays in 30 seconds = two touchdowns = magic = I am turning into a true Chicago resident!

Sterling Clover, Monday, 5 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Next step, the mustache and the sausage-laden build.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 5 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Mmmm, Ditka.

I'd be more of a football fan if the regional teams (tri-state area represent, holla) weren't such unmitigated BORES. When the Pats are the best bet for good football games in your neck of the woods, those are dire straits you navigate. Worse, though, is when your roommate and best friends are (christ) GIANTS fans. Ooo, look, the ever exciting 3rd & 10 draw play. Wow, another punt - scintillating. Hey, let's kick a field goal, how about them apples? Stupid Cowboys should've kicked the crap out of them, but, of course, they're more inept than the Giants. NFC East = the Inside Schwartz of the NFL.

Next week is Bears / Packers, right? I think, because of where I'm @, that game will be pre-empted due to the bullshit regional junta. Arizona / NY Football Giants. Jake Plummer to Jason Sehorn, fumble to Michael Pittman, stripped by the ref, stumbles into the stands, gets drunk, paints face, PA system plays "Loving You", and Ron Dayne sprains his neck AGAIN. Oh, lordy. Where's my Krylon?

David Raposa, Monday, 5 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The NFL is a horribly run, communist league that punishes success. Whoever negotiates for their players' union ought to be brought up on charges for screwing the players so badly. That said, I'm a fan of the only team that seems to be playing exactly as well as they did last year (the Raiders).

Kris, Monday, 5 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The Jets are 5-3. They will probably crash and burn, as they do every year, but for now I'm savoring it (and being 1/2 game behind the Dolphins).

In Jets seasons past, the Jets-Dolphins were the only ones the fans cared about. I miss not having Dan Marino around any more, even if he whupped the Jets more than once.

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Monday, 5 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

We like to call him Tan Marino around these parts. Because of his unnaturally orange skin, you see.

Ally, Monday, 5 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What's going on with the NFC East, they used to be shit hot back in the day (ie mid 80s to early 90s) when it got half decent coverage on UK terrestrial (ah, channel 4, i still think of the nfl scores on the odd occasions i hear "holding out for a hero" by bonnie tyler...)

Also, how the EFF is jerry rice *still* playing, he must be 983457823645987334 years old!!!

carsmilesteve, Tuesday, 6 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Also, how the EFF is jerry rice *still* playing, he must be 983457823645987334 years old!!!

The "conventional wisdom" answer (i.e., what chuckleheads like Brent Mussberger and other 49er fellators would say): Because Jerry Rice is a competitor, he wouldn't let down the 49ers, he's a classic answer.

The real answer: Because he's an egotistical, selfish jackass who's been lucky to play in a chickenshit offensive scheme (hello, West Coast Offense!) where he almost never got roughed up by the defense (except when playing the Cowboys or the Packers) and because he plays for the most overhyped team in American professional sports with legions of lackeys and a propoganda outfit that would put Goebbels and Ari Fleischer to shame.

Did I mention that I detest the San Francisco 49ers, and everything they stand for? Not only Jerry Rice, but also Bill Walsh, Joe Montana, Steve Young, anyone involved in that organization. Feh!

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Tuesday, 6 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

May I respectfully refer to our blessed Seahawks' coach as an ass?

Off to buy my Trent Dilfer jersey tomorrow at the End Zone store below my work building...

Brian MacDonald, Tuesday, 6 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

How are Cleveland doing this year? Obviously I have a soft spot for them as they were named after me, but I've been neglecting it for the last couple of years. I used to play too, back in the day when it was really popular over here.

Though based on your cowboy jesus I probably have a different outcome in mind.

joygoat, Friday, 30 November 2007 01:55 (seventeen years ago)

What a cluster@#$%! nfl.com gives you 'peeks' into the live game while the commentators coyly dance around the fact that nfl's greed is somehow astonishingl WTFingly keeping this game out of the homes of 90% of the country. But it's better than nothing.

GO COWBOYS, GO JESUS

deeznuts, Friday, 30 November 2007 02:38 (seventeen years ago)

I need Romo to get off T.O.'s dick for a while and hand the ball to Barber about two dozen times.

Rock Hardy, Friday, 30 November 2007 02:40 (seventeen years ago)

he'll get his in the 2nd half. i miss fantasy fb.

wanko ergo sum, Friday, 30 November 2007 02:42 (seventeen years ago)

why is rodgers in? i'm not watching this live.

omar little, Friday, 30 November 2007 02:47 (seventeen years ago)

Favre took a shot in the throwing arm. They keep saying elbow, but it looked like forearm to me. He'll probably be back in the 2nd half, but he's hurting.

Rock Hardy, Friday, 30 November 2007 02:54 (seventeen years ago)

he ain't havin fun no more ;_;

omar little, Friday, 30 November 2007 02:54 (seventeen years ago)

oh well this will be a good game (already is). both teams are for realz.

wanko ergo sum, Friday, 30 November 2007 02:57 (seventeen years ago)

lol, Wade Phillips looks at a cue card to say "I'm Wade Phillips and you're watching the NFL Network."

Rock Hardy, Friday, 30 November 2007 03:06 (seventeen years ago)

Favre's hand is numb from hitting his elbow. He'll be back. In the meantime Rogers at least made a game of it.

Cosmo Vitelli, Friday, 30 November 2007 03:10 (seventeen years ago)

the Schef (haha) says Favre is likely out for the game.

wanko ergo sum, Friday, 30 November 2007 03:14 (seventeen years ago)

Classic NFL. Get me hyped on a big game then disappoint with injuries.

Cosmo Vitelli, Friday, 30 November 2007 03:18 (seventeen years ago)

No disappointment here - Aaron Rodgers is having fun and making plays with his feet.

rogermexico., Friday, 30 November 2007 03:21 (seventeen years ago)

Are you watching Rogers?? Amazing drive here. xp

wanko ergo sum, Friday, 30 November 2007 03:21 (seventeen years ago)

sho nuff. He's lookin' alright.

Cosmo Vitelli, Friday, 30 November 2007 03:23 (seventeen years ago)

only T.O. could do that

four years pass...

sorry if this the wrong place for this and i know i'm just a pansy screaming into the void-

re:damar hamlin

if something like this is possible all the time -and as soon as something like it happens, the majority of folks cry "CALL THE GAME IT'S NOT WORTH IT!"- then why is the game being played at all?!

i can't help but think there's a section of nfl fans out there who watch in anticipation of such things. same idea as nascar fans watching in anticipation of a crash. or mma fans hoping for a protruding bone or whatever.

then damar's charity gets donated millions of dollars in a few hours. that's great, but why does it need to come to him nearly fucking dying for it to happen? i hate this country so fucking much sometimes.

i'd rather do music and chill tf out (Austin), Tuesday, 3 January 2023 16:28 (two years ago)

I'm still waiting to see a QB throw it to himself without a deflection, like they lob it over the defender then run around them and catch it on the other side. Now that would impress me!
