This interview with the fundies is very illuminating and frightening. Bush actually is completely insane, but I do think he believes what he's saying.

Dramatic Irony, Part 1:

Q:Do you believe there is anything inherently evil in the way some practice Islam that stands in the way of the pursuit of democracy and freedom?

A:I think what we're dealing with are people—extreme, radical people—who've got a deep desire to spread an ideology that is anti-women, anti-free thought, anti- art and science, you know, that couch their language in religious terms. But that doesn't make them religious people. I think they conveniently use religion to kill.

Part 2:

The culture needs to be changed. I call it, so people can understand what I'm talking about, changing the culture from one that says, "If it feels good, do it, and if you've got a problem, blame somebody else," to a culture in which each of us understands we're responsible for the decisions we make in life. I call it the responsibility era. … I said that when I was governor of Texas. As a matter of fact, I've been saying that ever since I got into politics. This is one of the reasons I got into politics in the first place.

I was very disappointed that the title didn't read "Garth Brooks Interview in Christianity Today."

I read this a few days ago. Nothing new. If anything, he comes off as smarter, or at least more articulate (meaning they cleaned him up more?), than one would think. But I wish I knew how to read the code words.

It is one of the prayers I ask is that God's light shines through me as best as possible, no matter how opaque the window.

Someone should edit this interview better. For instance, every time Bush uses the word 'freedom', the editor should substitute what he really means: 'ownership by an ever-shrinking clique of people like me and Dick Cheney'. For example:

'I believe there's a clash of ideologies and I think—I just know—that America must be firm in our resolve and confident in our belief that [ownership by an ever-shrinking clique of people like me and Dick Cheney] is the mightiest gift to everybody in the world and that societies [owned by an ever-shrinking clique of people like me and Dick Cheney] will be peaceful societies.'

Or:

'The long-run solution to terror is [ownership by an ever-shrinking clique of people like me and Dick Cheney]. That's what we believe in America. We believe that everybody yearns to be [owned by an ever-shrinking clique of people like me and Dick Cheney] . We believe everybody can be [owned by an ever-shrinking clique of people like me and Dick Cheney].'

This would have been a much more interesting interview if it was with the burning bush.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Sunday, 6 June 2004 05:09 (twenty-one years ago)

is calling for the burning bush a terrorist act? can it be claimed under religious freedom? can we have a troupe of performance theatre students chant at the reelection rallies, burn the bush?

It could have been worse. I initially thought this was about Bush, the BAND, who had decided to go Christian, and take over for Creed.

About the only way they'd get publicity these days.
