same job appl as friend embarrassment?

I just got a job application pack emailed to me, where they mistakenly(?) put all the addresses in the CC section and I discovered a key ILEr has gone for same job.

Should I be cringing? If the ILEr is definitely smarter than me, should I withdraw? Have you ever met your best friend at the interview when you'd said you wouldn't bother applying?

This happened to me once and it was horrible, especiallly because I had teensy crush on said friend. Neither of us got the job though, so I suppose it could have been much more awkward than it was already.

Is there a third person on the accidental list that both you and your friend don't like very much? Then you could bond together against said person, and it would be a kind of good thing if either of you got the job over him/her, and would provide a safe outlet for any awkwardness, bitterness, etc. (Based on a true story).

I've been in similar situations but only found out after the fact. By that time I had other things to worry about. ;-)

Bizzarely, the 'key ILEr' is ME! I checked the mail just now and found 'Ducky Fuzz' on the cc list. Don't worry, I don't fancy the job after all, I won't be applying. Unless I change my mind again.
